I was shocked but delighted to see this on the HebWeb, Hebden Bridge's community website.
https://www.hebdenbridge.co.uk/forum/2023/006.html
Sadly the letter by Dave Boardman (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11130491/Music-academy-lecturer-sacked-comments-drag-queens-femininity-takes-legal-action.html Cathy's dad) has been removed due to legal threats but the comments are still up

Lecturer 'sacked for suggesting drag acts are a gross caricature'

Cathy Boardman, a former lecturer in cultural studies at a Brighton music college, claims she has been forced out of her job after she asked her class to reflect on whether 'womanface' is demeaning.

I really don’t see why women who have been cancelled, sacked from jobs etc, have to include the very same people who have done this to them.

If you ever visit you'll be sad to see all the lovely pro-trans posters and flags up. The internet is not real life thank god.

You're totally right - the internet isn't real life, thank fuck.

Maybe you could try telling that to the trans extremists on Reddit and Twitter who delete, edit and filter their whole online existence and then can't seem to handle actual reality out in the real world.

There'a a reason they're so angry, and it's because in order to get what they want, they need everybody to play along with their self delusion. Those of us who won't play ball must be demonised, instead of them facing reality. It must be exhausting having to pretend all the time.

Yeah those stickers are vile. Good to know it's only a few people doing that.

Let's hope such a lovely little town continues to be inclusive and accepting of its trans residents who helped make it what it is today.

You... think it's vile that women should object to being redefined as a gender identity without their consent?

Farmageddon · 29/04/2023 10:12

CathyBoardman · 25/04/2023 20:16

Yes it's very silly. And pushes things underground, and fosters resentment.

There's no reason that feminists and trans people can't get on. We don't all have to believe the same things in order treat each other well.

There's also no reason that we can't have women only events, or trans only events, or gay men only events.

We could have a party for only people who like psy trance music. I wouldn't want to go, but I would never try to ban it. I also wouldn't assume that a party aimed at a demographic that I don't belong to is planned as a personal slight to me.

Women's discos have been a staple of the valley for years. The long running one isn't women only anymore, and now we are only allowed to gather with other women if we do it privately and in secret.

That's progress for you.

Unfortunately, this requires common sense, which they are lacking. They don't want to 'get along' with women, they want to colonise our spaces and language and we're supposed to just shut up and take it. You're starting from a reasonable perspective, and they are starting from the perspective of wanting everyone to cow down to their demands. Therefore a compromise isn't going to work..

It reminds me of this quote:
"Meet me in the middle," says the unjust man. You take a step towards him, he takes a step back. "Meet me in the middle," says the unjust man.

Also, a trans only event would not work for many because it would reinforce that they are not the sex they claim to be - reality is not something they seem to want to accept. So women's groups must be infiltrated, and taken over.
'Be kind' has only gotten us trampled on.

Shouldn’t everyone feel included and accepted?

Only people with the right beliefs should be included and accepted, apparently.

Neither do I.

Or why we should have to come up with euphemisms for female person such as AFAB and cervix haver and use them about ourselves in order to include people who don't want the word "woman" to include them.

Ikr. I’d really like this answered in a way that is congruent to a belief in human rights for all.

It is fortunate that Hebden Bridge is very accepting of trans people however there are certain sections of its population that are not very tolerant of women, especially lesbians that may not want to accept men into their spaces.

If you’re one of the problematic women The Witch Finder General and her gang will seek out these pesky women, complain to anyone they can, search their social media, target their employers, threaten them with police action and demand their silence or else.
So much for being kind, huh?

This is bullying on a town-wide scale and the local Labour Party need to get a grip of that person as she is thoroughly toxic and responsible for much of the division in this community.

I can’t get worked up about this. I can’t imagine many children standing there and looking at this long enough to notice the mastectomy scars. I’m a GC feminist and I am also deeply troubled by the movement to enable people to have healthy body parts removed and take meds for the rest of their lives. I can also see the bigger impact this movement has on women on girls.

But this poster just seems fairly anodyne a message when you look at it at a glance, as I’m sure most of us (esp kids) will. It’s celebrating difference and I’m all for that.

Maybe I need to call in and look at it in context though?

littleripper · 26/07/2023 12:21

My immediate thought was "Gay people are vampires and ogres" it is so weird.

IcakethereforeIam · 26/07/2023 12:25

Why are they all sleeping walking? Why has the trans troll been stabbed in the eye with an intersex flag? Why is 'they' so big?....No, wait. I've got that one!

littleripper · 26/07/2023 12:29

The poster really does raise more and more questions the more you look
Is the Witch a GC feminist - are we all included after all?
Are just the fairies 'not villains' or all the monsters?
Who are the villains?

There's no need for the faux-confusion. Its a bunch of fictional / fairytale characters, both stereotypically good (fairies, knights etc) and bad (ogres, goblins etc) all living together happily - hence the "and they all lived happily ever after etc etc". The point is there are no villains, everyone gets along and so forth.

Namechange5508 · 26/07/2023 12:33

I think it sets us off as adults who believe what we believe (I’m assuming you and I broadly think the same on this issue) because they have emboldened the word ‘they’ (I also fucking hate having to say my pronouns and I don’t do it work, where we’re asked to have this in our signature) and they have written ‘we are not the villains’ which suggests (a) someone is the villain here so it’s combative isn’t it? and (b) the likes of you and I are the villain for not going along with this bullshit.

But, the reason it doesn’t bother me is that I think all of that messaging is lost on kids. I don’t think they’ll even stop to look as they wander (teens) or run (littlies) into the Town Hall and if they do, they’ll just see a fairytale poster with some kind of vaguely positive messaging.

I'm a working class Northern, I was straight up taking the piss no "faux confusion" here.
The art is weird and grim and gives mixed messages. It is horrendous.
is that better for you?

What’s the point then? If the mastectomy scars are pointless, go over children heads etc why are they there?

I don't think it's designed for children, it's an all-ages thing.

I don't know what the mixed messages are unless you're undertaking some mental gymnastics. It seems fairly basic and unsubtle to me.

IcakethereforeIam · 26/07/2023 12:41

Nope, I'm honestly confused. Overcrowded, lack of perspective, sleepwalking like Egyptians and somebody must be 'the villains' if they aren't.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 26/07/2023 12:44

the statement ‘we are not the villains’ suggests that someone else

‘we are not villains’ would have been better

RufustheFactualReindeer · 26/07/2023 12:46

That someone else is the villain…doh 🤦🏻‍♂️

IcakethereforeIam · 26/07/2023 12:50

Reminds me when my kids played with fuzzy felt, everything they liked had to be shoehorned on there regardless of whether it fitted or made sense. Was cute, in a toddler. This person has won awards, eh?
