But even if not. Anyone can make a report. About anything that they perceive as a hate crime

<misses point of thread>

Why are Gene Wilder and Ipswich trending?

I wondered that too.

This is a remarkably nearly-balanced piece from the BBC they've had the lawyers in

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c51j64lk2l8o

I'll be interested to see their misogyny law, if it ever comes into being.

Because surely they'll have to be able to define what a "woman" is.

I mean, you can have a vague and wooly definition of "transgender", because it apparently just means giving yourself pronouns, and possibly wearing a cheap nylon wig, but "woman" is - in most people's minds - pretty specific. Perhaps they'll be forced to find the elusive definition that we've been asking for for years . . .

Sorry to be a pedant, but hasn’t Random Man misspelled ‘canon’ in that context?

As in, it should be ‘canon’ not cannon.

I assumed that he meant she was shooting the balls off IW and Co., one bollock at a time.

Edit for spelling

Ipswich - sportsball. A non-women's team playing, dunno, another non-women's team.

Gene Wilder - no idea

My best guess is Gene Wilder is something to do with a Wonka discussion.

LarkLane · 01/04/2024 21:21

Perhaps Gene Wilder's spirit was at the match.

Who does this woman think she is!

I know!

You let them have a pair of shoes, and the next thing you know they've nipped out of the kitchen and are voicing their opinions!

NeedToChangeName · 01/04/2024 21:26

queenrowling · 01/04/2024 19:37

that's Scottish law, right? Not applicable in the UK? Or is it? Confused.

@queenrowling this legislation is for Scotland only

Some legislation is for whole of UK, or just Scotland, or just other parts of UK

FlirtsWithRhinos · 01/04/2024 21:27

So the only women who gain protection as women under this new law are male? Well that's not fucked up sexist bullshit in the slightest.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/04/2024 21:29

Remember that Labour have said they want to bring in a similar law for the rest of us, so get writing to your MP of whatever party, and any other candidates and especially the Police and Crime Commissioner candidates.

Karensalright · 01/04/2024 21:31

@NeedToChangeName you are wrong if you go back post, you would know. The Scottish law is clear that if something published is READ IN SCOTLAND BY SOMEBODY IT IS AN OFFENCE.

Emotionalsupportviper · 01/04/2024 21:31

littlbrowndog · 01/04/2024 21:10

Massage them fingers - police Scotland reported to themselves

Yeeeeeee - Ha!

Edited to add gif bur it won't let me on an edit.

dapsnotplimsolls · 01/04/2024 21:31

The original Willy Wonka film was on telly earlier. I assume that's why Gene Wilder is trending.

ApocalipstickNow · 01/04/2024 21:17

I wondered that too.

I wondered who Bethany is, but apparently it has something to do with Corrie

“WILLY WONKA” troubled me always

KellieJaysLapdog · 01/04/2024 21:33

Super late to the thread but I really hope JK is arrested and uses it as a modern day Suffragette moment (and that she collects some important stories from incarcerated women and gives them a voice).

Oh no don't worry if an actual woman is mistaken for a transwoman & people say mean things because of it THEN the actual woman is protected 🙄 (Humza himself made this point at Holyrood IIRC)

Pop me on the indecent list Jo. Sorry not on X so I can't sign up there.

IcakethereforeIam · 01/04/2024 21:35

'You don't speak for decent women'!? Is that a twiX from the 18th Century?

Given the amount of stuff she has tweeted today, and the amount of people she has wound up into a frenzy if they don't arrest her they can't arrest any of us!

@Karensalright yes this legislation only applies in Scotland, unlike some other legislation

Karensalright · 01/04/2024 21:37

@KellieJaysLapdog i think it apparent that is her plan, but i suspect she has her legal team at the ready.
