The complaints made to the Labour Party about Rosie Duffield for her "antisemitism" and "transphobia" have been dismissed by the National Executive Committee (NEC) with no case to answer. She anticipates that she will again stand as the Labour candidate for Canterbury in the upcoming GE.

Reported here in the Independent

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/labour-national-executive-committee-canterbury-sunday-times-labour-party-b2473318.html

And the Shropshire Star

www.shropshirestar.com/news/uk-news/2024/01/04/allegations-of-antisemitism-and-transphobia-against-rosie-duffield-mp-dropped/

"In a statement posted to X, formerly Twitter, the MP wrote: “The Labour Party placed me under investigation last year under allegation – which I strenuously denied – of antisemitism and transphobia.”

It continued: “Immediately before Christmas, I was informed that the existing allegations, which had been confirmed by the party to The Sunday Times, had been dismissed by the NEC: there was no case to answer, and nothing I had done had breached any Labour party rule.
I was completely exonerated. That being the case I anticipate that I will be formerly confirmed as the Labour candidate for Canterbury shortly.”
She added: “Thank you again to everyone who has expressed support and solidarity in what has been a very difficult time. It has meant the world to me.”

Farcical that it came to this anyway. Only Labour MP in Tory Brexit Kent and this is how they treat her.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/01/2024 17:28

I've heard men in Labour say that they would rather the Tories had won that seat.

A reminder of how ridiculous this trumped up allegation was:

A Kent MP is being investigated after liking a tweet her party claims is anti-Semitic.
Rosie Duffield, who is the only Labour MP in the county, has come under-fire after liking a post on X, formerly Twitter, from Father Ted writer Graham Linehan.

Mr Linehan was replying to a tweet from comedian Eddie Izzard, who has launched a bid to become an MP, which said: “I’m a trans superhero — but if I’d lived in Nazi Germany I’d have been murdered for it.”

The Irish comedy writer, who describes himself as a women’s rights campaigner, responded: “Ah, yes, the Nazis, famously bigoted against straight white men with blonde hair.”

Duffield, 52, liked the tweet back in March, which sparked backlash from LGBT Labour, a campaign group, and it is now being investigated by the Labour Party, the Sunday Times reportsts*^.

Ah, Reddit...

Sorry I need to fact check this. So I looked up about half of those groups before Reddit triggered that I needed to log in to prove age (fallible) which I didn't really want to do because I don't want that disgusting shit associated with my account. Every single one of those groups that I searched (about half) was banned now.

I know it's landed Rosie in a serious situation but OMG that Tweet from Glinner is hilarious.

Edited

I'd be interested to know how long they were up for. And there's a depressing amount of threads on Reddit discussing how unfair it was that some of those threads were banned and/or requests for a redirect to a similar type of subreddit.

Brilliant news 😃

Igmum · 04/01/2024 18:03

Very good news. Now let's see her getting some decent support from the Labour leadership and her colleagues.

Waitwhat23 · 04/01/2024 18:07

Brilliant news for Rosie. These vexatious complaints are just about punishment through process.

duc748 · 04/01/2024 18:11

Another odd aspect of the Reddit loons is that they seem determined to regard the issue as an internal LP Left v Right thing; Starmerites and Corbynites. But it doesn't seem to me to shake down like that at all, the gender lunacy seems to have affected all wings of the party. Their criticism of Starmer would be more logical if he'd been backing Rosie to the hilt over the last few months, whereas in fact he completely hung her out to dry.

GailBlancheViola · 04/01/2024 18:41

Now wouldn't it be nice if the Leader of the Labour Party actually stood up and supported his MP for Canterbury.

Quite. Today he's told us that he's always supported women's right to single-sex spaces, yet he has allowed Rosie to be bullied and ostracised by members of the party for her support for that very thing. So what's stopping him from pointing out that Rosie is merely supporting party policy and that anyone who doesn't like it can fuck off and join the liberal democrats?

I read a bit. They are not very happy are they.
I read one comment where the tagline after the username had "Boycott Divest Sanction" in it, and they want Rosie done for anti-semitism???

They actually think what she liked the tweet about Izzard was "anti semitic Holocaust denial". Confused even though the whole point was that the Holocaust was targeted against Jewish and gay people, not men like Izzard.

Delighted for Rosie that's it's been dismissed, but it never should have been a 'thing' in the first place.

The Labour youth aren't taking it well on Twitter, just days after their screeching tantrums about Tonia Antoniazzi.
