She's being supported by the FSU

https://archive.ph/NKvVX

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/12/05/gender-critical-student-connie-shaw-radio-leeds-university/

All the claims they make about people feeling unsafe because of her views...she actually is unsafe because of their views...on her views.

Words are not violence. People, of all hair colours, need to learn that their views will not be universally shared. Agreeing to disagree should be taught in schools.

Iirc this is the same student who was quoted in the media when there were men using female nightclub toilets. All power to her and I’m glad the FSU are supporting her.

RapidOnsetGenderCritic · 05/12/2024 22:04

i see the comments demonstrate that hardly anyone understands what "gender critical" means, but at least everyone seems to understand the nonsense of "inclusive" as long as you conform.

Enough4me · 05/12/2024 23:04

She makes valid points extremely clearly, basically highlighting that women are women and men are not.

For that she's faced being thrown out, as though she's the one lying!

AstonsGerbil · 05/12/2024 23:08

Academia is lost

BabaYagasHouse · 05/12/2024 23:12

I've recently been enjoying her podcast:

Please give her some good ratings! She says the TRAs at the university have been voting her podcasts down.

OK! I will do that.
I'm very impressed with her. Interesting, intelligent conversation and interesting guests.
But more than that- to stand for what she believes, as an outsider in her environment and so young.
I would not have had her courage at that age. Not even now really.
Happy to support her.
Thanks for the heads up!

Enough4me · 06/12/2024 00:46

TRAs trying to silence people - again?
When will they develop a conscience or real-world awareness?

SinnerBoy · 06/12/2024 07:15

Has the SU been sleeping through the last two years? Are they not aware of all the harassment and discrimination cases won by women subject to those, on this subject? Do they believe that their constitution trumps national legislation and settled case law?

They cannot hope to win in court, but sadly, in a way, they have a victory. They've pushed her out and it's unlikely that she will regain her place before she has completed her degree.

They are utter scum.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/12/2024 09:18

The podcast looks fantastic. Have bookmarked.

I dunno, this will have legs, they will loose, the podcast will be listened to far and wide.....

Have put the podcast in my library. 👍

So bad. Orwellian

Enough4me · 06/12/2024 15:14

The latest nonsense was an attempt to change language again: transwomen and non transwomen (as in TW were the original and we cannot use the word women 😂).

FranticFrankie · 06/12/2024 16:02

Why oh why? What about this student threatens the TRAs?
What is their problem? Putting this student under so much stress in her final year? Where’s the uni support?
As for non-transwoman, what a farcical, stupid old load of baloney and mangling of language
I’m getting to the end of my tether with all this 💩
It’s bloody ridiculous

Mochudubh · 06/12/2024 16:04

I've read the transcripts of a couple of episodes which I find easier than listening as I can skip through the uhms and aahs. The one with Susan Smith "The Woman who Wouldn't Wheesht" was very good.

I've added her to my "follow" list and given her 5 stars.

lcakethereforeIam · 06/12/2024 17:10

Thanks @MrBungle I've just watched that.

Just listened to her episode with Graham Linehan - wish I’d had a tenth of her guts, brains and inquisitiveness at 20, really impressive Connie Shaw

milski · 06/12/2024 21:17

I've bookmarked her podcasts and will rate once I've listened. Thanks for sharing. What a brave lady.

Enough4me · 07/12/2024 00:19

This has picked up interest on X. I sincerely hope it jettisons her career and she gets her role back.

I notice that TRAs are now trying to take over 'female', as in 'transwomen are female'.

Grammarnut · 07/12/2024 11:08

She objected to this question in her feminist philosophy course: “Can someone, such as a very powerful Queen, not be systematically subordinated, but still be a woman?”
It does suggest that a feature of being a woman is to be subordinated, but the point of a philosophy essay is to address the question and see if its premise is true. Interesting essay to write, I think, but I suspect that it is set reflects some pretty stereotypical ideas about women among tutors on the course. Better to ask if subordination is a feature of womanhood, or only a social construct?
I will listen to her podcasts when I can. Stupid people at Leeds.

Interview with the student - I like this young woman, she knows her stuff:

HoppityBun · 08/12/2024 01:14

I had not heard of her before this thread and I listened to her discussion of the Alastair Campbell/ Rory Stewart event. She seemed remarkably clear and even headed to me. If there’s any way to support her I’d like to do that.
