‘It’s devastating’: Trans cricketers feel betrayed by the game they love

They can't be their authentic selves any more.

“Most sports are not an environment trans people want to be in. Open cricket is predominantly men and is not the nicest place for women to play cricket. It involves prejudice."

And women's sports are for women. They're not an environment they want men in.

It never seems to occur to them that they make the women uncomfortable does it? It's all me me me and about how they feel.

Helleofabore · 08/05/2025 19:26

Oh dear, oh dear. How very sad that they feel that they cannot play as the sex they are!

It must have been so freeing to use a lighter bat and ball, and have shorter boundaries!! And face slower bowlers.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 08/05/2025 19:28

Oh dear my violin is so tiny I can’t seem to find it

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 08/05/2025 19:28

For Amelia Short, Jamie Hughes, Alice, and Anaya Bangar, women’s cricket promised to be a place where they could thrive as their true selves

fellas, your true selves are men. play men's cricket or the open category. why is it women's job to help you be your imaginary true self?

Shadowsunray · 08/05/2025 19:29

I honestly do not give a damn about the feelings of male cheats who were colonising women's sport. Thrilled they have been booted out but sick and tired of hearing their pathetic whingeing.

2024onwardsandup · 08/05/2025 19:31

What about trans men?

MyrtleLion · 08/05/2025 19:32

But I only feel my authentic self if I can play cricket with a really wide bat and a soft ball bowled really gently and I can saunter down the crease. Why don't I get to play my favourite kind of cricket? It's NOT FAIR and it's DEFINITELY NOT cheating!

I hope you were being ironic. Otherwise I think you are being unfair to women cricketers, even though I agree 100% that those born male should not take part in the women's game.

Go and watch a game of women's cricket and you will see.

What about trans men?

They can play on both women's and mixed teams. Very few trans men play on men's sports teams, oddly enough

user2848502016 · 08/05/2025 19:57

Oh for goodness sake, cricket is one of the sports that has a good amount of mixed teams - this is just proof that they don’t really care about sport they just don’t want women to have their own teams.
If they don’t feel comfortable on a mixed team with other men then that’s a man problem! Nothing at all to do with women

Of course I was mocking the men who said they could only be their authentic selves playing women's cricket. How was that not obvious?

TheOtherRaven · 08/05/2025 19:59

If you can only feel your authentic self when trashing women and their sporting opportunities then really you're going to have to get a grip on living inauthentically.

This psychobabble does not excuse the behaviour, the entitlement or the mad chauvenism.

It was to me and it made me laugh. Although speaking as someone with appalling hand eye coordination, your idea would probably be the only way I'd be able to play cricket anyway 🤦.

Why are they SO needy. The maturity level of toddlers.

I cannot get a grip on this "true self" bollocks that's getting bandied about. Do they not understand that anyone can dream that up. I can claim that my true self is to be to be a world class tennis play (minor matter of hand eye coordination not withstanding) but it doesn't mean Wimbledon's going to let me into Centre Court, no matter how much I scream and stamp my foot.

Toddlers have the passable excuse that their brains are still developing. That doesn't fly with grown men tantruming "but I WANT to play women's cricket".

I was told on here this week that ‘taking your whole self to work’ is very much a thing these days 🙄 it makes me very glad I work for myself, because I would be bound to leave at least half of myself behind due to my having a ‘lady brain’. It’s absolute bollocks.

I love women’s cricket, the best thing about the 100 is that you watch both men’s and women’s matches. the women’s match is often more exciting and tricky and unpredictable, but for sure the bowling speed is so much lower and the big smash hits are fewer.
i feel that women’s cricket has evolved differently and is less wham bam than the men’s, and should stay that way. Without men.

Lyannaa · 08/05/2025 21:05

Why are trans people still going around saying that the SC ruling doesn’t mean that trans women are not women. The judgement couldn’t have been clearer. I’m sick of these people. For the first time in my life I can see that the left can be just as toxic as the right.

I thought 'taking your whole self to work' had been quietly dropped.. I must be wrong.😕
It's such a bad idea - you should bring your professional self to work, and the fact that you are a Charlton Athletic fan or a pigeon fancier or a member of a barbershop quartet may be very important to you, but it is not part of your professional self.

That goes for LARPing as anything, including as a member of the opposite sex.
Not professional.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 08/05/2025 21:08

@LadyBracknellsHandbagg Oh Christ, I already spend far too much time most days looking for my keys. Now I'm going to have to find my true, authentic self too?!

EmpressaurusKitty · 08/05/2025 21:09

“Most sports are not an environment trans people want to be in. Open cricket is predominantly men and is not the nicest place for women to play cricket. It involves prejudice."

And that is exactly the kind of thing Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign should be dealing with.

My true self is to be a 6ft 28 year old Scandinavian blonde. But fuck me if i can't manage others to see past myn51 year old 5 foot 1; 13 stone arthritis-ridden self.

Bigots the lotta ya.

"Wah wah, men dominate cricket, and I, being a man, would like to whinge about that while dominating women's cricket!"
