’She’s getting desperate…’ (both the TW and Bridget it seems).

Well done Nick Ferrari, much more of this from other journalists would be great. He just showed up how utterly ludicrous Labours ‘position’ on this is.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 27/06/2024 15:37

Interesting use of language from her - not a pronoun in sight, all 'this person'.

And I wonder where the 'this transwoman of ... actually it's not clear' was going before she cut herself off. Has she heard the 'Transwomen of colour [invented everything]' catchphrase so often that it's got stuck.

SamW98 · 27/06/2024 15:40

Well done to Nick for keeping on while she did everything to weasel out of actually giving an answer.

We absolutely need more people in the media shining a light on labours complete and utter word salad of nonsense.

Runor · 27/06/2024 15:43

i hope everyone who plans to support Labour, because they’ll actually support women’s rights will watch this - and anyway, it’s bloody hilarious!

Bluemincat · 27/06/2024 15:45

So she still didn't answer the question after all of those weasely words.

UtopiaPlanitia · 27/06/2024 15:52

What’s the 'extensive process' that Phillipson is always referring too? Does she mean genital and facial surgery? Is this her criteria for men to be able to use women’s toilets? Is Phillipson still thinking that all men who apply for and get a GRC have had genital surgery? She’s clear as mud on this issue.

Runor · 27/06/2024 15:52

And that’s gonna be great for schools….. no?

Floisme · 27/06/2024 15:56

I'm sure I'd been given to understand that Bridget Phillipson was something of an undercover GC ally - clearly no Rosie Duffield but nevertheless someone who was quietly on our side..

Can anyone imagine her standing up for us when the Labour whip comes knocking?

BeRealOrca · 27/06/2024 16:06

Did anyone else listening to that shout "answer the f*ing" question. So frustrating, scared of annoying either side. This is what is really frustrating me with Labour. You might not like Tory's policies, but at least you know where you stand on most points. I've been a Labour supporter all my life and now the time has come around I feel so let down by them. Women are entitled to safe spaces and as much we I despise the Torys, I wouldn't want my two DDs anxious about going to the loo in public.

WickedSerious · 27/06/2024 16:09

He'd get more sense out of a ten week old tomato plant.

I'll just drop this new survey commissioned by The News Agents Podcast released this morning here.

I also thought she was going to say transwoman of colour

I see they didn’t ask people whether politicians were talking enough/too much about women’s rights

teawamutu · 27/06/2024 16:30

She was bloody hopeless. I am now also feeling pretty hopeless.

Trying to take comfort in the possibly vain hope that if Labour are that desperate not to say a man with a piece of paper should use the Ladies, they're unlikely to be that aggressive about insisting on it post-GE. They know how the public feel.

Yeah, when people understand how the ‘trans debate’ actually affects women, they tend to be far more interested. As Nicola Sturgeon found out!

Runor · 27/06/2024 16:34

teawamutu, I suppose it depends on whose votes they need now (51% v 0.1%) ie who are they hiding from?

I really wanted to vote Labour, but my local candidate is very clear about ‘rights-hoarding dinosaurs’, so 🤷‍♀️

I agree. The Trans Debate is talked about too much.

Did they even ask about Women's rights?

Datun · 27/06/2024 16:41

Fucking hell, that's difficult to believe.

Although, she wants people to provide a range of options. She's veering towards a third space.

ArabellaScott · 27/06/2024 16:51

Third space, great in theory. The country is not, cannot, spend billions of pounds on 'third spaces' to appease a tiny proportion of confused men.

Use the gents.

theilltemperedclavecinist · 27/06/2024 17:02

She's got big 'hostage video' energy, hasn't she?

Also, why are Starmer and Phillipson so woefully underbriefed on this? I really feel as though almost anyone on this board could have argued more persuasively, even though they'd be playing devil's advocate.

ETA SNP guy was on Woman's Hour today, and he obviously understood that the law allows for genuine sex-segregation, but it doesn't happen in practice: he promised to address it. Has Starmer even said that?

WinterTrees · 27/06/2024 17:18

She clearly wants to pass this particular bomb to businesses to deal with.

It's far too difficult for the party that are going to imminently be forming a government, but hopefully the branch manager of a small provincial McDonalds will know how to handle it.

Today they need as many votes as possible. Next Friday morning, not so much. See how much they care about what the public wants then.

viques · 27/06/2024 17:22

We all know which toilet this mythical person will choose though don’t we, because when it comes to dignity and respect it is abundantly clear that women’s need for dignity and respect is written in teeny tiny letters on the back of a stamp whereas if you are a trans person in need of a quick wee your need for dignity and respect is written on the side of an open top bus with flashing neon lights and a military brass band playing Donna Summer and Cher anthems. And now we know why because according to Phillipson becoming a trans person involves such:a long and difficult process that they deserve it.

Has Phillipson forgotten what a long and difficult process actually being a woman is?

They’re trying not to lose the election so they’re staying vague on purpose in order not to frighten the voters. Once they’re in 10 Downing St, all bets are off 🤷‍♀️

... which is why I keep thinking the voters need a 'cooling off period'. When we see what they're really intending to do, we should be able to reject them.
