GC & FWR confessional

To set the scene, I’m a middle aged mum of three, left leaning, fully GC, old enough to know better, and yet, against my better judgement I find myself liking the following a little more than I should.

Laurence Fox. I’m rewatching Lewis, and I enjoy him in this so much. Maybe it’s the show I’m enjoying, or the character he plays, but either way, I can’t get enough. Except when he’s being a smart arse.

Sam Smith. I love his music. Anything and everything, I must confess. His style of music is nothing at all like I usually enjoy, I’m more alternative/indie like Imagine Dragons, Green Day, the Smiths, or R & B like Beyoncé, Alicia Keyes, Mary J Blige as well as oldies Luther, Ella, Anita Baker. I don’t know if I’m categorising these correctly, but you know what I mean. But anyway, my 12 yr old and I blast Sam Smith on the school run, and I don’t see this changing.

Now I used to have a tiny crush on Russell Brand, however this week wiped that out completely.

Ah, I feel a bit better now.

Need to get anything off your chest/conscience? Feel free to use this safe space for your confession, fellow FWRers.

I like torturing posters who hate Tunnocks marshmallow products. Such humans are represented below by stunt mini humans! (Imagine chanting as they repeatedly dunk the blue fella!)

On topic, though, I like reading Ian Fleming even though I know it's extremely misogynistic.

MagpiePi · 21/09/2023 16:26

I sometimes buy the guardian on Saturdays and I print off and have a go at the cryptic crossword every day.

I don’t like Tunnocks tea cakes.

OccultGnuNew · 21/09/2023 16:29

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 21/09/2023 16:16

I don’t like Tunnocks marshmallow things.

I sort of think I like them, but am always disappointed with the reality. The chocolate is very unchocolatey and the biscuit bit is tasteless and has a gritty texture. A posh version with nice chocolate and a shortbread base would be great! <I may have given this too much thought>. Sorry - I am a traitor, clearly.

Would a home made version be possible I wonder? I can make shortbread and buy nice chocolate, the only problem might be the marshmallow. . .

And as a confession - the first single I bought was a Gary Glitter song. And for nostalgia reasons I still like to listen to it.

TeenEyeroll · 21/09/2023 16:37

I think the biscuit base used to taste better in the tea cakes. They were less gritty and I think slightly salty.

I agree with Patrick Harvie that sea tortoises are endangered and more care should be taken for their welfare.

I agree with Nicola Sturgeon that haggis is delicious.

I like Body Shop's Vitamin C line, although I only ever buy it at TK Maxx.

I read the Guardian Online if there's an article that interests me, albeit mumbling "no way, misogynists!" as I page past their plaintive appeals to pay/subscribe.

I know the lyrics to a couple of Billy Bragg songs.

@RebelliousCow MIC is also a guilty pleasure of mine, must say most recent series in corfu was one of the best. Also once thought Tristan was quite fit but suspect he’s a bit of gaslighter.

Corsica? It did look fantastic,

I like the song 'white lines'. And 'it wasn't me'.

The devil has all the best tunes.

I think the song White Lines is anti drugs (but I could be wrong)

Slothtoes · 21/09/2023 18:37

I’ve been to see Russell Brand in the early 00s and can’t remember anything about it. He wasn’t making horrible blowjob gagging jokes then. Didn’t follow him really after that but also didn’t think very hard about the sex addict persona. Kind of put it in the same box as the drug use. The Dispatches doc was really distressing and I couldn’t get it out of my head. When there were all the blind items before the release I was actually convinced the accused celebrity would be David Walliams who is unbelievably creepy. I didn’t suspect Russell Brand.

Some of the criticism Sam Smith gets is unfair. Pop stars are supposed to wear daft outfits, that's what they are for. David Bowie and Lady Gaga wore similar stuff, they were just better looking than Sam Smith.

Apart from the black balloon outfit! That was just ridiculous!. My only real issue with Sam Smith creatively is that he isn't as original in his ideas as he thinks he is.

I like watching Montalbano even though it is ridiculously sexist.

Yeah but if we all liked them there would be fewer left for you, so surely it's a good thing not everyone likes them?

Italy is a sexy country.......I love Montalbano too. One of my fave series ever.

Musomama1 · 22/09/2023 07:54

I do like the music of Sam Smith.

His attire doesn't upset me either, I think he looks silly rather than sinister but each to their own.

But I think that's probably it for confessionals haha, I've filed so much under 'rubbish'.

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 22/09/2023 08:08

I don't hate men.

Will that do?

My chosen loud music for the school run is Metallica, Breaking Benjamin, Skillet, Queens of the Stone Age, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Royal Blood, Seether....

I also like Fallout Boy, which I'm told makes me a betrayer to the rock and metal cause, but I like them.

pickledandpuzzled · 22/09/2023 08:15

@MaryLivingOnDreamsAndCustardCreams and @Wavysurfer yes!!! Sorry. I mean I like white lines too, but I'm guilty about liking blurred lines. 😅
