Fantastic news!!! Thanks for sharing

WarriorN · 13/09/2024 16:28

“Today’s award of £90,000 represents a huge sum of money: 60% of the financial cost to me of bringing this case. I had to undertake a herculean fundraising campaign in order to achieve this and raid all my life’s savings besides.

To the elected officers and staff in charge of betraying the Green Party: your days are numbered. To the 60,000-strong membership: I urge you to take charge of the destiny of this party – now.

The Party is in total denial about the significance of this landmark case and its implications for party governance. The judgment, handed down on 9 February this year, could not have been more unequivocal:
By removing him as spokesperson in a procedurally unfair way, GPEx discriminated against Dr Ali because of his protected belief contrary to section 101 of the Equality Act.” (250)

“[H]e was dismissed for breaches of the Spokespeople Code of Conduct although GPEx failed to identify, consider, or make findings in relation to any such breaches.” (246)

“Dr Ali also seeks a declaration that he has been subjected to unlawful discrimination. I grant the declaration sought, although it does not obviate the need for damages.” (274)

Discrimination cases continue to be a very productive area for terven litigation.

I'm proud to feel part of this.

SpiderGwen · 13/09/2024 16:31

Between this and ERCC, it’s a good day.

PeachyKeane · 13/09/2024 16:33

Amazing, he's an incredible man. So nice to have decent upstanding men and women winning their cases.

Then you look at the other side and ......

AlisonDonut · 13/09/2024 16:33

I am very, very happy for him. And for the others who are also in the same situation with no fault suspensions on the go at the moment.

WarriorN · 13/09/2024 16:33

Emma's case is next. Equally as strong 💪 if not more so

Emma Bateman

Congratulations to @ShahrarAli on his win.
@TheGreenParty gender extremists, encouraged by leaders like @sianberry, @carla_denyer @ZackPolanski, have created a culture of hostility towards GC members.
There are more legal cases coming, including my own, which I will win.

Sometimes I love “The Law” and the legal system. It’s generally proving to be a wall of granite against this bullsh&t.

NumberTheory · 13/09/2024 17:26

This is great!

Does anyone have a link to the judgement? I was under the impression costs were rarely awarded, would love to see the judges reasoning.

Helleofabore · 13/09/2024 17:26

Thank you Warrior!!! Such great news.

Echo this. The house of Lords hasn't done a bad job either (which is a bit mindblowing)

PronounssheRa · 13/09/2024 17:37

Adults need to take control of the Green Party before they bankrupt themselves out of existence. They don't have the money to keep illegally discriminating

Really pleased for Shahrar

StickItInTheFamilyAlbum · 13/09/2024 17:49

I'm pleased.

At the same time, I'm annoyed at the failure of the awards to cover the costs of bringing the cases. (I know being awarded any costs is unusual .)

The costs of these victories to the people who are courageous enough to bring these actions is high, both for their emotional and financial resources.

MarieDeGournay · 13/09/2024 18:43

Congratulation to Shahrar Ali!
I think I'm justified in re-posting this image - it feels like a bit like this today, doesn't it?

IwantToRetire · 13/09/2024 20:06

Star - probably deserves more than one star!

Didn't someone start a thread to create a list of sucessful cases.

Both to celebrate and be a resouce?

If they did would be good to add this to it.

Dawn Bateman after Emma and more to come given they have been expelling people left and right.

BBC report is actually good covering implications which are big.

The council elections in May will need to be paid for if the Greens plan to run lots of candidates again.

Green Women's Declaration
@GWDeclaration
Just in case you missed it. Shahrar Ali awarded 60% costs, that is 90k for ALI vs GPEW. Time TheGreenParty
STOP denying he won his case and to STOP discriminating against its own members. It's a costly affair and it is against the LAW!

A handout picture of Sharar Ali wearing a blazer and t-shirt when he held his role as justice spokesperson for the Green Party.

Green Party ordered to pay £90k after losing gender critical case

The Green Party discriminated against Shahrar Ali during a row over his gender critical beliefs, a court ruled.

That is great news.Grin Thank you @WarriorN.Thanks

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/09/2024 20:21

Fantastic news! Very much downplayed by the Green Party to date from what I've seen, that's going to look increasingly hollow.

Fenlandia · 13/09/2024 20:24

Amazing, another win! Don't know about anyone else but I never thought my stream of donated tenners would be a part of some of the most important legal wins in recent UK history.

fromorbit · 13/09/2024 20:42

Shahrar is estimating the Green's own costs were at least 200,000 possibly significantly more. So with the pay out out to Shahrar sexism has cost the Greens £300,000+ so far.

The only way this could have gone worse for the Greens is if they had let Joylon get involved in their defence.

IwantToRetire · 13/09/2024 20:58

Might be for the wrong reason, but if the cost of supporting trans rights over women's rights makes some organisation re-consider their position, that's good.

But depresssing that so many groups never even considered that they were trampling on women's sex based rights.
