I'm not sure I understand the hierarchy

SpicyMoth · 19/05/2023 00:23

Eye opening having it all laid out like that to be honest!

ScrollingLeaves · 19/05/2023 00:35

Thank you, how useful.

I think the tip supposedly represents the thoughts of the recently peaked or questioning, as you go down the further thoughts but agree the hierarchy is a bit off

The faces of the side getting uglier makes me think this could be anti GC propaganda?

Don’t the faces on the side progress towards a metamorphosis into a lit-up, fully conscious, higher being?

Its random af tbh, I didn't see that one only the weird sea creature 2nd to last.

I'd take this iceberg thing a bit more seriously without the weird faces.

Maybe it's supposed to show the evil, ugly terf being finally transformed into a wonderful all knowing being of light...

zibzibara · 19/05/2023 09:46

Yes I think the panels on the right are meant to show someone being horrified into enlightenment.

I also immediately read it as being anti-GC. It utilises the categorisation that is typical of identity politics - whereby you can locate or identify everyone via labels and levels.

The deep sea feeders - are the dangerous, ugly ones far beneath the surface of 'acceptable' GS feminism, sort of thing......

BluebellBlueballs · 19/05/2023 09:54

It does make you wonder why the last one is the enlightened being not an uglier, deeper sea creature.

Maybe a Freudian slip of sorts by the author?

TheAntiGardener · 19/05/2023 10:48

I also read it as anti-GC due to at least one of the points - ‘they want to rape people by deception’ - being a familiar distorted and inaccurate portrayal of GC views that is peddled by TRAs.

No, I don’t think ‘they’ are all would-be rapists. I think that making single sex spaces mixed provides opportunities for men who want to sexually abuse women.

nauticant · 19/05/2023 10:51

My interpretation is that the 1 tenth of the iceberg above the surface, that everyone can see, is considered by gender critical people as being reasonable, but the deeper down you go, the further from the surface of reasonableness, the more "extreme" the views are, and the uglier, in their souls, of the people who hold them.

Some of the most "extreme" views simply seem to reflect material reality. As such it looks like a trans activists clutching their pearls exercise.

IcakethereforeIam · 19/05/2023 10:55

I like a GC Iceberg as a counterpoint to a GI word salad.

RudsyFarmer · 19/05/2023 10:59

I think someone could reformat that and make it more accurate.

I could t read it all on my phone however I hop one of the points was that gay charities needed a new cause so took up the trans lobby after section 24 was revoked. That was a huge part of this movement. Keeping those cash cow charities relevant and their employees with jobs.

nauticant · 19/05/2023 11:10

Having looked at it again, I think my interpretation is wrong and it's presented to support gender critical views. I should have been tipped off by the fact that it's very direct, and if there's one thing that trans activists particularly hate it's plain-speaking that could be readily understood.

Yes TRAs sure don't like the truth even if they are trying to use it to say why the GC view is wrong.
Eg detransitioners not being recorded etc.

The more I think about it, this must be pro GC as TRAs shy away from statements of fact like vampires from the light, and always have done.

ImFineThankYouSusan · 19/05/2023 11:46

To those questioning the pics on the right, it's a very popular meme.

The person who made this just used the same template that is used everywhere. There are a few different variations of it but I think this is the most recent.

Bosky · 19/05/2023 18:17

That's good to know. I interpreted the images up to that point as expressing increasing cognitive dissonance until eventually the person sloughs off all the nonsense. It did puzzle me that the character grew a beard!

Looking at this linked in the bio I am pretty sure this is a genuine RadFem:

Interesting reply to the iceberg here:

"I'm trans-inclusive but I agree with a lot of these & idk how to feel abt that tbh I never realized I agree w so many of these points"

I may be wrong, but I didn't read that point as "they are all would be rapists", I read it more along the lines of "Lying or hiding things about yourself in order to gain consent"

Whether you'd call that rape or not is another matter entirely, but it's 100% a deceptive way of gaining consent at the very least.

But then, it's perfectly fine and legal to hide the fact that you're HIV positive from a partner these days.. So...

I don't think that's the likely issue talked about.

I think it's about how certain passing trans people may not reveal their status, and so trick people into sex.

It's a real issue that happens sometimes at least. Opinion will differ on whether it's a sexual assault or not.

ScrollingLeaves · 19/05/2023 19:35

Yes, I understood it as that too: sex by deception as a crime. For example this is from the gay Men’s network writing to the CPS:
Male Homosexuals can be victims of sex by deception offences and “stealthing” (the practice of trans identified females concealing their true biological sex) is a growing issue in homosexual male spaces.

We are therefore concerned to protect the interests of homosexual males against sex crime by deception and we believe that everyone should be equal before the law with no special treatment for some defendants and no second- class status for some victims

TheAntiGardener · 19/05/2023 20:10

Yes, I think you’re right Porcelina and SpicyMoth. I’d been thinking more about the familiar allegation that ‘we’ think ‘they’ are all predators trying to get into the ladies loos for nefarious reasons. Which is not representative of my views. Your ireading makes more sense. But my point that I don’t see ‘them’ as a monolithic group still stands; I don’t think all trans people are trying to deceive in this way either. Positing that GC feminists view trans people as uniformly dishonest/deviant/dangerous is generally an anti-GC argument.

Although given the rest of the iceberg I tend to think it’s just been sloppily written in this case.

gymorgin · 19/05/2023 20:11

Backlash against feminism

I felt that.

Igmum · 19/05/2023 20:57

Agree it's oddly written. I was trying to figure out whether it was slating us or siding with us, but Nauticant is right, it's too direct to be TRA propaganda
