Singer-songwriter Louise Distras and her cancellation - interview

flyingbuttress43 · 10/01/2024 16:14

It's an hour long but an excoriating condemnation of the captured music industry and how it set out to deprive Louise Distras of her livelihood for her GC beliefs - simply for her comment that trans women are not women.

Watch the whole interview for context, but she sums it up.."I think it [cancel culture] is an attempt at murder for people who are so pyschologically and spiritually bankrupt that they welcome this totalianarianism with open arms to fill the void. I see them as people who will do anything to project their fears and anxieties onto other people, whether that's me or someone else and then they move on to someone else.

"They are cowardly in the way that they do it - it's like they haven't got the balls to just go out and straight kill somebody so what they do is destroy their reputation, take away their income, their roof, their food....I often get told I should starve and I should be out on the street, or I should be in prison or I should be dead because that's what I deserve because that's the consequence of my actions."

She is quite amusing though as well. Billy Bragg, who she said once admired her music and invited her to Glastonbury, turned on her because she is GC and "put a target on my back": she described him as "a weird doppelganger of Jeremy Corbyn."

We're back on the topic of Gender Critical, trans, gender and J K Rowling with Louise Distras, a punk singer who is supposed to rage against the machine. But...

Andrew Gold spoke on one of his podcasts about trying to get a documentary sold to the BBC or Ch 4 or similar and said it was just impossible as they only seemed interested in diversity targets behind the scenes so I can well believe that it’s similar in the music industry.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 10/01/2024 22:56

It’s always a pleasure watching men with platforms peak in real time.

gold is “getting” it, just like the trigger pod lads did

To have your career and reputation destroyed you have to have a career and reputation in the first place really.

TheSlantedOwl · 10/01/2024 23:26

Hmmm so she doesn’t matter because she’s not a big enough star, Hex?

She’s a creator who’s being targeted and penalised for telling the truth. That should be enough to make this a worthwhile story to tell.

Exactly. She had an income through Band Camp that she's lost.

Have you sung at Glastonbury, and toured with bands that are household names? I haven’t either, so I have no reputation to lose. Louise Distras, on the other hand …

Big Yawn. She should own what she expresses and believes in. If her fans really loved her music and words they would continue to support her and the GC's would be all in buying it to keep her well afloat.

Claiming to be cancelled and going on a national speakers tour or front pages of the press, seem to be a good promotion vehicle.

Don't buy it. Moving on....

fedupandstuck · 11/01/2024 14:37

Such a stupid argument, this idea that because she is able to speak up about what happened, that there is no problem and she has not been affected by the actions of others. Of course she's been affected, due to the actions of other people who don't like her opinions. It's really that simple.

JoodyBlue · 11/01/2024 17:52

It's a great interview. Andrew Gold is doing good work and Louise speaks so well. Her music is awesome. Well worth a listen. In particular her song - The Hand you Hold - which she says was inspired by Anne Scargill. An anthem for women. Great stuff.

Off you fuck then Mishy 😂

Loopytiles · 11/01/2024 18:36

don’t her comparisons between lobbying for ‘cancellation’ to physical violence / murder.

Listened to a v interesting podcast about the dixie chicks, who it argued were cancelled and experienced severe economic impact, presenters said it was for things one of them said publicly at a gig about the gulf war.

See ya then.
Hopefully not though.

That is uncalled for.

Timefortea4 · 15/01/2024 22:19

I watched this tonight. I'm at the point where I think I won't be shocked, and then I am again. Huge respect to Louise. But terrible to see someone who has survived so much being targeted in this way.

UtopiaPlanitia · 15/01/2024 23:38

Louise is an indomitable spirit; some people have so much shite landing in their lives and they fight it rather than collapsing under it - I admire her for her tenacity.

I love her song 'Stand Strong Together'.

Judellie · 05/05/2024 14:29

Was there ever any update on this? I gave up on Twitter/X and not keen on going back there but i can't see anything anywhere else?

Delphin · 06/05/2024 06:49

"She should own what she expresses and believes in."

Apparently it has become necessary to put a command of silence into the rules of one's private SM groups. Otherwise one's "friends" will sell one out to the bloodhounds.

Well, you would say that wouldn't you? It's because you're such a plonker.

She's lost gigs and income over this, because of illegal discrimination against her.

I'm in court this week and facing up to 5 years in prison for my words at the Let Women Speak event in Leeds on 18 November 2023. My speech is publicly available for all to see

My goodness! It’s hard to believe the capture that has allowed a woman stating the truth to be facing 5 years jail… Dystopian indeed.

BettyBooper · 23/06/2025 11:00

What??! This is outrageous! I hope this gets picked up by the press.

lcakethereforeIam · 23/06/2025 11:04

So she was cleared of the first allegations in May 2024 but she's being prosecuted now! Does anyone know what she's been charged with. If she's facing jail time it must be a criminal charge.

womanbornn · 23/06/2025 11:13

what the hell happened? 5 years in prison possibly? For what? Need more information. This is horrific. I saw the speech and didn’t see any law breaking.

CassOle · 23/06/2025 11:21

Are one of the people or groups that she mentioned trying to sue her for slander?

This whole thing is madness. Poor Louise, I hope she is successful in her defence.
