Why would someone who's previously shared feminist views add their pronouns to their Instagram? I always assumed if you did that it means you support trans rights, I don't get how you can be a feminist and do that but happy to stand corrected!

Feminism at its core is about the equality of the sexes not about whether or not you think having pronouns on social media is a good idea. Many women who consider themselves feminists are not gender critical. You might not agree with them but you are not the arbiter of who is allowed to consider themselves a feminist.

Feminism at its core is about women, about women having the equality with men. Having pronouns on social media is a bad idea because it enables and emphasises misogynistic attitudes. Many women who consider themselves feminists are not gender critical. I may not agree with them and I am certainly the arbiter of who I am allowed to consider a feminist.

No different to a man considering himself to be a woman. I am not the arbiter of his thoughts. I am certainly the arbiter of mine. I am certainly allowed to consider him a man.

Is it feminist to state that only women who think and behave as you do are feminists?

I think that most women who are feminists do things that others don't consider feminist.

I think changing your surname upon marriage is a bad idea because it symbolizes transfer of ownership of identity to the new husband. I wouldn't be so arrogant and narrow minded as to say that I don't consider anyone who does this as a feminist. Particularly as I shave my armpits which is pandering to the male gaze and sexist beauty standards. Not a particularly feminist act.

Individual acts may not be feminist. None of us are perfect and we don't live in an equal world.
That doesn't change what feminism is.

I’m not sure why shaving your armpits is “pandering to the make gaze”. I do it because I find it more comfortable and feels cleaner, same with pubic hair. Do lesbians not do this? Are they pandering to the make gaze? Totally bizarre assumption.

On the other hand pronoun announcements are part of an ideology that invariably and inevitably is based on nothing but stereotypes, stereotypes that are always detrimental to women. As soon as defining a woman by anything other than biology is accepted you are defining her in a way that limits her behaviour and opportunities. Being a gender ideologist and a feminist just aren’t compatible.

It is feminist to state that a woman has the right to her own opinions, that she can make her own mind up about other people and that her thoughts and beliefs do not have to conform to any norms, stereotypes or imposed ideas.
