Here for your delight and delectation is the hostelry by, for, and about wise, intelligent, creative and kind women, their assorted avatars including (but not limited to) a remarkable beetle, an astute android, a wise cake, and an assembly of companion creatures and animal assistants.

Food and drink available in abundance, all with remarkable non-damaging qualities.

Males may congregate in the nearby Staunch Ally and sometimes visit the stableyard to view outdoor performances by the gerbil waitstaff (who need to be distracted after the moment after that terrible 'misunderstanding' about the meaning of safe sex).

last thread here if you need to know why the Quokkas need some extra cuddles, and why the Cabybaras are being particularly efficient just now

It has been A Day here.
Such a day that I was drinking gin at 5.30pm. And only then and not at 5pm as I was firing off an email upstairs and the gin, lovingly prepped by DH, was downstairs where I had mistakenly left it. Fool.

Tanqueray Sevilla.
Can also recommend Tanqueray Malacca.
We are now out of both.

I do have literally pints of sloe gin, however, and that is also good with tonic.

DH has now ordered a Comfort Curry from the local takeaway, and DD has listened to me ranting over the phone.

<breathes>

But I do like a good set of fireworks, even if AI can't spell.
Someone should get AI one of those little blue books with two columns per page, and work on teaching it 10 words a week.

I like a challenge, @EdithStourton, but I'm not confident of the outcome in this situation.

Love the pic, @Magpiecomplex
I suspect that you are onto a losing wicket, but one can only just keep soldiering on.
Or as AI would know dout hav it, soldering on.

And loving the fireworks AND the laptop, @ifIwerenotanandroid
Much appreciated.

LOL, this is another AI vision of you, seems appropriate at this point.

How are you feeling today, Swashbuckled?
Here's a song about someone you might have crossed cutlasses with - she joined the Navy so might have been pursuing pirates like youSmile

I love this song because she joins the Navy not for any namby-pamby reason like 'following her true love' 🙄but 'to hear the cannons rattle and the music so grand'.
It's disappointing that when she tells the fine lady who fell in love with her that she was in fact a girl and not a sailor, the lady didn't say 'Heck, nobody's perfect' and they didn't sail off into the sunset, but, heck nobody's perfect...

And she ends up being totally unrepentant and prepared to 'put off my hat and feathers and run the rigging again' - I love it!

I posted it elsewhere yonks ago, but now that we have a dashing pirate amongst us, I remembered this dashing young sailor - I think you'd admire her swagger, SwashbuckledSmile

Thanks @MarieDeGournay

I’m not blowing my nose as much today, so that’s a good sign. Still rather wiped out though.

Thanks also for the song! I have been singing it heartily from up in the crow’s nest. The crows joined in too; at least I think they were singing along as opposed to screeching at me to shut up. Hard to tell with crows.

I have sprayed the loft with the oil stuff. I didn’t hear them at all last night though. I think they are climbing up a drainpipe at the side of the house. From a brief glance earlier, it seems the bottom of that drainpipe might be in my neighbour’s garden. (The lunatic that I mentioned earlier, so that’s unfortunate.) I will monitor and review the scampering tonight.

EdithStourton · 13/03/2025 19:19

@ifIwerenotanandroid if whatever is in that bottle beside me has alcohol in it, I'm having some as soon as I've emptied my current glass of wine.

Just popping my head round the door (a very occasional visitor but regular reader) to mention there’s a website / app called Minute Cryptic which offers one clue per day, along with a hint and letters as needed. And there’s an explanation you can click on if you wish afterwards. I’ve learned quite a lot and really enjoy it - as my 75 day ‘streak’ suggests!
Cheers to everyone Wine

Thanks! Will take a look.

I love this message so much because there have been times when I too have finished off different bottles of delicious gin within an hour and also left a DH-prepared G&T downstairs.

To be fair I have then either texted him or used the smart speaker to.get him to bring it to me immediately. And he has complied.

Dissected the interview over dinner. A slip of an interviewer's tongue said that I would see their (very beautiful) office at the next interview. This does not mean I will definitely get a second interview but it indicates I performed well.

How do they manage to use the upper pockets on those dungarees? 🤔

I don't think the are intended to be functional pockets, I think they are inspirational reminders of how Xena the Warrior Princess carries her sword on her backGrin

Been there, done that!

Probably explains why the AIs grasp of the English language is rather lacking!

They have roasted guinea pigs on spits outside restaurants in Peru to entice customers in.
Probably not a good holiday destination if you have children and they have much-loved pet guinea-pigs...😧

I used to have pet guinea pigs when I was a child. I was horrified to learn about the Peruvians eating them, But they are quite fat and sausage shaped aren't they? I guess my senses have dulled over the years.
