Thirty Three Labour student societies are attacking Rosie and Tonia for being pro-women and accusing them and the Labour leadership of "Nazi Revisionism". Read this Labour list article for details and to see the student release. "Revisionism of Nazi atrocities has no place in Labour"

https://labourlist.org/2024/01/rosie-duffield-investigation-allegations-transphobia-antisemitism-university-labour-clubs/

This puts Starmer and the Labour leadership in a bind will they openly support Rosie and Tonia who are basically just saying standard Labour policy? Will they rebuke the societies concerned? How can you go into an election with your student section claiming that the Labour party hierarchy are bigots and are Nazi revisionists?

This could also impact the Welsh leadership election Cardiff, Swansea, Aberystwyth Labour student socs have all signed and they are claiming one of the leading Labour Welsh MPs is a a "transphobe" because she dislikes porn and for saying women's sport is important.

Get the biscuits in folks.

Just a bunch of hot under the collar teenagers who (if they are not already) ought to be members of the SWP.

Of no real consequence.

fedupandstuck · 11/01/2024 14:33

Their statement contains no substance, just a repeat of the incorrect interpretation and allegation based on that one "like" of a satirical tweet by Linehan, that has already been considered and rejected by the NEC. So, just a toys out of the pram moment from these student groups.

No they are not objecting to them being Pro-Women. Lols. Far from it. They object to their anti-inclusive stances. And that folks, is what a democracy is about....

It's great to see the young folks come up and bring in the change that the older generations are pearl clutching over.

It is the natural cause of things. I think it's awesome.

Liking posts that Eddie Izzard would have been safe under a Nazi Regime, is just ridiculous. Rosie is being called out for that. If Stammer had backbone he may do something as well. But unlikely.

It's a beautiful thing to watch. Getting the popcorn out.

Indeed. But it is useful sunlight to see facts, reality and the expectation that women are a distinct sex class being dismissed like this. It will force Starmer into a place he really doesn't want to be. Either defending his laughable "don't talk about only women having a cervix" and his "1% of women with a penis" or having to admit that safety, safeguarding children and science, facts and reality must be respected in society.
I say let them have at it - see where their breaking down of the social contract leads them.

Rainbowshit · 11/01/2024 15:06

I would have thought that the Rachel Meade decision would have strengthened Rosie and Tonia's positions.

The kids can stamp their feet and wail all they like. They are going to have to accept at some point that just because they say something is transphobic doesn't mean it is when looked at objectively.

WinterTrees · 11/01/2024 15:06

Thanks for the background recap. Can you explain why it's ridiculous? Izzard is a white, non-Jewish, non-Roma, non-disabled heterosexual cross-dressing male, what are people claiming the Nazis would have targeted him for?

WickedSerious · 11/01/2024 15:07

'Nazi revisionism'.🙄

Silly little buggers.

duc748 · 11/01/2024 15:18

Do we know for certain that this 'antisemitism investigation' was solely about liking glinner's tweet (which is absolutely ridiculous, of course) and and nothing else?

Mishy doesn't explain, he just asserts. Evidence is for bigots.

PotteringPondering · 11/01/2024 15:47

Some have said this is just stroppy teenagers and hot-under-the-collar students being melodramatic, and their views doesn't reflect party policy.

Fair enough. But it gives a window into the views of young people in the Party.

And young people in the Party will be the future intake of researchers, councillors and MPs.

So their statements will affect my vote. I was starting to think Starmer is managing an 'only adult in the room' stance more grown up than the Green and Lib Dem histrionics around gender.

Thanks, Labour Students. You've disabused me of that.

Although the groups are affiliated to the party, you don't have to be a member to join a group

No point in waiting for a reply then? That's disappointing.

I'm sure we've all seen the famous cache of photos of cross dressing senior Nazis. (I'm guessing that's what Glinner was referring to in the original tweet.) Izzard certainly wouldn't have been unsafe on that score, so it's all rather confusing. I was hoping that Mishy could enlighten us!

RebelliousCow · 11/01/2024 16:15

I'm not sure about " Nazi Revisionism" but what does spring to mind is the Hilter Youth.

^^

fedupandstuck · 11/01/2024 16:17

Oh, Labour wouldn't have been getting my vote anyway, and this latest "statement" does nothing to change that position.

keylemon · 11/01/2024 16:22

I bet is the same bunch chanting anti semitic slogans. Yet they called Nazi to whoever does not agree with them.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 11/01/2024 16:24

There's just been a (now deleted) thread on AIBU in which a trans activism supporting poster resorted to agism; nothing particularly exciting, if you missed it though. The poster stated that they were looking forward to seeing 'terfs' die out like the dinosaurs. Plot-twist? The poster was literally old enough to be one of my parents. Grin

I imagine it's the same on this thread, too.

Rosie's statement makes it clear that was what it was about strange as it sounds:
https://twitter.com/RosieDuffield1/status/1742921948261454163?

It was never going to go anywhere, but the party is understandably paranoid about such matters so AS complaints get careful examination. As the Labourlist report noted accusing Rosie is a weird take given her strong position on antisemitism in the party over many years.

Worth remembering Tonia and Rosie would both have probably been arrested by the Nazis because they are elected left wing officials and trade unionists if they didn't flee the country.

The Nazis arrested those prominent in socialist parties and trade unions early on in their dictatorship even before directly targeting Jews, and gay people though obviously some targets were in multiple categories.

Many left wing German women and lesbians ended up in Ravensbruck and were murdered.

Political Prisoners

Hitler's political opponents were the first victims of systematic Nazi persecution. They were incarcerated without trial and under conditions of great cruelty.

if Keir Starmer wants to show he’s on the side of women he will discipline these people for misogynistic bullying. But he won’t. He’s perfectly happy for women in his party to be harassed on the grounds of their perfectly reasonable beliefs.

he’s weak and a coward.

  1. The thing about young people, is that they quite quickly become older people. The 'pearl clutching' older generations you refer to brought us the sexual revolution, legal abortion, civil rights, antiwar riots, first and second Summers of Love, women's rights and gay equality.
  2. The privileged middle class university cohorts that populate Labour Students are in no way representative of most young people.

There’s nothing democratic about forcing the belief that men can magically become women down people’s throats.
Also there are many many young people who also know GI ideology is nonsense. It’s not just us old ‘Pearl clutchers’ you know.

LentilFaculties · 11/01/2024 16:49

Further dismantling safeguarding will result in more traumatised girls and young women who are extremely likely to become the "TERF"s of tomorrow.

If Mishy & co really hope that one day women won't care whether the people sharing their and their daughters' spaces have a dick or not, I suggest Mishy & co campaign to stop male pattern violence.

You first lads: show us you can treat us like we're human, then we'll consider whether we want to treat you like you're not a threat.

stomachameleon · 11/01/2024 17:21

@fromorbit I don't know if you have seen it but I watched a brilliant programme on BBC 4 storyville called Nelly and Nadine. It is amazing. About Ravensbruck and two women who feel in love there. One was the daughter of the Chinese ambassador.

Hang on, Mishi had specifically made the point that they were pro inclusivity so they obviously weren’t being discriminatory.

you’re probably just too old to understand them.
