Keira Knightley laughs at the idea of boycotting JKR

You have to watch the vid to get it. That is a classic British "sorry" used as a weapon. The media are spinning this as Kiera apologising. That is a posh British women very much NOT apologising and dismissing the entire idea of doing so.

Keira’s laugh says it all. Trans extremism has peaked and no one is afraid of it any more.
https://nitter.net/KateBMwriting/status/1978111954108432753#m

Asked if she knew that “some fans are calling for a Harry Potter boycott”.

Knightley said: “I was not aware of that, no. I’m very sorry. You know, I think we’re all living in a period of time right now where we’re all going to have to figure out how to live together, aren’t we? And we’ve all got very different opinions.”

She added: “I hope that we can all find respect.”

We are winning.

I know it would be nice if all women said what we really think openly. However many women don't feel comfortable doing that. Keira has a career to think about, but we know which side she is on. Women do say what they think on Mumsnet though and in private. Fighting back includes open defiance, and not so subtle digs and many many women specialise in that.

One of the biggest attempted cancelations in history and it is suddenly no longer relevant or even happened.

It is very irritating at one level, but this is exactly how we win. The idea of cancelling women over trans stuff is a JOKE.

I just posted about this exact thing.

Her apology is ‘not accepted’ 🤣

No. That wasn't an apology about working with her!

And as inconceivable as it seems, especially given this new role, I wonder if she is fairly unaware of the controversy.

she's got young kids, she's acting, writing, etc. Very busy.

I think if she genuinely knew everything that was going on, she would've had a more prepared answer. Although her manager or agent should've known i guess.

Either way, the dismissal was effective, and her answer nice and bland.

That article is ridiculous. Such hand wringing, histrionic angst

And way, way behind the curve. The curve is in dot in the distance to that journalist.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 15/10/2025 07:53

I think this is a perfect reaction from Keira. Nicely played.

She's a proper grown up, a 40 year old married mother of two who has had a very successful acting career for over half her life, and just doesn't have time for this kind of nonsense.

I mean it could be she is very much off line and didn't notice that women were being attacked. I don't buy that though at all.

This is a live political issue which comes up a lot since 2018. She is an actress so she works in environment where these discussions are everywhere.

Moreover she has openly admitted she deeply cares about politics and cried over Brexit.

Somehow I don't think Kiera who banned Disney from her household for being too sexist actually has no thoughts about women's rights right now.

Keira previously revealed she banned her daughter Edie from watching Disney classics Cinderella and Little Mermaid because the characters are 'rescued by men'.

I think she secretly thinks that women are actually a thing.

Keira Knightley gives an insight into her politics

The actress, 39, who is starring in the new film Black Doves, opened up about her 'left-wing artistic' opinions in a candid conversation with the fashion magazine.

It looks like she was doing a promo interview for her new film - on those things everything the actors and directors say is performative, positive, politically neutral and scripted. They never say negative things, what they dislike, or what a nightmare someone/something was - because they're not there as themselves, they're being a representative of the studio / production in order to generate interest in the project (to get people to buy it / tickets).

The fact that she responded to that question with a passive aggressive British "I'm sorry but..." 'no I'm not going to disown Rowling and you need to learn to live with other people who have different opinions to you' (paraphrasing) is impressive.

If Knightly had come out with "it's all a load of bullshit and I stand for womens rights" it would be the equivalent of your estate agent making that same statement while talking about you selling your house.

It was juvenile and spiteful. It’s hard to believe that passes for journalism tbh. Anyway, good old Keira! I see she’s in good company on the new audiobook, but for some reason no one is rushing to cancel the male stars who are also signed up…

The more I re-read what she said, the more masterful I think it was.

Basically a very polite, "grow the fuck up".

Yes I agree with all of that.

And the fact that she made them change a poster advertising Pirates of the Caribbean because they 'enhanced' her boobs

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 15/10/2025 10:26

Nicely done. I have to say, if someone was ever going to unashamedly dismiss this issue, I hadn’t expected it to be Keira Knightley. I didn’t know about the Disney thing either. Good on her.

Comedy gold, and so completely self absorbed 😂

I fear I can no longer support Knightley.

Oh, I thought Keira Knightly was an actor. Did she become a football team or a charity at some point?

emboxing · 15/10/2025 10:38

The way she says "we're all going to have to figure out how to live together aren't we" sounds like the kind of tone you take when the kids are having an argument over something inconsequential.

I’m SORRY, that article is a pile of shite.

Also, how can you mistake what she actually said for a “grovelling apology”. Or any apology at all 🤣

Sorry. Not sorry

MoltenLasagne · 15/10/2025 11:19

I thought her sorry was a reflexive apology for laughing at something that clearly the interviewer thought was important but she thought was a load of tosh.

But either way, glad to see she's treating the issue with the level of seriousness it deserves...

SnoopyPajamas · 15/10/2025 14:29

Celebrities can see which way the tide is turning, especially in Britain. I imagine the fall of David Tennant rattled a few cages, and Emma Watson a few more. I'm not saying Keira has changed her opinion - she may have thought it was ridiculous all along - but it's a sign of the times that she doesn't feel the need to grovel. The trans movement hadn't caught up to this change in the zeitgeist yet. They think that she must be apologising, because that's what everyone does, isn't it? It's the default. You grovel at the altar of trans and pray for forgiveness.

We're at the stage where that old public shaming tactic is no longer effective. It's acceptable now to just feign polite befuddlement and move the conversation on.

It's what the approach should have been all along, to be honest.

Grammarnut · 15/10/2025 14:33

That's very much not an apology. Damn, I can't stand Keira Knightley and now I have to like her. Urrrrrrh😡

Edited because I don't like her so much I can't spell her name. 😡

WhatterySquash · 15/10/2025 17:13

Love it. I think when she bursts out laughing it's because she knows she just did an arsey sarcastic British "sorry", but also because the idea that she should apologise for taking a job connected to JKR is so lame. She's not laughing at the issue itself but at the stupid question. How many brilliant celebs not to mention countless other hardworking staff have worked on JKR-authored projects - it's going to be many thousands. She did well not to say "oh fuck off".

But I also get the feeling there's an element of eye-rolling and she is aware of the issues - though possibly not that specific boycott. Her face is saying "Really, you really want to push me on this? I'm not playing."

Just really, really hope she sticks to her guns because she will be put under a lot of pressure and some of it will be vicious threats and the like.

I saw this is the Guardian

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/oct/15/harry-potter-pothole-repairs-divides-opinion-in-devon-village

TRAs head will explode when they see it because it is an article about the new Harry Potter that doesn't slip in even one reference to JKR's 'controversial' views.

I'm amazed they can't see the futility of a boycott. She is more popular than ever. The new HP series will be huge. Tha latest Cormorant Strike book got great reviews. There is a new Hogwarts Legacy game on the horizon, as well as a Christmas Pig movie.

Tantrumming about an actress taking part in the audiobook of a hugely popular series just makes them look ridiculous. People are sick of this shit.

More article are coming out attacking Kiera for laughing.

The hate mob are raging, however there are now articles quoting comments backing Kiera. That is the difference from years ago.

“First Sydney Sweeney, Now Keira Knightley”: Star’s Answer To J.K. Rowling Question Sparks Fury
Others sided with the two-time Oscar nominee and said, “She has nothing to apologise for.”

“Good answer! What else would she say. It’s none of her business,” one said.

Another wrote, “Good for her! Just ignore the noise, everyone’s trying to cancel everyone. She’s right, just get along!”

“The body language says ‘nope don’t care about all that’ and I love it,” another said.

“First Sydney Sweeney, now Keira Knightley,” one said, possibly referencing headlines about Sydney Sweeney registering as a Republican voter in Florida a few months before the last election season.

https://www.aol.com/articles/keira-knightley-slammed-seemingly-laughing-161104088.html?

Hopefully Kiera stays strong and doesn't issue a lying backdown because the PR team on the Netflix movie she is promoting force her too.

However there is a reason to think she may be ok as the director of the film agrees with her.

“The Woman in Cabin 10” director Simon Stone, who was also being interviewed, chimed in with his agreement to what Knightley said.

“I think that’s right,” Stone said, per Decider. “I think that we have learned over time, unfortunately, that the unbearable voice in the room is something … I think everyone needs to recognize that they’re the unbearable voice for someone else, as well. The live and let live thing of like, ‘Oh God, your voice is really loud, and I can’t stand you.’ That’s part of our lives.”

“We all have hatred, deep hatred for someone in the universe — someone in the class,” he added. “Let’s reduce it to classroom politics. There is always the kid that we cannot stand. I think we’d all agree that we’re that kid for someone else, too. Unfortunately, all sides of the political spectrum are currently trying to shut that kid’s voice down, but they don’t realize the irony of the fact that they’re also that kid for someone else. If we can. … all have a moratorium on that, and just let chaos live for a little bit, we might find our way out.”

The eternal problem for the TRAs is this will be a massive success. They will try to start boycotts and it will do nothing, they are in the major minority on this issue, they just shout louder but with little effect.
