A woman is an adult female, and the court has made that absolutely clear.
I actually welcome the judgment because I think it gives real clarity. It allows those that have got to draw up guidance to be really clear about what that guidance should say.
So I think it’s important that we see the judgment for what it is. It’s a welcome step forward.
It’s real clarity in an area where we did need clarity, I’m pleased it’s come about.
We need to move and make sure that we now ensure that all guidance is in the right place according to that judgment.

Thoughts?

He looked like he'd swallowed a wasp.

Where was this? I would like to watch.

The mountain laboured and brought forth a mouse.

Kindersurprising · 22/04/2025 12:24

He said TWAW. I like to think he said that while under election pressure and this is his ‘real’ stance but who the fuck knows? They have no choice but to go along with it, otherwise the ex DPP will be up for interfering in judicial process. Although they could overrule it via an opposing Act of Parliament but they’re not. So that’s something.

inkognitha · 22/04/2025 12:24

Real clear 😂

When he backtracked on biological women before the election, he was also using « clear » a lot, wasn’t he?

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 22/04/2025 12:25

My initial thought is it's a lot of waffle saying nothing of much substance but combined with Bridget Philipsons much more emphatic use the toilets of your natal sex I've got some hope.

DaydreamingDogs · 22/04/2025 12:25

He thinks TWAW so I don’t think he’s pleased about the ruling bringing clarity at all. Awful man.

IHeartHalloumi · 22/04/2025 12:26

Good. Shuts down any nonsense about defying the law or amendments to the EQ. He's a lawyer - I'm not a fan but he's not stupid.

He's a lawyer. TW were women. Now, they're not.

EasternStandard · 22/04/2025 12:30

What a repetitive statement. It’s as if he found it hard to utter 😂

zanahoria · 22/04/2025 12:30

The sub-text is

"Did I get away with that U-turn? "

I think he's a 'legal fiction' kind of guy. And he only mentioned guidance, not reviewing the law. TRAs will be cross. Good.

Mermoose · 22/04/2025 12:31

A man for no seasons.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that he had to accept that women are adult human females. But he deserves no praise.

SmegmaCausesBV · 22/04/2025 12:34

I think this might just be the first bit of legislation that actually protects women under Starmer since they took power? All that talk about healthcare and education...

“A woman is an adult female, and the court has made that absolutely clear.”

Starmer was uncertain before but now the courts have said it it’s settled. Thank fuck it didn’t go the other way. It’s scary that this man is running the country. I wonder if he has any opinions of his own?

That quote is from the Guardian.

I was initially very pleased to read this but then I googled and saw that he said "women are adult females" back in 2023 so this is nothing new from him. I'm reserving judgement until a full statement from him comes out but if the interview with BP this morning is indicative of the governments position then I am happy.

He just wanted their votes at the time !

bigboykitty · 22/04/2025 12:39

Adult human female was always the case, but it's not what he used to say. Nor does the SC decision relate to this really; it just affirms the original meaning and intent of the Equality Act and that people cannot fantasise after the event that it actually meant something different and expect society and the law to be shaped around that misappropriation.

Good stuff.

SionnachRuadh · 22/04/2025 12:41

It's very weak sauce, isn't it?

He's constantly saying "when I was Britain's chief prosecutor" and Labour try to portray him as badass. But he's more like Frank Drebin than Judge Dredd.

Very telling that when he's course corrected, it's not been because he's listened to women, or even listened to MPs whose seats look like flipping to Reform. It's taken Tony Blair and the Supreme Court to shift him, and even then he won't say the words himself.

SmegmaCausesBV · 22/04/2025 12:41

I do see them as quite "Outraged, from Tunbridge Wells". Years to pick a cause to help the world and they picked...themselves.
