... for having a miscarriage.

This article showcases why surrogacy is (in almost every case) horribly harmful and unethical. Jesus, this woman literally views her surrogate as an incubator, not a human.

I can barely fathom what I have just read. I am genuinely listening to for words. Surrogacy needs to be abolished.

KkkIt · 06/09/2025 11:02

The woman in this story appears to be very unwell. I fear for the girl child now in her care. It astonishes me that both the health and legal systems are encouraging her spiral rather than actually helping.

There is something profoundly rotten about a society so flagrantly driven by money rather than justice or compassion.

BettyFilous · 06/09/2025 11:34

I agree with the PP who said commissioning parent sounds very unwell. It doesn’t excuse her vindictive behaviour though. My sympathies lie with the woman who carried this pregnancy whose life has been turned upside down, along with that of their other surrogate who needed a hysterectomy. 😔

This stood out:

”Bi sees a model for surrogacy in the antiabortion laws that “recognize and protect the right of a fetal life.” The baby, she believes, should come first. Bi thinks that when doctors see surrogates go against medical advice, they should report it to the police.”

Horrific. The more I read, the more I think surrogacy should be outlawed.

That is terrifying, she needs sectioned

Absolutely - the surrogate has been horrendously mistreated and I have utmost sympathy for her. I don't think the paying parent sounded like a very nice person even before these events. I didn't mean to imply that she was the victim here.
But society is so wrong if it is set up so that if you have enough money you can use the courts and hospitals to do what you want, however irrational, misguided or vindictive.
Surrogacy is an example of that whole mentality. One of the worst.
I have the possibly wrong impression that some aspects of adoption can be like that in the US.

LemondrizzleShark · 06/09/2025 11:52

During other surrogacy which resulted in her daughter, the surrogate suffered a horrendous PPH and had an emergency hysterectomy, ended up in ICU with multi-organ failure, and almost died. Bi feels this surrogacy experience was “great” and went perfectly.

She is an absolute psychopath.

Pumpkintopf · 06/09/2025 12:11

Yes. I was unaware of the increased risk to surrogates and the power mismatch in these relationships is really troubling.

Hoardasurass · 06/09/2025 12:25

Bi is nuts.
Honestly she thought that a baby made from her own egg and her husbands sperm would be tall because the surrogate was🤯
And that's before we get onto her psychotic behaviour since the miscarriage, she belongs in a psychiatric hospital not looking for more surrogates.
I'm another one who wants surrogacy outlawed

NoBinturongsHereMate · 06/09/2025 12:51

Horrific.

FlossieF · 06/09/2025 12:53

Woah - that’s just appalling. I was dubious about surrogacy before, but that’s next level dreadful.

'American surrogacy is an enormous industry, taking in approximately $5 billion in 2024, and the practice is expected to explode globally almost tenfold in the next decade. It seems especially popular in Silicon Valley, where a growing cadre of investors and executives, from OpenAI’s Sam Altman to Dropbox’s Drew Houston, have used it to grow their <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/SssTh/www.wired.com/story/pregnancy-surrogate-your-next-job/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">families. More than a dozen big tech companies provide five-figure subsidies to any employee who needs or wants to outsource gestational labor. A shocking number of techies now believe growing a baby can be a straightforward business transaction.'

The buying and selling of babies, the renting of women's bodies, should be banned worldwide.

'Countries should move towards banning all forms of surrogacy, a new UN report has said.1
The UN’s special rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem al Salem, called for a ban on the grounds of the “exploitation and violence against women and girls” that characterises surrogacy arrangements, as well as health risks to the mother and baby.

It is absolutely horrendous. Anyone who thinks surrogacy is a good idea should read it.

ArabellaSaurus · 06/09/2025 17:03

' Anything else would be considered baby selling and human trafficking.'

Funny, that. Because that's exactly what it is.

MrsMitford3 · 06/09/2025 17:34

How absolutely horrific-that poor surrogate.

Just shines the light on the power imbalance and dubious ethical practices

Rednorth · 07/09/2025 18:12

"If I cannot protect my son, if I cannot give him honor, sue the hell out of these people, and have some sense of justice... how can the investment founders say, 'Cindy, you're the best?'"

Speaks for itself doesn't it.
