Well, that's crystal clear, isn't it? Even if you're a totally committed climate change campaigner, if you don't believe TWAW, the Scottish Greens don't want your vote.

And that's fine.

If the Green's wish to become a single issue party, and the issue they choose is a dying social phenomena involving kids being given harmful drugs & sold lies, you go for it Greens!

I mean, it doesn't feel like a vote winner to me, but I'm prepared for the Greens to provide that robust proof that GC views are indeed the minority as they step up to power.

IJustWantedToHelptheEnvironment · 10/09/2025 13:56

Really need to just be honest about it and rename themselves to Scottish Trans Party. It's a shame. Should be poaching voters from Reform by talking about inequality: instead trying to get trans people treated unequality as an extra special, exempt from any criticism class. I'm still fuming about them running Wadhwa.

I notice one of the Labour Edinburgh MSPs is having a climate change event. I wonder if Labour are smart enough to try and poach disaffected Greens - there are going to be a fair number of us. Will be interesting to see if Labour can make a good appeal (and yes, I think their first year has been a disaster too, but I'm hoping there a still a good number of old school lefties in Labour who can seize power at this rate). Always rated Sarah Boyack, too.

It's not even as if they have to go full GC: if they'll simply tolerate debate and concede there's some need to balance rights that would be a sustainable line I think.

Maybe Robin Harper can start running a Greens in Exile bit of Labour.

FFS they might as well change the name of the party.
How can they have lost their marbles on this so badly when they're (the Greens as a whole) the only ones who properly understand how bad the climate issues actually are.
Are they secretly Reform supporters put in place to sabotage any climate action.

Helleofabore · 10/09/2025 15:11

Blimey!

Scots should not vote Green if they do not think that trans women are women, the party’s new leadership has said ahead of next year’s Holyrood election.

Gillian Mackay and Ross Greer, the co-leaders of the Scottish Greens, said that Unionists who wanted urgent environmental action could back their party even though it supports independence.

But Ms Mackay said that not believing that trans women were women was “probably a red line for us” and it was “a matter of basic human decency.”

Mr Greer said LGBT equality was “one of our core principles” and argued that the law needed to be changed following April’s landmark Supreme Court rulingon the definition of a woman.

Thanks OP. They really have made that very very clear.

Bannedontherun · 10/09/2025 16:23

That is going to go well for them….

logiccalls · 10/09/2025 16:30

Not only Scotland: Vote Green, anywhere, only if you want this.

baggle · 10/09/2025 16:44

I note there is zero effort being made by them to try to convince potential voters of their niche belief that TWAW.

miri1985 · 10/09/2025 17:31

Based in Scotland and want to be in power, so the obvious next question to them should be is Isla Bryson a woman and what prison is most suitable?

Can you imagine Starmer or Farage having a group of people that they explicitly said they didn't want to vote for them, it wouldn't happen, they want every vote because they want to be in power. The Scottish Greens want to virtue signal and never actually govern until conditions are ideal

It's not a position one arrives at by reason or thinking, it's purely a faith-based article of dogma. It's literally impossible to change sex, and everyone knows it is, so claiming it as fact is akin to paying homage to a religious system by claiming to honour a religious belief like transubstantiation, or the virgin birth, or the magic flying donkey.

SquirrelosaurusSoShiny · 10/09/2025 17:49

Every time I think they have reached the rock bottom of the 'bottomless stupidity pit' they amaze me afresh! 😂

I don't think they want to govern or indeed save the environment. I think they want to hang out in a champagne bubble with other people like them. The fashionconscious, poor critical thinking, virtue signallers 'right sort of people'

SpiralSpiritSocks · 10/09/2025 17:54

Lynne Featherstone (Lib Dems) said something very similar a number of years ago and I haven’t voted for them since, not will I.

The door to door people always look a bit sheepish when I tell them not to waste their time.

Well that's fine by me, because they're certainly not getting it! And I hope that other people who are concerned about the environment get this message loud and clear.

Myalternate · 10/09/2025 18:06

Did they only say TRANSw and not mention transmen, Gay, Lesbian not forgetting the confused nonbinary people?

Seems homophobic to me 🤔

DuesToTheDirt · 10/09/2025 18:07

I suppose the downside of them making such a statement is that they will then claim that any voters who vote for them do actually agree that TWAW. A bit like Nicola claiming that all SNP voters wanted independence.

I've never heard any of them show concern for trans-identified women, presumably because women don't really matter, however they identify.

Absolutely! As a former Scottish Greens voter, they can go wild in the aisles and delirious with trans joy. Have at it, lads!

Unfortunately, it's a no from me, and I imagine a significant chunk of former Green voters, but keep on banging that trans drum, boys. I'm sure your vote share will go up shortly.

The Greens are helping ban greyhound racing. Last year they made animal snare traps illegal in Scotland, and failed in an attempt to ban dog shock collars. They also want non-essential workers to have the right to not have to go to work in dangerous windy weather. Just for a few examples.

I am not aware that there is any greyhound racing in Scotland to ban

A shock collar is so much crueller than a farmer shooting the dog for worrying his sheep.

If I think that the weather is too dangerous to go to work, I send an email explaining that I will take a day of holiday or request permission to work from home but I am a grown-up.

The Greens, as with the Lib Dems, do absolutely have policies that align with my values.

But both parties have drawn a hard line that my support is not welcome unless I believe TWAW.

They are entitled to draw any lines they want but they aren’t entitled to expect my vote.

I’m a left leaning, pro-independence, feminist floating voter.

And I’m politically homeless.

TheKeatingFive · 10/09/2025 19:12

I reckon this is going to work out very nicely

WandaWomblesaurusWonka · 10/09/2025 19:14

Basic human decency also means listening to women who don’t want to share their intimate spaces with biological males. Where is her decency? Where is her empathy? What makes a woman behave like this?

RNApolymerase · 10/09/2025 19:20

If I was a trans man I'd be wondering why I never got mentioned.

I used to vote Lib Dem first vote, Green second. I even gave money to Jo Swinson’s campaign. As soon as Jo betrayed women they lost my vote. I will never vote Green again. They’re absolute fruit loops.

One man with a mission to ban greyhound racing is not the same as the whole Scottish Green Party. There is no mention in that article of the Green Party taking this up as a campaign. Individuals from all parties have succeeded in getting laws changed because they were so passionate about an issue. Well done, Mark Ruskell. He's getting the Scottish government to do what the Welsh government has already already announced for Wales.
