Singer-songwriter Louise Distras and her cancellation - interview

It's an hour long but an excoriating condemnation of the captured music industry and how it set out to deprive Louise Distras of her livelihood for her GC beliefs - simply for her comment that trans women are not women.

Watch the whole interview for context, but she sums it up.."I think it [cancel culture] is an attempt at murder for people who are so pyschologically and spiritually bankrupt that they welcome this totalianarianism with open arms to fill the void. I see them as people who will do anything to project their fears and anxieties onto other people, whether that's me or someone else and then they move on to someone else.

"They are cowardly in the way that they do it - it's like they haven't got the balls to just go out and straight kill somebody so what they do is destroy their reputation, take away their income, their roof, their food....I often get told I should starve and I should be out on the street, or I should be in prison or I should be dead because that's what I deserve because that's the consequence of my actions."

She is quite amusing though as well. Billy Bragg, who she said once admired her music and invited her to Glastonbury, turned on her because she is GC and "put a target on my back": she described him as "a weird doppelganger of Jeremy Corbyn."

We're back on the topic of Gender Critical, trans, gender and J K Rowling with Louise Distras, a punk singer who is supposed to rage against the machine. But...

If you find the link to her Substack article it explains the history of the situation and that she has been charged with allegedly breaching a non-molestation order, which can carry a prison sentence of up to 5 years.

Thanks for that link fedup.

Pudmyboy · 23/06/2025 17:01

Is that a link a way to donate money to help with fees and costs?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/06/2025 17:03

I hope she's got good legal support - it all seems dystopian reading her article - and a depressingly familiar story for so many women.

RoyalCorgi · 23/06/2025 17:07

It's always West Yorkshire Police, isn't it.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 23/06/2025 18:33

Do we know who it is that's harassing her? Is it a lawyer who likes to golf?

spannasaurus · 23/06/2025 18:45

In her LWS speech she says that she had to take an injuction out against her brother and her substack seems to suggest that the person she had an injuction against is the same person who contained a non molestation order against her.

Not to derail, Moto that one might deserve its own thread. An entire stage for female (‘identifying’) talent who have to play for free and do lengthy unpaid bar shifts just to get on the bill?

Yet Fatboy Slim’s son Woody Cook (‘who identifies as a man’, the Indy sees need to clarify) is on the same stage? Can’t see him getting stuck pulling pints somehow.

All the best to Louise. What she’s had to put up with really stinks.

moto748e · 23/06/2025 23:56

It does. That's showbiz these days, sadly.

I'm guessing the Non-molestation Order was taken out by her brother, and she mentioned him in the speech. I'm guessing she mentioned it in the space on X too.

She has written on X she plead Not Guilty and has a court date for next month. I don't know why she is being so vague about it but it's so disingenuous that she has no idea why she is there. I think she is stringing it out for publicity.

It all seems really iffy to me. Like her last court case she crowdfunded for. I donated under basically false pretences. She never was clear about why she was there and I think if she had she wouldn't of got the donations she did. I can't be the only one who believed I was helping out a woman that was being taken to court for something that it wasn't. There was 0 transparency and yes it was the family court but she painted it as something different.

She is in court for breeching a non-molestation order. Putting the pieces together, she spoke about her brother, which breeched it.

For some reason though she isn't being upfront and posting it as if she is up in court but has no idea of why, and neither does her lawyer. Until today. But still she is playing like she doesn't know.
Odd bizarre behaviour. Well not really bizarre it got reshares from some big accounts like Glinner and Tommy Robinson. But the truth will come out so it's shooting yourself in the foot, like being deliberately dishonest.
