I know there are many older threads about LGBTY Scotland but I can't decide which one to put this. Rosie Millard has resigned as Chairwoman of CiN over their delayed reaction to the Rennie child abuse scandal:

Children in Need chairwoman resigns with tirade at chief executive

Rosie Millard sent a scathing letter criticising Simon Antrobus for ‘dithering’ after she flagged paedophile scandals at a charity awarded £466,000 in grants

I was just reading this on BBC, madness. Good for her making a stand.

birdiesings · 21/11/2024 17:26

My local Tesco is fundraising for them. Think I have to drop them a message.

WomensSports · 21/11/2024 17:51

I've just seen the BBC article. Good for Rosie, standing up for what is right.

God these charities are fucking teflon coated aren't they.

When I think of how Kids Company was torn apart for what amounted to disorganisation.

Toseland · 21/11/2024 18:19

Kids Company wasn't just disorganisation - wasn't one of the leaders taking class A drugs with some of the kids?

PronounssheRa · 21/11/2024 18:33

This is why I stopped donating to CIN a few years ago, zero due dilligance re who they give grants to.

I wish the general public were a little more aware of this, because I think only decreases in donations will lead to accountability

It was a psychologist (I think?) who worked for them. And yes a totally unprofessional, ridiculous and stupid thing to do.

Not a defence of her actions but I've known of teachers do similar and worse but the schools they worked for are still running.

Not saying KC was perfect but they were committed to working with a very marginalised, unfashionable kind of kid. I think this is pertinent when you consider the suspicion that employees with trans kids contribute to the shocking bias at the BBC and politicians are happy to admit to being influenced by their own privileged trans ally offspring.

The kind of kids that KC worked with did not have the ears of the media or government.

Oh well done Rosie. 👏 how can CiN get away without doing sufficient due diligence into the charities they give money too?!
(Digressing of LGBTYS slightly but what with the Ingram-Moores in the press again, I wonder if any charity is run properly and effectively these days?!)

Oo both these stories on BBC News front page!

Excellent article, thanks for the share.

'Blessed are the whistleblowers, not the self-righteous who think they have God’s ear. The Private Eye editor, Ian Hislop, who has been the conduit for many, notes they are often difficult people: prickly, obsessive, annoying. Because speaking out means being unafraid to stand alone.'

Thanks for links.

Thanks for this- got to the end, but then you need to be a paid subscriber for the rest.
Would you be happy to summarise what he says after the "Why was Nov 9th so important?" question at the end please Arabella or anyone with a subscription?

Ah, sorry, didn't realise it was paywalled.

'October 28th 2009 LGBT Youth Scotland’s ex-CEO James Rennie was sentenced to life for the most disgusting child abuse imaginable'

' Children in Need made its first donation -of £24,000- to an organisation that a convicted child abuser had recently led. And they did it just a couple of weeks after he was jailed' (November 2009)

And Andrew Easton, recently convicted, wrote the Coming Out Guide' in late 2009.

So basically Rennie was jailed, and a few/couple of weeks later, Children In Need made a large donation. They seem to have not done any investigation into the charity. Nobody at all seems to have made any investigation at all. Not the police, not the Scottish Government, not Childline.

No worries Arabella, very appreciative of any links shared.
Yes, it is shocking- the lack of investigation.
Really highlights the danger of any kind of sacred caste type thinking.
With so much experience behind us, including multiple documentaries and exposès- you would hope that safeguarding thinking would be getting stronger- not worse😔
