Laughed at how the two Bristol lads calmly handled him but thought to myself that if I was to encounter that on the way back from the pub I don’t think I would mentally recover. Also I’m not sure how he would have reacted if two women had discovered him on foot. His behaviour is unacceptable I don’t give a toss what mental health problem he claims to have.

So, one look at the photo and there is no doubt that is a he. But in the world we live in, it could be a he/he or a she/he. Fantastic illustration of why words having clear unambiguous meanings is important.

I saw this yesterday and didn’t understand the “sympathy” comments at all. The mere thought of seeing him while walking home at night is terrifying. He is getting a sexual kick out of scaring people.

I don't think it it so much a case of "sympathy" as one of offering this type of individual therapy and support in managing their compulsions in a socially acceptable manner. They also need to understand that sanctions will rapidly escalate if they do not control their behaviour.

Carrot and stick, in other words. I think you need both to deliver positive change.

It’s clear that this person is not getting the help they need.

I was rather objecting to the Guardian’s reporting, which seemed to be a bit heavy on the sympathy angle. It would have been a different story had he frightened an elderly lady to death, for example. Would his proclivities have drawn sympathy in that case?

Fuck that. They don't need therapy and support that's just giving their perversions more attention and air. Don't go out in bondage gear, it's literally no more difficult than that - but they know that full well, they just get their sexual kicks out of frightening women.

Had he been an ‘indoor gimp’ (like an indoor cat?), nobody would be any the wiser. You could be sympathetic and say ‘cry for help’, or take the view that he got his sexual kicks from involving innocent bystanders.

NC as I live locally to this. Local Facebook groups are not full of sympathy for this man at all! Women & children have been really scared by this guy wondering around, jumping out on people & basically simulating sex with the pavement. This is a rural area and of the main roads, it’s very dark with hardly any streetlights & being small villages, there’s also rarely other people around off the main roads.i know the places this bloke has been jumping out at people. I’d have been absolutely fucking terrified!

Clearly a man, and the Guardian know he’s male. They know there’s a chance he may identify as female so they’re falling over themselves to pander to him. Naturally they’ll prioritise the creepy deviant for their sympathies instead of the women who were frightened of him. This sort of behaviour is not a loveable quirk, it’s bloody terrifying and a huge red flag for more serious offending. The Guardian are a joke. What’s that saying again? Being so open-minded that your brain falls out.
