At Tehran University.

Assaulted by morality police for 'improper hijab', the young woman stripped to her underwear. She was then arrested.

I hope very much that she's okay.

In the hope that international attention may help keep her safe, please spread the word.

What a brave young woman, I was also in awe of the young women cutting their hair in protest.I was surprised when that didn't become copied in support across the world.

An amazingly brave woman. I hope the international attention will help keep her (relatively) safe.

Any government that have morality police can fuck off.
And I'd lay money the morality police doesn't police all IE politicians and religious leaders.

Concern has grown over the whereabouts and welfare of the young woman, with activists worried authorities could confine her in a psychiatric institution. The statement from the Paris embassy described her as a mother of two children who was separated from her husband. "Once she has recovered she will resume her studies at the university. Although, of course, the final decision rests with the institutions concerned," the embassy said.

"She broke the norms, and her behaviour was not based on sharia, was immoral and uncustomary,"

"Those who republished this footage spread prostitution," said Simaei, adding such incidents "should not be encouraged as they are neither morally nor religiously justified."

Media outlets in Iran shared a blurred clip of the student.

Iranian women who resist wearing the hijab are to be given treatment at a specialist mental health clinic in Tehran.

The centre, called the Clinic for Quitting Hijab Removal, is the Islamic Republic’s latest attempt to quash female dissent that has swept the country since the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising in 2022.
Mehri Talebi Darestani, who will run the centre, said it “will be for the scientific and psychological treatment of removing the hijab, specifically for the teenage generation, young adults, and women seeking social and Islamic identity”.

She said the project is focused on promoting “dignity, modesty, chastity, and hijab” and claimed that attendance would be “optional”.

The clinic will be overseen by Iran’s Headquarters for Enjoining the Good and Forbidding the Evil, the government body responsible for enforcing strict religious standards across society.

The department is under sanctions by the UK and other countries for human rights abuses and its brutal sanctioning of women who do not adhere to Iran’s Islamic dress codes.

It is led by Mohammed Saleh Hashemi Golpayegani, who was directly appointed by supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

'An Iranian woman will not face charges after she stripped to her underwear in an apparent anti-hijab protest at a university in Tehran, Iranian authorities say.
Earlier in November, video went viral on social media capturing the moment the woman, named by BBC Persian as Ahoo Daryaei, undressed on a university campus before being forcibly detained.
A spokesperson for the Iranian judiciary said the woman had been treated in hospital and returned to her family.
Her detention drew international condemnation, with Amnesty International among those calling for her immediate and unconditional release.
"Considering that she was sent to the hospital, and it was found that she was ill, she was handed over to her family... and no judicial case has been filed against her," judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir said on Tuesday.'

I hope that report is accurate. I hope that she is safe.

I suspect that if the media had not got hold of this story she would not "have been found ill" but would by now be incarcerated. Sad

HerGorgeousMajestyArabellaScott · 19/11/2024 20:00

For sure. Which is why it's worth watching social media for stories like this, writing to embassies, making a noise when one can.
