Welcome one and all - as the nights draw in, pull up a chair to the fire, and the gerbils will be along soon with hot chocolate and Tunnock’s teacakes.

Giant Wombat is indeed an admin genius and liaises with The Committee who are very clever and stern and do all the dull organisational and paperwork stuff that we don't want to do ourselves.

When the weather is suitable the quokkas make use of a system of pulleys arranged to get the clothes lines into the best positions and a trained team of martial arts gerbils sit ON the lines to repel any creepy man unwise enough to approach. If their dark-repelling dance isn't enough, they have stuff left over from the games that enable them to be launched from ground level.

AsWithGlad · 31/08/2025 18:48

Excellent, @DeanElderberry, thank you. It's very reassuring.

AsWithGlad · 31/08/2025 18:33

Good point. I may think on.

Do you see no adverts at all? I thought it was just fewer. My ad blocker is doing that job on my phone.

No adverts at all.

It's bliss.

I think they do a £2.99 a month option. Don't know if you could buy just a single month though to see how it works for you.

And the spiders do the night duty if the washing isn't dry by dusk.

But there is always complaints afterwards.

Ahem.

Google "Extreme Sheep Herding with Lights" or "Extreme LED Sheep Art" and watch the YouTube video that comes up.

I just googled it, thank you Cher, it has reassured me that 'not just being totally bonkers but putting a lot of imagination, time and effort into being totally bonkers is alive and well in this troubled world😂

'putting a lot of imagination, time and effort into being totally bonkers 'kind-of sums up a lot of our carry-on here in the Bluestocking, doesn't it? Especially Boily's terpsichorean extravaganzas😀

Having hung around with nurses a lot [the reasons are between me and my therapist, OK?😏] I not only know what the Bristol Scale refers to, but also the Glasgow Scale. It's amazing what you pick up in certain company😁

FarriersGirl, it's probably a blessing in disguise that are too big to fit in the bar, it saves you the irritation of bar-gerbil after bar-gerbil after bar-gerbil asking you 'Why the long face?' and laughing themselves silly because each of them thinks it is the first time anyone has ever said that to a horse in a bar🙄

We have a lovely trough for you outside in the garden, filled to the brim with g&t or hot chocolate or whatever your heart desiresSmile

DeanElderberry · 31/08/2025 18:54

Same as in June. They retain the vegetable costumes the better to terrify the bad men.

I will admit I only signed up so I could search any poster on a thread and get it to show all their posts.

See image.

Most useful on some threads when a poster is denying they said something pages earlier.

It doesn't show my many aliases, though, does it? Does it? (not panicking).
For a random example, someone I am closely associated with just replied to you about PINs on another thread.

Bannedontherun · 31/08/2025 19:13

I have no idea why i am so pissed off but i am.

i know there is no written rule about only allowing one person a species identity but i am the only one on here who has found another claiming the same species.

I have had to budge over as a consequence, sound familiar ? Huh.

Not to mention Side swipes at me.

Well it was fun for me but, it is no more.

I am convinced, I will invest £29.99. It's a profligate weekend I am also about to spend another £5 on Michael Foran's substack so I can listen to his comments about two days of submissions. ☺

I am probably over-sensitive about site owners' lack of awareness to moving images or lack of consideration over website redesigns.
This began when a website I used to spend a lot of time on (Ravelry) paid someone not very experienced to redesign theirs and instantly made it unusable to a significant number of people. That included me, although they have subsequently offered variations which mean I can stay there for a limited period. Some some people still can't use it at all.

No, literally just all the posts you made on that thread. It doesn't go any further than that

Banned, I sympathise but do not quite understand. I am not able to remember all our species identities, though.

Can you see it as something about imitation being the sincerest form of flattery?

Nooooooo! Don't go, dear Banned!

I think we had two mooses or two magpies at one time. But whatever - there's only one Banned.

I do get it, if another beetle turned up I would be very very annoyed slightly put out, there's a poster on this board who shares the Boiled part of my user name and I find myself feeling irrationally annoyed when we are on the same thread. (Although they may have used it first and I came second, I'm not sure). And then I have to give my head a wobble.

You do make a fantastic skunk, but are also an awesome hedgehog.

I feel I may have missed something, or missed some posts, who's been taking side swipes at you? (Hopefully I've not said anything that been misconstrued).

lcakethereforeIam · 31/08/2025 18:34

Why did you have to do that? Celebrating someone being cured of some really, really stubborn constipation I'm thinking.

Brexit was dominating our working lives. And felt very Brexshit. So I wanted to embody that. To be fair, Mr Badger did the actual cake baking, so that it did not also taste like shit (I am not known for my baking skills, we all have different talents in life).

@Boiledbeetle I will try hard to find a picture but it may take a while.

@Bannedontherun I am also sympathetic but slightly confused because I find it hard to remember everyone's spirit animals. I hope you are ok. Maybe some gin and cremola foam from the gerbil cocktail shaker will help? If I have inadvertently doubled up, I am sorry.

I'm sorry Banned. I can totally understand not wanting to share your unique (until now) species identity. And to retain it, despite being a sporting skunk for a few days. Not sure what to do about it - I don't think there was any intention to cause offence, but I know I would feel a little bent out of shape if another Dean turned up.

You can but with the advanced search it's all a bit messy and unless you start putting in keywords it throws everything from that poster at you and if they are posting on three threads in the same day then everything is mushed in together.

Sometimes I want to see what a TRA has said on the thread they are denying x y and z on, so it's dead quick to just show all in that thread whilst you are on it and do a quick scan through their 20 posts on the thread.

I was gutted to miss this event - any chance of an anniversary re-enactment next year?

I'm sure. Now that even the meteorologists are admitting it's Autumn, the gerbils are beginning to prepare for hallowe'en, and their interpretations of ghost tales, divination games and bobbing for apples. gWhat gcould gpossibly ggo gwrong?

ErrolTheDragon · 31/08/2025 19:51

I once had to warn off someone who’d called themself Er0llTheDragon - because they obviously hadn’t been able to register as Errol. Fortunately it’s well established that (male) Discworld swamp dragons can’t tolerate each other and are liable to explode (the unfortunate Chucky was used to blow a hole in a wall by showing him a mirror) so the doppelgänger completelyunderstood the necessity of finding a new identity!

DeanElderberry · 31/08/2025 19:52

Banned will always be The Hedgehog to me, like Irene Adler.
