NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #15

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to continue for 2 weeks although once it was in to the second week it was looking like this would not happen. The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.

Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] headed Public Access Request (Peggie v Fife Health Board) 4104864/2024 and requesting access.

However, as a result of problems with the livestreaming, apparently, as a result of a very large number of observers, remote public access to the hearing was suspended on Tuesday 11 February. It was suggested that it might be reinstated at some point but don't count on it.

I mean, tbh, I have my doubts about someone who would deliberately stay in a Trump hotel. She's still entitled to a single sex changing room though.

Now I'm even more angry for Sandie - this is her line manager who is clearly hostile to her. I can well imagine how frustrating and isolating it must have been in that workplace, watching them all fawn of DU...

I can understand people not wanting to be treated by someone with Dr Upton's personality. But questioning his technical medical ability is a bit pointless because it is possible to have batshit ideas about male and female brains and still be fully conversant with the anatomy and physiology of male and female bodies.

ED - I was working on Boxing Day, I saw email that was sent in the early hours of Christmas Day, saw it about 5 pm, it was a generic type email

I wouldn't personally stay in a Trump hotel, but it is a bit of a jump to conclude that someone supports Trump and his policies just from the fact they have stayed in one of his hotels.

But Dr Upton thinks he is a biological female. That seems grounds to question his medical ability sure enough.

I think it was established from earlier evidence that Sandie Peggie does support at least some of Trump's policies, although it's unclear which ones.

How quickly we've moved on from Suella Braveramn and the Tories generally, to Trump being the new all purpose bogeyman. I guess there was a vacancy.

I abhor trump, but does that mean I'm more entitled to single-sex spaces than someone who loves him? No, it bloody well does not. I'm getting more and more infuriated each day. I think I might have to stop following altogether.
