Sorry but I can't link but this article is on page 9 of The Sunday Telegraph if anybody can link.

"Dr Laura Favaro said Scholars told her they had threats of violence in the gender debates and hostility from collegues. Others felt that their careers couldn't survive that sort of backlash and they have to have secret conversations to avoid reprisals.
The University allegedly blocked the email account used to communicate with survey respondents and demanded that she hand over all of her data and delete any copies of it before making a redundant"

So a researcher who ran a study on if people are censored from speaking out against the trans lobby has had that study censored. I think the academic term here would be QED. I mean it demonstrates itself.

Good luck to her. Brings to mind that researcher at Bath Spa who had his work on detransitioning shut down for "causing unnecessary offense".

That's so crazy.

I find it disturbing that this happens as the trans stuff, tbh, what else might they feel they can shut down? What else have they shut down?

Thought it would be worth bumping this. I’m not sure when it comes to court, but Laura could do with some more carrots. 🥕 🥕 🥕

For some reason the other thread did not come up when I searched.

I am hoping that with both the Jo Phoenix decision and the recent Parliamentary debate following Cass, City University would drop the case. But no sign yet.

As I understand it, it is not what Laura has said or done, or her research methods. The University just decided they did not like the results of her research. Chilling.

Do these institutions live in such a bubble that they aren’t aware of the Law? They deserve to be sacked.

@LizzieSiddal the power that academics/academic departments have over PhD students is immense. The more usual way in which research is stolen from students is so that more senior academics can claim it for their own (or at the very least muscle in on it - see link to one of many articles, Guardian because its not paywalled). In Laura's case no-one wanted to muscle in on GC research. Hope she can publish and that the university will have to account for why it tried to suppress her work. https://www.theguardian.com/higher-education-network/2018/may/18/academia-exploitation-university-mental-health-professors-plagiarism

PS. Not all academics are like this. But its quite a bullying culture.

Academia is built on exploitation. We must break this vicious circle | Anonymous academic

What did I find when I joined a university? Poor mental health, huge workloads, ego-driven professors and rampant plagiarism
