Looks like a ban is coming - from Sharron Davis' Twitter

Certainly hope this is true. Am mildly amused at the wording though. She is male. Does that get around the silly press rules?

Genuine question: why are you so bothered?

Genuine question: why aren't you bothered?

Yes it's just a matter of time as the evidence mounts.

SJSU’s male player, Blaire Fleming blasts another strike to the face of a female opponent in tonight’s match.

Abot 17 cm, or 6.7 inches, difference in vertical jump between college age men and women. Coincidentally, the net in men’s volleyball is 7 inches higher than in women’s.

Things that make you go “hmmm”

I became a bit of an expert on amateur boxing/IK/chromosomes etc during the OlympicsGrin
I've forgotten lots of the detail, but I think this is true:

  1. the WBO has already banned IK from women's boxing competitions that it controls because of two failed tests.
  2. the WBO has no power to rescind Olympic medals.
  3. the Olympics had their own eligibility rules for women's boxing, and IK qualified under those 'rules' at the time ['does your passport say you're a woman? in that case, box away, Madame..'] so they couldn't taken his medal away, it wouldn't be ...I was going to say 'fair', but you know what I mean - he was eligible at the time and he still has 'F' on his passport, so his Olympic eligibility hasn't changed at all.

So that's that😐

Is Fleming the player who's already left 1 of his opponents with paralysis and permanent brain damage or yet another man who likes hitting women in the head?

It was the IBA, rather than the WBO. But otherwise yes.

Oh right... thanks, NoBinturongsHereMate, I told you the details had got a bit hazy since the Olympic flame was put outSmile

https://www.bbc.com/sport/boxing/articles/cdjep0y1m0wo

Update, the BBC has posted an article today confirming the rumours are false.

"Imane Khelif has always competed in the women's division and is recognised by the IOC as a female athlete.

The World Boxing Organisation (WBO) says reports it has banned Olympic champion Imane Khelif and stripped her of her Paris gold medal for failing gender eligibility tests are "obviously false".

A report from an online sports blog was being shared on social media after claiming Khelif had been given a lifetime ban.

In a statement, the WBO's legal counsel Gustavo Olivieri said it had "not tested, nor had it banned" Khelif..."

happydappy2 · 12/10/2024 17:28

The IOC& WBO really need to sort this mess out-we can't got forward with males beating up women, in the womens category....thats just madness

MarieDeGournay · 12/10/2024 17:45

While everybody else was blaming the far right/GC activists/the Kremlin/whoever for the controversy around Khélif at the Olympics, it was widely believed in Algeria that the controversy was orchestrated by Morocco, part of the bad relations between those two countries.
Maybe this fake news is part of the Moroccan campaign - if the existence of the campaign isn't fake news itself, of course!

maltravers · 12/10/2024 19:26

I note the words “recognised by the IOC as a female athlete.”
as opposed to “is a female athlete”

Helleofabore · 12/10/2024 21:21

and is recognised by the IOC as a female athlete.

Again, the very carefully constructed wording here.

Recognised by the IOC as a female athlete. It does not say that the WBO recognises this athlete as a female athlete.

And Banned, well, Khelif would not be banned from competing as a male.
