Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Your Corbyn/Sultana Party - Discussion thread - Part 2

The YP starting conference is in the ACC in Liverpool between 29-30 November so only three weeks off. With competing factions involving Islamic conservatives, every variety of Marxist/Communist, former Labour members, trade union activists, entryists from SWP and SPEW, splitters from the Scottish Greens, trans activists and actual left wing feminists [not the nice kind] it is difficult to underplay how much controversy there is likely to be. So we will need a second thread in advance.

Thus far following the internal drama of the UKs newest left party has taken a whole thread. It has been a wild ride and the party still does not have a name.

Suspended from TWO parties. Quite the achievement.

Charlie mansell reporting that George Galloway is making overtures towards YP to collaborate. The GG who's very much team sexist boys club and definitely not Trans Inclusive.

Profile of Zarah Sultana on R4. Her dad enrolled in university with her so he could study with her, and she's a swiftie

Profile - Zarah Sultana - BBC Sounds

The Coventry MP who left the Labour party and launched ‘Your Party’ with Jeremy Corbyn.

I watched Gallows, which I don't do very often, and what he was saying sounded more like an elegy than an offer of collaboration. He and Corbyn are probably the last survivors of the Bennite movement, and he sounded sad at how his old friend Jeremy had been treated.

GG says he's not standing for election again, and I'm not sure what the Workers Party will do without him - certainly Chris Williamson and Craig Murray have been gravitating towards YP, and James Giles has already jumped ship to become Sultana's spokesman.

I'm not sure what Sultana would do with an influx of WPB members. She could probably tolerate the Stalinism and antisemitism, but they're also the definition of a sexist boys' club. Then again, whenever she makes a public appearance she's usually accompanied by a young man who speaks with a fake Dagenham accent while making curious hand gestures, and that is the SWP's Lewis Nielsen. So she can probably accommodate a sexist boys' club as long as they stroke her ego.

How can they now say they've suspended him now they've realised he was under police investigation when that was the reason he was suspended by the Greens? Sure they can't check all delegates but he was a speaker and was allowed a platform! They clearly arent 'talking their Safeguarding responsibilities seriously' if no one, despite being in a Left wing political party hasn't recognised him! Probably the truth is that they either couldn't care less or thought he was the victim of a ' witchhunt' as a member of ' The Most Marginalised and Persecuted group on Earth!'

No. c.800,000 registered an interest when it was first announced. c.50,000 of those paid for membership from when it was launched until now - that's the current membership number.

There was a further step to secure voting rights at their hilariously inept bunfight. You're correct that my number was low - it seems that there was a late surge in registering for online voting rights which took them to 22.5k online voters, of whom only 9.5k actually troubled to exercise that right & not on all the votes.

Then there were the lucky 2.5k sortition voters. Quite depressing when you consider that after their months of manifest incompetence, they could still find 25k political Pollyannas. A triumph of hope over experience.

RainbowBagels · 03/12/2025 20:39

How is the committee being elected? Do all the members go into the sortition or do people nominate themselves or decide they're willing to be on the committee? How do you know who to vote for?

Excellent news that Browning was suspended from YP.

Interesting stats though he made as part of the 2000 through sortation for the conference. Presumably he was selected as part of the trans section of the sortation as they were including people from various minorities.

How many people are likely to be in that group ?

From within that minority trans group who actually went surprise it turns out one is sex pest.

Looks like the thing that never happens... happened again. It seems to happen an awful lot.

He's only been suspended, not thrown out.

The Scottish Express says
"A Your Party spokesperson said: "We have suspended the member in question pending investigation, after this matter was brought to our attention. We take our safeguarding responsibilities extremely seriously.""

I wonder what the outcome of the investigation will be.

Nothing's been announced about the process yet. I would assume there must be some gathering of nominations involved, with a minimum number needed to be on the ballot, or it would be unwieldy.

As for who to vote for, I suppose candidates will release information about their background, connections and political positions on key issues. But it's also been speculated that well known heavy hitters of the left - union leaders, high profile activists etc - might end up doing it, in which case people would know about them or could find out easily enough, and they could make for an interesting CEC.

That is a lovely way of saying that it will be the usual stitch-up.

fromorbit · 04/12/2025 08:29

Count down till Adnan Hussain and Iqbal Mohamed find out that the very thing they were warning about that some trans males would be sexual predators and might target single sex spaces has happened in YP. That a trans sex pest who was celebrating their departure at the first ever YP conference has been suspended. A sex pest with a record of supporting one of the most famous "trans" rapists , Adam Graham/Isla Bryson.

Soon or before they do 5 pillars will be discussing the same thing so this is going to become even bigger. YP hounded out two Muslims because they wanted to prevent this.

Remember most news outlets are not onto the Browning scandal part of YP yet.

That in turn has potential implications for the Scottish elections as the scandal could reflect back on the Scottish Greens and the Scottish Your Party Glasgow group which was attached to Browning.

Please keep spreading the word!

What a wonderful description that is, worthy of Anthony Powell or Evelyn Waugh.

It reminded me of Tony Benn's diaries:

"Thursday 22 May

The NEC met all morning to consider the Militant Tendency members.

At 4.30 in the afternoon, Councillor Harry Smith from Liverpool Council was brought in – a short, round-faced man with curly hair and twinkling eyes – and with him was a sallow-faced man with dark hair who kept whispering in his ear.

Smith said, ‘I should introduce the man I have brought with me. His name is George Nibbs – of course, that’s only his pen-name.’ Everybody burst out laughing, he was a very amusing man, though deadly earnest in what he said. He was only being charged with membership of the Militant Tendency, not with malpractice."

I was rather surprised by his wit, lightness of touch and degree of self-awareness. But was also struck by his complete intellectual inability to understand what was happening in Labour post 83 general election. He went, in an instant, from having an uncanny ability to read the zeitgeist and understand how individuals combined together to form systems which in turn composed the mechanism of Labour, in and out of power, to being a hapless uncomprehending outsider swept along by the currents of the decade with no greater horizon than the next oncoming wave.

Crikey, that’s a sentence and a half! Ever considered taking up political/historical writing?

Militant bankrupted Liverpool Council and were forced to issue redundancy notices to thousands of workers employed by the council. They were bailed out by a private Swiss Bank. 😀

Interesting data. YP has way less members in poorer parts of the UK it seems. Would like to see the gender figures.

While sitting through my second screening of Wicked IV: Fair is foul with my 7 year old daughter, it occurred to me that on opportunity for invigorating Britain’s democrat solidarity is being missed by not nationalizing our picture houses and re-purposing corporate ‘intelectual property’ by transposing class, gender, sexualites, race, religions, body shapes and disabilities using AI. By exploiting a democratically conscious selection of mechanically generated permutations from expropriated franchises a bustling industry could be created solving at once British productivity problems, trade imbalances, class oppressions, and social solidarities.

There was a bit of a kick off at The YP conference BC that implies they favour northern Ireland staying in the UK instead of reunification with Ireland.

Also if they do set up and take members fees but back Irish reunion/ Sinn Fein they could face actions from the EHRC
