Female prisoner told that wanting female-only prisons is transphobic

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 12/11/2023 11:32

Tweet from Dr Kate Coleman, founder of Keep Prisons Single Sex

Yesterday I visited a woman in prison.
She had expressed her support for the Raab policy, specifically that "people with penises" should be excluded from the female estate.
She was called into a meeting & given an "informal warning" that there were concerns that she was "transphobic". She was warned that there could be further action taken against her if she continued to express these views. Views that align with current ministerial thinking.
We will be pursuing this with MoJ Gov UK & with Alex Chalk Chelt's office.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't housing female prisoners with male prisoners against the Geneva Convention?

VeronicaBeccabunga · 12/11/2023 11:54

It was the issue of men in women's prisons that peaked me. That and hospitals.
In a rush of horrified indignation and rage I posted a link about it on Facebook, expecting everyone else to be equally horrified.
I got shat upon from a very great height by the TWAW crew, found myself unfriended and blocked and got PMs attempting to re-educate me.
Madness, utter madness.

Rightsraptor · 12/11/2023 11:59

The Geneva Convention only applies in war time, AFAIK.

This is so outrageous, but I do believe there are optimistic signs that this is changing and I have some faith in Alex Chalk (relative to my general level of trust in politicians, that is).

Only if they are POWs.

It is. But the Geneva Convention only applies internationally, to prisoners of war, e.g. captured soldiers. Domestic prisoners aren't covered by it.

Besides, as we keep being told, these males shouldn't be classified as males. Hmm

Thanks neighbourhood. This is really concerning and this woman must feel very worried about her future.

Froodwithatowel · 12/11/2023 12:44

For a woman to wish for a space away from a man is an offense.

Fuck that.

This hand's been so overplayed now it's ridiculous. I hope this goes into the national press.

And this ^^ is exactly why it is very, very important that all the niceness stops and women start saying. Bluntly. Rudely. That is a man. I see a man. The fact is that this is a man. It's the wangling and playing with words that has enabled this shit to happen to imprisoned women.

IcakethereforeIam · 12/11/2023 12:51

Exactly, a 'he' can’t be a 'she' no matter now he tilts his head, grows what's left of his hair, or cuts his own balls off.

RainWithSunnySpells · 12/11/2023 12:52

Thanks for the clarification everyone.

So PoW's have better protection than domestic prisoners. That shows just how crazy the whole thing is! I so hope that the truth and reality wins.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/11/2023 13:08

Trouble is trans extremists are extremely powerful in the law so the MoJ is the perfect place for them to implement women hostile policies like this. Of course, it does need countless useful idiots to implement their toxic beliefs.

pronounsbundlebundle · 12/11/2023 13:10

It's absolutely horrendous and very much a breach of that woman's human rights. I can't believe I live in a country where women don't have human rights in prison.

Thelnebriati · 12/11/2023 13:18

an "informal warning" AKA a threat made by staff, that can be denied if she makes a complaint.
The Geneva Conventions are four treaties that establish international legal standards for humanitarian treatment in war. Article 25 states that in mixed sex POW camps, women and men must have separate dormitories. Mixed sex dorms are treated as a war crime.https://www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/documents/atrocity-crimes/Doc.32_GC-III-EN.pdf

In this context, I’m all for rude bluntness (& even yelling, if that’s what it takes).

Appalling.

RoyalCorgi · 12/11/2023 15:01

The UN has Standard Minimum Rules for the treatment of women prisoners which state: "Men and women shall so far as possible be detained in separate institutions; in an institution which receives both men and women, the whole of the premises allocated to women shall be entirely separate."

No. Because what is a female. Is it a biological reality or a legal status? I think a court just ruled that it is a legal status. Once again the left need to accept the world they built.

Yes. The lobby have been quite open that the MoJ and women's prisons were intentionally tactically targeted. By said large lobby, funded to go and do so with large amounts of tax payer cash.

And yes, to gullible, useful prats. We seem to be awash with them in management positions.

From 2020:

'The Ministry of Justice has been named the top government organisation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender staff by the LGBT rights charity Stonewall, making it one of nine government organisations to make the annual list. The Stonewall Top 100 is the charity’s annual ranking of LGBT-inclusive workplaces. ...
MoJ permanent secretary, Sir Richard Heaton said: "I’m incredibly proud that we’ve been recognised as a leading employer for LGBTI+ people. That’s thanks to some fantastic individuals and strong staff networks – but also to all the thousands of people who are helping to build a workplace here where everyone feels they can belong."'

MoJ named top government employer for LGBT staff

Nine government organisations have made the Top 100 employers list, compiled by equality charity Stonewall

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 12/11/2023 17:36

However, when the MoJ was in, apparently giving male rapists access to imprisoned women only got the department as high as fifth on the list.

What do you have to do to get first place?

The Stonewall Top 100 is the charity’s annual ranking of LGBT-inclusive workplaces. This year's list is headed by the Newcastle City Council, followed by housing association Gentoo Group and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. The MoJ takes fifth position, just behind law firm Pinsent Masons.

This country is a disgrace, as is the government allowing this to happen.

A woman should be allowed her own space. This government again showing its pure disregard for women's rights.

Frood has it exactly right
I don’t even want to imagine what a horrifically traumatising nightmare it must be to be locked up with men, and have everyone around telling you they’re women and that you have to shut up and accept them. Women who are in prison are highly likely to have already experienced sexual and domestic violence from men. Then as a society, we do this to them. Talk about punching down. It’s an absolutely disgusting thing to do

They are.

KPSS are on it for this woman. But what's realistically the chances of a vulnerable woman, in a defenseless position where the authorities will punish her right now for non compliance, fund raising the thousands and thousands needed to get Ben and his wren in a court room, get through multiple days of absolute batshit and then wait six months for a judge to decide whether or not the staff involve should get a slapped wrist?
