This is astounding.

BBC used paedophile chauffeur for 30 years

digitaleditions.telegraph.co.uk/data/1801/reader/reader.html?social#!preferred/0/package/1801/pub/1801/page/16/article/NaN

"THE BBC used chauffeurs convicted of paedophilia to transport celebrities and high-profile guests over almost 30 years, The Telegraph can reveal.
Niven Sinclair was paid millions of pounds to run a chauffeur service for the broadcaster from the late 1970s until at least 2006, despite being a paedophile – with convictions that included raping a child at gunpoint.
His firm was responsible for transporting celebrities including Jimmy Savile as well as ferrying guests including Ted Heath, the prime minister at the time, to and from BBC studios.
One of the drivers employed by Sinclair was David Smith, another convicted paedophile who went on to abuse at least two children at the BBC’s studios."

Bloody hell.

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 24/08/2024 15:55

Chauffeuring too. With a pass inside the BBC, surrounded by high profile people and power. The offending opportunities don't bear thinking about.

BBC chauffeur driving the under age girl to Russel Brand's house is also what sprang to mind but I don't know if the timings match up

What the utter fuck

2006 . So, yes, that potentially matches up.

'A woman named Alice alleged in an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour that a car provided by the BBC for Mr Brand collected her from school and took her to his house in 2006, when she was aged 16.
Now in her 30s, the woman claimed she used the broadcaster's cars on more than one occasion.
"He had a friend who was taking him to do his radio show so he said to me: ‘Oh, you get in the car and you go wherever you need to.’ So I took the BBC car that time.
“And on another occasion, it picked me up from school,” she said.
When asked what questions she would like the BBC to answer, Alice said she wants to know “why more wasn't done at the time" to protect young women.

Sinclair and Smith, the paedophile drivers, which sounds like a comedy duo or detective team.

Saville, obviously
Rolf Harris
Huw Edwards
Chris Denning The BBC go into graphic detail - ask yourselves why that is necessary?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30378371
Stuart Hall
Derek McCulloch, Head of childrens department?
Lionel Gamlin
Tim Westwood

I know there are many more but I have forgotten, so please feel free to add to the list.
Theres another well known DJ missing off it for starters
And the sick irony of 'Harriet Harman stating that the allegations "cast a stain" on the corporation. '
P.I.E. regigged as MAP and and our friend Peter Tatchell gracing screens on a regular basis.
And meanwhile outside the BBC in the plainest sight it could possibly be, and restored when a victim tried to remove the penis, that statue.
To remind you Eric Gill raped his daughters siblings and his pet dog.
There have been several attempts to separate this piece from the artist proclotivities by men, but Im not having it.

Their history, their choice of subject matter and their ongoing attachment to the sculpture, is at best, unbelievably tasteless and grostesque.

Frankly its birds of a feather flocking.

I stopped paying the license fee after the way they covered up Saville,
I confess I was shocked that everyone didnt en masse.

They getaway with it, because simply in the end, we enable it.
Got to have our entertainment, no matter the cost

Chris Denning victim: 'He seemed quite proud of abuse'

One of Chris Denning's victims recounts the night he was sexually assaulted after being offered a lift by the former BBC DJ.

At this point, surely there needs to be a public enquiry into the BBC and links to abuse and abusers?

Lisa Nandy, what do you say?

Dont you remember the one in 2012?
But I agree a larger much more thorough one is needed. With unimpeachable sources investigating

How do these people find each other? Especially pre-internet? Perhaps everyone knew the Beeb was a safe space for paedos?

Omlettes · 24/08/2024 16:48

I know who I forgot from my earlier list.
John Peel famous BBC DJ

My dad used to take me to swim and Dolphin Square as a kid.
That was a famous place....

But yes old boy networks, private clubs, sharing contacts.
Pre internet everybody could still find everybody in their area of interest, in some ways more easily.

Absolutely awful. But what all these terrible incidents have in common is men abusing their power. All large organisations with hierarchies have allowed this to occur. There needs to be a massive paradigm shift in the way men operate within organisations.

I am really wary of these cases being used as a way to dismantle the BBC rather than tackling misogyny as a whole. It’s really notable that the Murdoch press and other right wing commentators jump on this and create headlines placing the BBC front and centre. British people have no idea how precious the BBC is. It is the last respected British institution by the world and it is being deliberately attacked for business reasons. It’s really not in the name of protection of women.

Name and shame all the men who did this and speak out about misogyny but be careful before you go along with destroying a broadcasting service which is by no means perfect but the last good thing we have. First they came for the NHS and then the BBC.

I dont see how we can tackle it as a whole without calling out where it is institutionalised. Thats impossible.
the BBC is rotten to the core and represents so much of English culture.
The people actually in the institution have normalised and protected it for years.

'The last good thing we have', thats a mad justification!

I was knee deep in toddlers and babies at the time, so no, no recollection of fucking anything much!

LizzieSiddal · 24/08/2024 17:26

I firmly believe there should be an inquiry into the BBc and their lack of safeguarding. It is not confined to pedophiles, remember all the CBBC programmes promoting Mermaids and giving out misleading info to children about puberty blockers? Women made complaints and absolutely none of these were listened to.
Recently we’ve had the Strictly Come Dancing abuse of women. Zara was spat and kicked by her dance partner and she was too afraid to complain due to how Amanda Abingdon was treated by the BBC. I know someone who worked on Stricly and they say it was well known for years that Giovani could be horrible to his women partners and mangers did nothing.

We’ve also just had the Huw Edwards incidents!

It’s an utter disgrace that absolutely nobody in BBC management is ever made to be accountable. They do not value or care about women and children.

WarriorN · 24/08/2024 17:31

I agree, an inquiry is desperately needed.

duc748 · 24/08/2024 17:33

Then there were the large pay issue discrepancies between men and women broadcasters etc.

The BBC may be sexist, is that what we need an enquiry into?

Let's ask all the Directors General ...

the boundary pushing chat as savile did with Theroux as a child crossed the road in front of them ooh I think I’ve just seen my wife to be to test the waters with another man was one way

PIE was integral to connecting them between 1974-1984 look up Peter Righton social work expert and prison volunteer - they’d go in and befriend convicted paedophiles to get new members and grow their number - a boarding school master or residential care worker was top of the pile in terms of supply and access for themselves and others

also pre internet one way of grooming kids and connecting adult groomers with them was CB radio - lots of taxi drivers convicted which I’ve always wondered about the link between CB radio and taxi work

Peter Righton and members of PIE established the first gay youth group in Islington - they want young people questioning sexuality because gives them an in to start discussing it with them - see LGBT youth Scotland and Rennie and now others
