I know there are many older threads about LGBTY Scotland but I can't decide which one to put this. Rosie Millard has resigned as Chairwoman of CiN over their delayed reaction to the Rennie child abuse scandal:

Children in Need chairwoman resigns with tirade at chief executive

Rosie Millard sent a scathing letter criticising Simon Antrobus for ‘dithering’ after she flagged paedophile scandals at a charity awarded £466,000 in grants

I can think of stronger words than dithering.
But she's writing for a wide audience. Respect to her for resigning and making as much noise as she can.

Needed its own thread.

Big news. Well done, Rosie Millard.

Igneococcus · 21/11/2024 06:53

In the News section too, not hidden away in the Scotland section.

Quite why Children in Need is supporting LGBTQ 25 year olds is beyond me.

Taytoface · 21/11/2024 07:20

Well done that woman, and if you are on here, thankyou.

Plasmodesmata · 21/11/2024 07:56

The response from the head of LGBTY Scotland is really quite something. People are "attacking" because they are anti inclusive. No apologies for the two massive failures in safeguarding or any reassurance that things have changed at the organisation.

"Time and time again, those with anti-inclusivity motives point to historic allegations in attempts to destroy our reputation. Allegations that have been investigated and cleared by Police Scotland, and proven to have had no link to our work.”

ArabellaScott · 21/11/2024 07:58

People aren't inclusive of paedophiles. How terrible.

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 21/11/2024 08:09

Well I stopped reading at “images of newborn babies” because I almost vomited.

Very well done, Rosie. I’ve always had respect for you but you’ve gone further up in my estimation now. I bet you’re here somewhere 😊

WinterCrow · 21/11/2024 08:13

It takes a very brave woman to resign on a point of principle and is so rarely seen these days. I hope Rosie Millard's action precipitate's proper, transparent investigation of these matters.

Defies belief that an organisation with so many serious safeguarding scandals is still allowed to work with children. But as the C of E serial abuser of children & young people shows us, those in powerful positions so often ignore and even enable predators to continue.

Not just allowed. Positively promoted by many if not most schools in Scotland.

Well done to her. I really hope this gets a lot of media attention. Will be interesting to see how the BBC handle this 👀

Plasmodesmata · 21/11/2024 10:42

I might be misremembering this but did Children in Need also give money to Mermaids? Do they still?

nauticant · 21/11/2024 10:55

Apparently so. To clarify this, someone did an FOI request to the BBC about that. The answer was, effectively, "fuck off".

Rosie was once the arts correspondent for the Beeb so must have a fair few contacts there…

nauticant · 21/11/2024 10:57

From Mermaids' accounts in 2019:

Income from charitable activities
Children in Need - 43,125

Iwishihadariver · 21/11/2024 10:59

This is why I no longer contribute to BBC CiN. It does seem to be a bit of a minefield when it comes to charities the terven can support....

"Allegations" is an interesting word to use of Rennie. And "proven to have had no link to our work" is an interesting phrase to use about Easton.

INeedAPensieve · 21/11/2024 11:02

I'll need to find the thread I created on LGBTYS. It's getting ridiculous now. Get this organisation out of schools until a proper investigation is done, safeguarding is put in place and they are no longer a sacred caste. As well as two convicted paedophiles working for them (one who was CEO and drove policy and recruitment, the other wrote a handbook for children, grooming them essentially on how to go no contact with parents) plus additional sexual abuse claims (one ongoing as far as I'm aware), it is becoming increasingly clear that this organisation is an active danger to children. Get them the fuck out of Scottish schools. Babies????!!! It's horrifying....

Yes indeed. "Allegations" my back side. THEY ARE BOTH CONVICTED EVIL PAEDOPHILES!!! They are in prison!!!! It has gone far beyond an allegation. JFC. Rennie accessed CSA during working hours at LGBTYS offices and using a Hotmail account. He abused babies, including one of his close friends children. It's horrifying.

Then there are the other allegations of abuse and grooming by other people within the organisation which are ongoing.

Plasmodesmata · 21/11/2024 11:17

According to the article Rennie is in prison but the more recent one is not. For some reason.

To be charitable, is she suggesting allegations about LGBTYS itself, rather than Rennie?

That said, PS decided it didn't need to investigate LGBTYS, afair, despite Rennie's use of a work computer to access the images. So there was no investigation.

And using the offices and computer of LGBTYS could arguably be said to be a connection.
