For example, the above.

Whatever people think about Elon, underestimating him is never a good idea.

I sometimes wonder how much time and money troll farms spend on MN.

SomePosters · 29/10/2025 08:29

Good grief it’s is truly astounding how effectively people will colour in the world they want to see to suit their bias.

I can’t imagine hating anyone so much that siding with trump against them would seem legitimate

SionnachRuadh · 29/10/2025 09:07

I tried it out on several subjects that are quite niche but where I have some knowledge. It's not perfect - you can tell the AI is dependent on the balance of web sources out there - but it's pretty good and shows promise.

It'll be an interesting experiment to see how using AI matches up against using (often activist) human editors. Larry Sanger and Jimmy Wales used to think that crowdproofing was a hedge against bias, but IME when it comes to certain niche subjects you can find their Wiki pages being squatted by one or two activist editors for years on end, who will revert any edits that don't conform with their viewpoint.

That's a lot of fun, especially when the critical editors get to have their say.

There's a set of people who put enormous effort over the years into gaining influence on Wikipedia, and they still don't realise that they were just taking over Ask Jeeves.

There are degrees of bias…

At least Wikipedia is a collaborative model with reliance on citations that you can link to judge how reliable they are.

Wikipedia thinks Imane Khelif is a woman. It's completely captured by people who think men can be women. The notes and comments by the ' collaborators ' in the talk section makes interesting reading. Basically one 'collaborator' has locked the entry and won't accept that there is plenty of evidence Khelif is male.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imane_Khelif

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Imane_Khelif

This person thinks they're being super clever lying about Khelif. Instead he's destroying the reputation of Wikipedia. The truth will win.

I've no particular love for Musk and no opinion about how free from bias Grokipedia is. But as ever trans rights activists are destroying everything they touch.

way too long, but this seems more accurate https://grokipedia.com/page/Imane_Khelif

Imane Khelif

Imane Khelif

Imane Khelif (born 2 May 1999) is an Algerian professional boxer competing in the welterweight division who won the gold medal in the women's 66 kg category at the 2024 Paris Olympics by defeating China's Yang Liu in the final. Born in Tiaret, Algeria,...

well actually I'd argue against that - as we don't clearly know whats going on with them, their legal sex recorded at birth is indeed female and I do not know what the procedure is, if any, when someone is recorded one sex and through genetic testing turns out they are the other sex, at a later date.

Err, you only think Wikipedia is wrong because you are. It's not as if identifying socially as a woman or man despite biological status is not a widespread accepted reality. That you disagree that it is doesn’t change this fact.

it's not widespread accepted. If you count all 8 billion humans you will get about 5% approval.

You could say the same about gay people so that's irrelevant. The fact is gender identification is broadly accepted in Western countries with discrimination laws reflecting that.

no, not discriminating them isn't even accepted (wrongly) but certainly the vast majority of the planet does not agree that humans can change sex or that social transitioning should be accepted

Definitions aren't a global popularity contest. All that's required is that meaning is accepted in social usage. That this needs to be explained is….um bizarre to say the least.

I’m looking forward to whatever AI turns out to be. It will take a few iterations for the ramifications to be clear, obviously. We now understand Wiki and its shortcomings in a way didn’t originally.

As for Musk, a flawed man who has achieved moments of greatness and moments of appallingness (if only it were a word).

The malevolence of some posters is quite something. Do they get out of the wrong side of bed or something? Maybe they are overtired and need a nap.

Just more gaslighting and narrative control from men who are under the delusion they have editorial authority over women's reality

Oh you’re right about that. He’s been spouting his usual civil war is coming in the England today. Amazing what he has time to do. . He will sit back and enjoy the plebs fighting. The billionaires don’t care about you, not one f**k given for you or anyone else. His grok thing will be programmed to their system and want everyone to be programmed the same. In other words. No Wikipedia is not a collaborative model. It pretends to be one. Once an issue is controversial, then the “collaboration“ is very carefully curated, the collaborators are chosen and the people with a different view are prevented from being contributors. I’m a wiki editor and so I know how it works. I advise you to become one on an issue that you know a lot about and take a non mainstream view upon. You will be very disappointed @Howseitgoin
