Judge is confused about why you’d want a GRC if you didn’t want to change anything except documentation

Hope she keeps wondering about that

Shortshriftandlethal · 27/11/2024 15:51

I wish Aiden would speak more slowly. He's making excellent points - but there is no time to absorb and consider them.

Szygy · 27/11/2024 15:51

Excellent. He’s picked up on the adoption nonsense.

Appalonia · 27/11/2024 15:51

Adoption doesn't affect anyone else's rights. Good point.

He has had half his time taken away

IDareSay · 27/11/2024 15:52

He has also mentioned a man who wants a GRC wanting to keep 'a functioning penis'

highame · 27/11/2024 15:53

The one about abortion was interesting. Women have to comply with the act transmen do not

Signalbox · 27/11/2024 15:53

Interesting point. Pregnant men not subject to the Abortion Act.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 27/11/2024 15:56

Wish there'd been a shot of the judges when he got to the point about the man who specifically wanted to transition but retain a functional penis.

Did I understand the abortion point correctly - a transman has complete freedom to end a pregnancy, in any way and at any point, rather than being subject to the usual abortion restrictions?

RedToothBrush · 27/11/2024 15:56

Shortshriftandlethal · 27/11/2024 15:08

I admire your optimism.....but Starmer has given no indication, so far, as being someone who is willing to change his mind or back track on policy commitments. We'll see.......next year is when they'll attempt to modernise the GRA.

Edited

Quietly dropping is not the same as someone being vocal and then retracing steps vocally.

Post US election the Labour party would actually have to be nuts to push some of the proposed trans related stuff though lolwithout robustly polling and better consideration - and by that they will understand robust polling isn't just about reaffirming the echo chamber because that's what's caught the Dems out.

It comes down to how good their strategists are and how vocal Tony Blair is privately/publicly (Blair gets it. However every time he opens his mouth in public he does the equivalent of making fairies die due to just how unpopular he is. He would be stupid to say much in public, but don't underestimate his private influence either).

And I do believe Starmer understands polling. He makes a point of playing the odds on that and avoiding controversial issues as a general rule.

highame · 27/11/2024 15:57

I just love the word 'unsupported'

Mmmnotsure · 27/11/2024 15:57

He is getting the points over. Hope the judges can watch it back at half speed.

The judge asked about people changing their bodies. He points out that women who have had mastectomies or hysterectomies for medical reasons are no less women that those who haven't. Having those surgeries for GI reasons doesn't make them less women either. And it doesn't make them men.

If so, that's outrageous, remember those women who got called to court for taking pills for abortion during covid?

This was such a good point

chilling19 · 27/11/2024 15:59

Yes, the hurty feels

Zestylemo · 27/11/2024 15:59

trumping women's rights, love it

Shortshriftandlethal · 27/11/2024 15:59

"Why do men's feelings trump women's feelings"

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/11/2024 15:59

He's great here.

fanOfBen · 27/11/2024 15:59

Women's feelings matter too! Who knew?

ILikeDungs · 27/11/2024 16:00

He is centering women. Excellent

Appalonia · 27/11/2024 16:00

Women have rights re their privacy, dignity and safety. Women's rights have been ignored.

YES!

IDareSay · 27/11/2024 16:00

This is a tour de force from A O'N

larklane17 · 27/11/2024 16:00

Not a trump card.
Women not just discounted but ignored.
He's so on the ball with this.
