Looks like a ban is coming - from Sharron Davis' Twitter

x.com/sharrond62/status/1844425633834647779?s=46&t=OD0tMok8rbGQj0XbFHZNfA

Certainly hope this is true. Am mildly amused at the wording though. She is male. Does that get around the silly press rules?

The source looks a bit dodgy unfortunately.

QAOPspaceman · 10/10/2024 19:19

Hope so but yeah, that's a dubious-looking website she's linking to

lcakethereforeIam · 10/10/2024 19:31

I've just googled Imane Khelif. Brought up this recent article in the DM on a report Reem Absalem has done for the UN

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/olympics/article-13932489/Sex-testing-Olympics-Imane-Khelif-United-Nations-IOC.html

Quoting from the report it also claims that

600 female athletes have lost out on 890 medals in 29 sports around the world due to competing against 'biological males'.

And a couple of USA Today fact checks from a week ago, headlines saying the medals haven't been stripped.

thedingledanglefamalam · 10/10/2024 20:09

That's a shocking statistic.

Helleofabore · 10/10/2024 20:13

I hope this is true.

Helleofabore · 10/10/2024 20:25

But it does look to be false.

Citrusandginger · 10/10/2024 20:33

I agree that the source doesn't look to be the best, but I do hope it's true and not wild speculation.

OP posts:
lcakethereforeIam · 10/10/2024 20:43

If it hasn't happened yet, I think it's only a matter of time. I don't think the medals necessarily will be taken though. Just to spare the IOCs blushes.

DuesToTheDirt · 10/10/2024 21:07

Caster Semanya has never had any medals taken back, has he? So I'm not holding my breath re the boxers.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 11/10/2024 00:18

To revoke the Olympic medals, I'm pretty sure there would have to be evidence that the IOC rules were broken. As the rules didn't ban men, proving they're men doesn't show there was any breach of the rules.

Christinapple · 11/10/2024 00:19

The claim made by Sharron Davies and her dodgy source (sports dot amazingtoday dot net) are false.

The "Official Twitter account of the World Boxing Organization (WBO)" confirmed the rumours are false. Khelif is not banned, has not had anything rescinded and the WBO "wish her luck" for the future.

itsmylife7 · 11/10/2024 00:27

That article maybe "false" but it's true he's a cheating man.

Quotation marks not needed.

Sharron Davies has made false claims.

eatfigs · 11/10/2024 00:48

Bit awkward, getting taken in by that fake news article.

eatfigs · 11/10/2024 00:48

Bit awkward, getting taken in by that fake news article.

As opposed to getting taken in by doctored paperwork. Or the idea that saying some words changes your sex. Now THAT would be daft.

lcakethereforeIam · 11/10/2024 07:11

Imagine she'd posted something completely batshit like, ooh, women can have a penis, or men can give birth!

Azertyuio123 · 11/10/2024 07:22

Genuine question: why are you so bothered?

lcakethereforeIam · 11/10/2024 07:30

Who are you addressing your question to?

Helleofabore · 11/10/2024 07:34

Azertyuio123 · 11/10/2024 07:22

Genuine question: why are you so bothered?

Why are we bothered by a male athlete punching female athletes in the face when it is likely that male has punching power of 160+% than the female athletes?

That power that is enough to cause greater life shortening injuries than other competitors? And to mean that female competitors don’t have fair competition and the ability to be recognised for their skill?

Is that what you meant with your question?

Igmum · 11/10/2024 07:42

Sadly it doesn't seem to be true. 600 women lose out on 890 medals still.

Datun · 11/10/2024 07:45

Helleofabore · 11/10/2024 07:45

So which is it?

The WBO should not be trusted when they say that Khelif is male?

Or WBO now miraculously should be trusted because they confirm that the report was false?

Or the WBO can be trusted with the accuracy of both statements?

I mean, I believe the WBO to be reliable in both statements they have made about this athlete. So I am going for the third option.

But only a short time ago there were many posters declaring the WBO was just as corrupt as the IBO, that they should never be trusted because they made a statement confirming that Khelif is a male during the Olympics. It kind of made some arguments lose their consistency.

Datun · 11/10/2024 07:49

There are loads of fake reports across social media that Khalif has been banned.

However these things work, there's clearly an interest in that happening.

That's an interesting way of looking at it. Hadn't thought of that.

Still letting male people beat up female people as a sport then.
