I wholeheartedly agree with what Jamie Lee Curtis says in this article about cosmetic treatments but wonder if she feels the same about the mutilation of bodies in the name of “the right of human beings to be who they are", which she says in relation to her trans identifying child.

‘Generations of women have been disfigured’: Jamie Lee Curtis lets rip on plastic surgery, power, and Hollywood’s age problem

The actor explains how she is fighting back against the ‘cosmeceutical industrial complex’ and why she has finally found freedom at 66 years old

I didn't read the interview in the G so berate me! However I'd be very surprised if JLC hasn't had some subtle work done herself! But maybe it's airbrushing in pics who knows?

As to the point you make in OP, I agree with you.

She makes interesting points about beauty standards. She explains how she saw her parents' careers dive when they lost their good looks. She glosses over the trans issue

SequinsandSoleros · 26/07/2025 11:41

Interesting interview. It feels "off" - that EB got lots of material (not a difficult interview in that sense) but that JLC was not easy to interview. One can laud that no-fucks-to-give attitude (a robust exchange/strident is no bad thing).
But I don't feel there was much love lost there. Bolshy/aggy tone, which as a fellow control freak, I ought to empathise with but JLC doesn't appear to be open to debate: given her very strong stance on surgery and labels, she should be more curious as to how this has affected Lindsay and Ruby.
Because LiLo has absolutely been a victim of the industry and JLC's child's preferred gender identity/femme presentation is surely at odds with JLC railing against societal pressures and labels.
JLC has had surgery and lipo and Botox. This might well give her reason to criticise the industry which abhors ageing but it also comes across as a former smoker judging cigarettes even though she claims she isn't proselytising.

FateAmenableToChange · 26/07/2025 12:20

To be fair to her, Ruby does not look like he has had any 'feminisation' surgery. And my guess is that is the motivation driving this agenda for her, rather than much of an interest in what her peers are up to.

JLC has been very vocal about her support for her child, and you cant blame her for that. But equally she does not seem to have funded any kind of physical transformation for him. And given the desires of most transwomen, I would guess he does want this.

So how is she managing that.... with a blanket open dislike for these surgeries no matter what your sex is. And that is on brand for JLC too, who has always been more on the androgynous side of female actors.

Careful about using the word 'strident' on here! I used it once several years ago and was dogpiled for multiple pages.

That's because you are a man and - just a wild guess based in your so very familiar posting history - we're using it pejoratively about women here

I've literally never been a man - transitioned at school many years before I became an adult. Wouldn't even know how to be a man if I tried.

You don’t need to try. It’s literally embedded in your DNA.
You can try very hard not to be, but that won’t work either.

You don't need to try to be what you are. A man is simply an adult who was born male.

NebulousWhistler · 26/07/2025 22:59

I struggle with JC. Her son is the personification of a man from Malaga.
It’s irrational, maybe, but I struggle with TRAs in general.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 27/07/2025 01:46

I love jlc but mainly cos loads of people say i look like her

and yes…that is absolutely a boast, not a stealth boast either

Although to be very fair…i have just made this thread about me 😀😀😀

Dogsrbrill · 27/07/2025 02:30

I feel conflicted about this , i was against plastic surgery, age gracefully etc, but then I had an eye operation for medical reasons, to improve my vision , it also gave me something of an eye lid lift. Honestly the results are great, I can wear eyeshadow now. I honestly think in retrospect that a bit of surgery if it Makes you feel better is fine.

Lucky you, she's a very fine looking woman. She was very defensive about the privilege that brings in the interview.

Um you’re an adult male. So you’re a male with a trans identity. What’s the word for an adult male again?

PermanentTemporary · 27/07/2025 07:24

Oh that’s a good interview, though I agree it sounds like hard work, which I’m sure interviewing is. And I wouldn’t agree that she’s glossing over the trans issue; I think she is refusing consistently to speak for other people, which in sleb interviews is one of the reliable ways to goad the interviewee into providing headlines. I’d take her statement as consistent - that having the kind of surgery to ‘fix’ your appearance that has been aggressively promoted to everyone for a range of purposes for about 80 years is a mug’s game. And there I can 100% agree with her.

PermanentTemporary · 27/07/2025 07:29

PS I don’t think JLC’s performance as Donna Berzatto is particularly good, whereas her performance as Wanda is a standout turn of the 80s.

SueSuddio · 28/07/2025 09:39

I struggle with JLC since she became a vociferous TRA - only for her darling child btw, not seeing her being vocal for Lia Thomas retaining their medals.

I don't know, just strikes me as an a-hole, I have a friend who has been the same since their son started to dress in women's clothes. Better attack everyone else rather than wonder what is at the root of their child's obsession.

I agree that plastic surgery holds more dangers than are being discussed.

grootsin · 28/07/2025 10:04

JLC was gorgeous when she was younger, but to be fair to her, she doesn’t have much vanity as she’s getting older (mostly) naturally. she’s got plenty of natural lines on her face and she could afford to do a Demi Moore, but hasn’t. She comes from a nuts family background so it’s totally unsurprising that she’s embracing the trans child with gusto.

It’s additional currency towards her wacky persona

SionnachRuadh · 28/07/2025 10:10

Someone once gave me the very wise advice, if you like Stevie Nicks as a musician, don't follow her social media because she is so up herself it will put you off ever listening to her again.

I think that follows for lots of entertainers. They become successful because they have charisma and, usually, striking looks. They're not deep thinkers. I still have a lot of affection for JLC based on her classic acting roles. I'm not sure that would survive much exposure to her Bluesky, of which the most you can say is that she's not as insane as Mark Hamill.
