Should we buy Roisin Murphy's new album?

Lilifer · 01/09/2023 17:40

Would that help her maybe and be a two fingers up to the cowardly c**ts who have cancelled her gigs promotional interviews etc?

I want the money to get to Roisin not the music execs tho so not sure if this is the most effective thing to do??

Worth trying if you have spare cash.

Even if you have no cash remember streaming albums gives a pay out to artist and will count towards chart rankings. Stream any of her recent songs on spotify.

Yes, yes, yes to streaming Roisin and any other ways to uncancel her. She has been treated appallingly.

AlisonDonut · 01/09/2023 18:54

The record company are giving profits to a trans charity so not an easy choice. I don't want to be responsible for more kids being mutilated or sterilised so although I feel for Roisin, I won't be putting money their way.

WorriedMutha · 01/09/2023 19:00

Not if the profits are going to the trans cause. If she dumped her record company, sued them and signed with another, I would definitely buy her next offering.

BabyStopCryin · 01/09/2023 19:03

She ought to sue the record company. What a shower…

namitynamechange · 01/09/2023 19:12

Also... What about Louise distrass - different style of music (more punky) and lower profile but her recent album was probably better than any shed done before but basically been allowed to disappear without trace down to wrongthink

IcakethereforeIam · 01/09/2023 19:22

I've seen suggestions to buy her earlier stuff, released on different labels.

I'll maybe do the streaming as at least that way some of the cash gets to her

If the link doesn't work, look up Bandcamp Friday.

I hadn't heard about this before. For one day a month the money goes to the artist and you can also send them a message. It was yesterday but there'll be another in October.

What is happening to the world when expressing concern for children being harmed by unnecessary medication produces a wave of hate? I know there are people ready at any moment to bully anyone who speaks out, but why do companies and ordinary people not stand up against it? If being trans is natural and innate, why does it need medical intervention?!

I've spent all weekend streaming her older stuff that was on a different label. Bugger giving money to trans charities.

PaperWalkAndTalk · 02/09/2023 10:10

The current record company will give the profits from the latest album to a "trans charity", better off buying her old albums instead.

IcakethereforeIam · 02/09/2023 10:47

@Wellies54 I can't read the tweet, thanks for flagging this though. Do you know the date in October?

What? Is this even legal?

I feel exactly the same. Would be well up for donating if she is able to sue them though

BetsyBobbins · 02/09/2023 11:10

They can donate from their cut of the profits if they like, it's perfectly legal. That doesn't come from Roisin's income.

However, that's not an official posotion of the record company, it's from "sources" so could be attention-seeking nonsense.

She's not likely to 'go broke'.

Lol.

Hopefully this link to Band camp will work. I just googled it so hopefully shouldn't be too hard to find. The next one is Oct 6th.

Currently streaming her new album. She’s a magnificent woman and I won’t be told otherwise by anyone. It’s just bare faced misogyny. Is any money going the way of say, NSPCC every time a Michael Jackson song is played? No. So why on earth should her record label be donating money from her sales to a trans charity.

SoundTheSirens · 08/09/2023 18:18

ancuruadh · 03/09/2023 00:36

Mores the pity...

You think a woman should go bankrupt for expressing concern at healthy children undergoing unnecessary medical treatment?

Why are you so keen to see young transpeople - not to mention those who may well turn out not to have been trans in the first place - sterilised and/or lose the future ability to breastfeed? Why do you hate transpeople so much that you’d wish that on them?

fromorbit · 08/09/2023 18:54

Important! The reports about profits from the album going to a TRA charity were a LIE!

Roisin confirmed that today on twitter.

Well, those reports were unconfirmed by the label. They have made no official statement whatsoever and they are not intending to donate proceeds from the record to charity. I checked!

Stream or buy whatever you want. It is all good.

Also the first chart positions for the album are here:

It is Roisin's highest charted album on I tunes ever. No 1 in Ireland no 5 in UK... so far.

The cancelation has backfired completely. Roisin has won huge publicity for the problems with medicalising children , plus lots of people are loving her great music.
