’She’s getting desperate…’ (both the TW and Bridget it seems).

She's got big 'hostage video' energy, hasn't she?

Also, why are Starmer and Phillipson so woefully underbriefed on this? I really feel as though almost anyone on this board could have argued more persuasively, even though they'd be playing devil's advocate.

ETA SNP guy was on Woman's Hour today, and he obviously understood that the law allows for genuine sex-segregation, but it doesn't happen in practice: he promised to address it. Has Starmer even said that?

Edited

Starmer mentioned single-sex exemptions last night during the debate and he said organisations use them already so there’s no problem with the existing law. He also said he’s seen mixed-sex refuges and other women only spaces that allow men and these spaces worked brilliantly so he knows there’s no problem with existing legislation. He also told voters to read the legislation to see the exceptions for themselves.

I guess in her defence, at least she didn't resort to: 'toxic', 'culture war', 'more light less heat', 'both sides', 'fabricated', or 'distraction'. That does give her the edge over her leader and most of her colleagues.

But if she really is supposed to be one of GC women's secret weapons then I fear the worst.

This was incredible. He is massively behind on the detail of this

UtopiaPlanitia · 27/06/2024 18:15

Eastern, I’m not lying when I tell you my jaw literally dropped open in shock when I heard him saying this stuff. And he sounded really tetchy when saying it too - like he always does when the issue of sex-based rights comes up.

Morwenscapacioussleeves · 27/06/2024 19:57

Christ on a bike that was pathetic

ArabellaScott · 27/06/2024 20:28

Helen Joyce is right, the biggest problem with this issue for politicians is that it makes them look stupid.

Midgegreenstreet · 27/06/2024 21:04

Heavens above if they can't make a decision about which loo to use how the hell are they going to cope with defence decisions if the country's under threat?

NoBinturongsHereMate · 27/06/2024 21:24

He's annoyed at being made to waste time on silly women's things. Why can't they ask him important men's questions? He's said he'll sort it out, and that should be that - not all these picking over trivial details like 'how?'.

We'll all have to line up and fart in the enemy's general direction.

What’s the 'extensive process' that Phillipson is always referring too? Does she mean genital and facial surgery? Is this her criteria for men to be able to use women’s toilets? Is Phillipson still thinking that all men who apply for and get a GRC have had genital surgery? She’s clear as mud on this issue.

The extensive process they are going to bin.

That extensive process.

PepeParapluie · 27/06/2024 22:14

This is absolutely pathetic, but on the bright side between this and the David Tennant thing, this whole issue is getting more sunlight and I’ve had a few conversations with people who don’t normally talk about this topic and I think it’s likely to peak quite a few people. It just shows the ridiculousness of it all when she can’t answer a simple question despite apparently having the party view that we all just need to be nice to each other. Well guess what, that’s not actually an answer and doesn’t help anyone in reality. Who’d have thunk it 🙄

I'll just drop this new survey commissioned by The News Agents Podcast released this morning here.

Is that 49 percent for mental health? Absolutely, should be dealing with the mental health of men instead of giving them lady tickets. We agree.

ArabellaScott · 27/06/2024 16:51

Third space, great in theory. The country is not, cannot, spend billions of pounds on 'third spaces' to appease a tiny proportion of confused men.

Use the gents.

Are there statistics about transwomen being attacked in the Gents’?

ScrollingLeaves · 27/06/2024 22:31

It is also not just about lavatories. That is just a test to see what the first premise is.

I appreciate that this isn't helpful in any way but the thread title has me picturing the pair of them sitting in adjacent cubicles and talking through the wall.
