Trans surgery nightmares revealed: 81% endure pain in the five years after gender-change procedures, more than half say having sex is painful - and a third are left incontinent, survey shows

The headline alone makes this is absolutely horrendous.

Trans surgery pitfalls revealed: 81% endure pain after operations

University of Florida researchers showed that more than half of trans surgery patients endured pain during sex, and nearly a third could not control their bladders after operations.

I knew it was bad, but not that bad.

And only the DM could come up with a term like 'genital overhaul'.

WhereYouLeftIt · 23/07/2023 18:23

Bloody hell, I knew the complications rate was high, but that is awfully high! I read https://www.refinery29.com/en-gb/transgender-vagina-surgery a few years back, Roche details the outcomes of their surgery (along with a soft-porn lengthy description of what they wanted / expected, be warned!) and I actually felt angry on their behalf.

The surgeons and clinics involved in these surgeries should be ashamed of themselves. They're experimenting on these people, and leaving someone incontinent or in pain - how do they look at themselves in the mirror?

Trans Vaginas Gender Reassignment Surgery

Writer and trans woman Juno Roche shares how she feels about her vagina.

Awful stats.

Thank goodness people are researching this stuff and collecting data.

dcbc1234 · 23/07/2023 18:48

You'd have to be bonkers to consent with those odds.

RebelliousCow · 23/07/2023 19:52

I suspect the mental and emotional trauma after radical surgery is under-reported too. 'Regretters' a Neflix documentary about two MTF transsexuals highlights the total shock they felt after coming round after surgery - from which neither ever fully recovered. " What have I done"? No longer 'whole'.

TheBiologyStupid · 23/07/2023 19:59

N=21, so a very small study. Nevertheless, the results are alarming and should be borne in mind by those who promote such hideous and unnecessary surgical procedures.

ladyvimes · 23/07/2023 20:13

It’s a hideous procedure and you don’t get a vagina or a penis afterwards. I cannot understand how it is allowed as it is basically butchering people’s general is! It is impossible to change sex and people need to start realising this. We need more support to enable people to be comfortable in the skin they’re in.

Yes a small study but a reasonable sample size for general results. A larger sample size probably wouldn’t show much difference.

Maaate · 23/07/2023 20:20

Welcome to womanhood chaps!

FannyCann · 23/07/2023 20:22

The DM has been doing such sterling work ion educating the public about this. The comments could have been written by a bunch of mumsnetters.

This is the crux of it.

Boiledbeetle · 23/07/2023 20:23

That made for unpleasant/uncomfortable reading. I get its only a small sample size but even so it's grim!

nobodysdaughternow · 23/07/2023 20:27

I can only hope we will look back at this horrific torture of people who hope that changing their genitalia will change how they feel.

It is is barbaric.

The surgeons doing these ops should be locked up. Imagine training to be a surgeon for years so you can mutate healthy functioning body parts and replace them with useless lumps of scarred flesh.

AutumnCrow · 23/07/2023 20:30

Had all the N=21 patients actually been attempting penetrative sex on a regular basis? Or is that 57% of those that had a crack at it?

Pixiedust1234 · 23/07/2023 20:37

Apologies I didn't realise it was from a small study group. However 80% is still too high imo.

'There is a high percentage reporting musculoskeletal pain, difficulty moving, and pelvic floor dysfunction,' said Dr Alappattu.
Difficulty moving?? Why is any surgeon making a body worse rather than better? Why are they harming another human being? Surely this means that mental health help should be the first course of action before any surgery? Although perhaps it explains why not many take this route. But again, just saying you are something doesnt make it true. It really really doesn't. People need help with seeing reality rather than pushing them deeper into insanity.

Of the estimated 1.6 million trans and non-binary Americans aged 13 and above, only 31 percent take cross-sex hormones and 16 percent opt for surgery, according to research by the Washington Post and KFF, a health charity.

Is the survey all about MtF surgery? People who have XY chromosomes?

I know an XX person who has had mobility issues and pain after trans surgery and wonder how typical that is.

Palmasailor · 23/07/2023 20:57

Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Wnikat · 23/07/2023 21:01

A friend of mine who has had the whole MtF shebang has had terrible complications from the surgery. And funnily enough changing genders hasn’t magically solved all their mental health problems either.

Palmasailor · 23/07/2023 21:03

You don’t say…

mumda · 23/07/2023 21:10

They have also mixed up biological males and biological females having different surgeries. The article says those 21 people had vaginoplasties, mastectomies or other surgeries.

I think that makes the stats meaningless

Soothingaftersun · 23/07/2023 21:16

You can't create a vagina. You either have a vagina you don't

CampervanKween · 23/07/2023 21:19

I think that's why people like India Willoughby are so angry and so horrible on social media - it's because they realise what a complete disaster their life is now and what a mistake they've made but there's no going back once you've inverted your penis. So they have to pretend that everything is wonderful and try and push many more men into making the same mistake. Misery seeks company.

Palmasailor · 23/07/2023 21:24

Soothingaftersun · 23/07/2023 21:16

Correct.. totally correct. Anything else is mental illness and should be treated as such.

Palmasailor · 23/07/2023 21:24

This is also correct,
