At Tehran University.

Assaulted by morality police for 'improper hijab', the young woman stripped to her underwear. She was then arrested.

I hope very much that she's okay.

In the hope that international attention may help keep her safe, please spread the word.

I watched this last night with a sense of dread.

I saw that the Baroness was making enquires as to how she can be protected. I would assume that could also mean removed from the country. I cannot imagine she will be safe there at all now.

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 03/11/2024 09:51

I know, it's very disturbing to think about.

Amnesty Iran have tweeted about it, and I believe a change in government has led to a review of the hijab law.

I hope she's safe.

Oh, hold on, I've got that backwards.

'During his campaign, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian denounced the proposed hijab legislation as the "Darkness Plan" and pledged to end morality police patrols and the use of violence against women for non-compliance with hijab rules.

Nevertheless, in October, Iran's Guardian Council approved the controversial Hijab and Chastity bill, which is now under parliamentary review.'

So it's on the way in, not on the way out?

Fucksake.

Oh god, I hope she’s safe. Sadly, probably not.

User37482 · 03/11/2024 10:33

She is incredibly brave, I fear for her safety but dear god I admire her guts.

PermanentTemporary · 03/11/2024 11:14

Fuck she is so brave. Terrifying. I hope the massed diplomats of the world are asking questions about her. Writing to my MP to ask if the Foreign Office can enquire about her wellbeing. Keeping the spotlight on.

Ohfuckrucksack · 03/11/2024 11:17

She is incredibly brave and I hope there are people involved in checking how she is/keeping in contact.

If she is visible in media reporting, maybe it will keep people asking questions about how she is.

Unfortunately it could go the other way with Iranian officials seeing her as a lesson to others and outside influences/media.

This is one of the most jaw dropping things I've seen in a long while.

Ovaries of steel. I hope to gawd she will be okay...

Uproot · 03/11/2024 11:50

I've read elsewhere that she was violently arrested, her head hit either a car door or the pavement and there was a lot of blood on her and the cars tires. And that she had since been taken to a mental health hospital.

I have no idea how true this is, I don't have time to check sources as I have an event on today I'm just about to leave for. But I feel safe to say that no matter what happened she probably isn't safe.

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 03/11/2024 14:01

Her name is reported as Ahoo Daryaei (آهو_دریایی)

Usually I take a dim view of nudity in protests but this is an exception because for once it's actually highly relevant. Heroic.

braggingaboutbrasize · 03/11/2024 14:12

I add my voice to those saluting her bravery

Buffypaws · 03/11/2024 14:17

She was so sick of their shit. She knew they’d kill her and they probably have. Another martyred woman. Hopefully it makes a difference but 2 years from Mahsa Amini things feel more shit if anything. When my friend visited Iran from Afghanistan this year she found the police so terrifying she couldn’t wait to go back to the taliban.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 03/11/2024 16:49

These young women are so courageous and what is happening to them is so awful .

IwantToRetire · 03/11/2024 20:36

In this version of what happened apparently Univesity authorities are claiming its because she had a "mental disorder".
https://www.jpost.com/middle-east/iran-news/article-827311 (link includes some videos of what happened)

But who wouldn't go over the top. To comply with wearing the hijab and then to be told she was wearing it "improperly".

The tension and fear that women in Iran must live with everyday is beyond anything most of us have to live with.

So whether she was consiously brave or just desperate at being constantly being policed, I do hope she is safe.

But feel gloomy about her future going by other arrests.

University officials claimed that the woman was suffering from "severe mental pressure and had a mental disorder."

Yes I remember this came up on a thread about how a more "liberal" President was now in post. (another example of sloppy western "news")

Had they done their homework they would have seen this https://www.iranintl.com/en/202407083550

nocoolnamesleft · 03/11/2024 21:38

Bloody hell, she's brave.

Circumferences · 03/11/2024 22:28

Iranian women used to be so glamorous, so free, so stylish and beautiful. Intelligent, ambitious, prosperous.

Their country has gone into the darkest time.

Women's freedom on this earth must never be taken for granted.

samarrange · 03/11/2024 22:41

There are some even more powerful versions of OP's picture circulating in which everything apart from the student is in monochrome. I was only able to find this not-very-good one when I looked just now.

Yeah I remember that thread, I said then it was bollocks and I’ll say it now. Any leader the Ayatollahs permit is not going to be a expanding womens rights. I wish I had been wrong. Iranian women are incredibly brave.

pavementgerms · 04/11/2024 06:34

Very sadly, she is probably being tortured to death as we speak. How anyone could run a regime like that in the name of religion I will never know.

Westfacing · 04/11/2024 06:42

Poor girl, I hope she's going to be OK.

I think she just had enough after being harassed over a hijab and stripped-off in frustration.

That's quite an iconic picture of her sitting there, calmly awaiting the violence and abuse she knew would be coming her way.

OpalSpirit · 04/11/2024 06:57

if you watch the video, she stands and walks slowly around, she is calm and defiant and incredible.

I cannot imagine her bravery, really hope she is ok.
