Interesting. Looks like there's a reckoning coming for Labour?

I would love to see someone ask Wes Streeting what happened in between his participation in 'Lily' Madigan's group listing and denouncing GC women, and his new embrace of reality.

Florissant · 16/04/2023 09:12

Checks date

No, not 1 April.

FOJN · 16/04/2023 09:13

Good grief. If WS thinks understanding GCSE biology is nothing to be proud of then why is Labour still pretending that a woman can have a penis? Sounds like an admission that they have been lying, quite intentionally, for years.

Getting an endometriosis diagnosis has been rubbish since forever, it took me 25 years even after I told a Dr that's what I thought I had he patronised and dismissed me.

Chersfrozenface · 16/04/2023 09:27

What are Labour going to do with all the rapists they ensure are convicted?

Imprison them? When asked about child sex offenders the Labour spokesperson said they wouldn't be building any more prisons.

And the rapists who "identify" as women, before or after the offence or trial - if they are imprisoned, what prison will they be put in?

And women who need support after a rape - will they get actual female-only groups or one to one support?

KalimbaMoon · 16/04/2023 09:36

So are Labour admitting they don’t have a grasp of basic GCSE biology? But it’s ok because Labour will be much better than the Tories on women’s rights?

That’s how I read the extract anyway!

Theeyeballsinthesky · 16/04/2023 09:41

Cant protect what you can’t define 🤷🏻‍♀️

That's how I took it too.
Labour clearly thinks that we are all to stupid to see the massive flaw in everything they are saying

This is bizarre. If you are going to do attack ads, pick the right subjects. There will be plenty.

There is little evidence to suggest that Rishi is misogynist. He has two daughters, and his bio suggests he comes from a family of strong women: strong mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. He has promoted a number of women to his Cabinet.

Is Keir assuming that as a former DPP he is considered tough on crime? If so he needs to explain his position better, rather than attack the opposition.

Rightsraptor · 16/04/2023 09:51

Don't ever forget that Labour's Lisa Nandy think rapists can be housed with women

soddingspiderseason · 16/04/2023 09:52

Another Labour man thinking women are stupid dinosaurs. Sigh. Won't be getting my vote.

HermioneWeasley · 16/04/2023 09:54

Excuse me while I PMSL

nilsmousehammer · 16/04/2023 09:55

Labour doesn't spend nearly enough time getting SPADs with a brain (who do not scream for a priest and hide under the bed at the sight of political impurity) to read here.

This is the 'why don't you women focus on what really matters politically for women (here is my pre approved list)', all of which grandly ignores the reality of impact on women in all of those matters (particularly the vulnerable women you'd think someone identifying as left for actual political values as opposed to image and feelz) by making all those services mixed sex to enable a small group of really fantastically misogynist and selfish men. And making the word 'woman' mean 'anyone of any sex, particularly male ones'.'

We debunked that one a bloody decade ago.

MarshaBradyo · 16/04/2023 09:55

So Streeting is proud of not being able to get GSCE biology right

What an absolute gaslighting wally

nilsmousehammer · 16/04/2023 09:56

Script. It's a script.

We've got the relationships board here, we know about the Freedom Programme, Lundy Bancroft and Chumplady. We know all about the scripts.

Nellodee · 16/04/2023 10:01

Speaking of dog whistles that can only be heard by those who know what they mean, the reference to gcse biology is so that he can sound reasonable to the masses, but also secretly mean that “sex is more complicated than you learn in gcse biology “ to the twitterati.

nilsmousehammer · 16/04/2023 10:04

'Dogwhistle' has come to mean 'a point which will raise evidence and lines of argument I can't deal with'.

MarshaBradyo · 16/04/2023 10:04

I can’t believe they keep coming out with these nonsensical Orwellian statements and people will vote for them.

Floisme · 16/04/2023 10:07

Oh dear Labour. I'm still hoping you can dig yourself out of this in time for the general election but let's be honest, it's not looking good is it?

Roste · 16/04/2023 10:35

Makes me laugh out loud, Labour protecting women? Very funny but April 1st was a few weeks ago.
As for Wes Streeting as a potential health minister, no thanks he’s a wolf in sheeps clothing spouting placating empty words.

Their Bud Lite moment

DemiColon · 16/04/2023 12:17

The way I am reading this is Labour has heard those who are telling them that this issue on women and gender could lose them the election, and they are trying to get ahead of it by attacking the Tories on women's issues and trying to beef up their credibility.

But they are so unable to understand what the problem is, they are totally screwing it up, and you end up with:

"A Government source responded: 'This accusation is absurd coming from a party that has never been led by a woman, and that has hit out at one of its own MPs [Rosie Duffield] while she was facing a barrage of misogynistic abuse. We won't be taking any lessons from Labour on protecting women.'"

Which makes the Tories look like normal people and Labour look like complete idiots.

The problem is the people doing their election strategy are really at the level of "Tories are evil misogynists/racists/bigots, and Labour are Good" and they have no ability to consider that might not actually be the root of different policy choices by the parties.

This is part of their problem - they assume he has to be a misogynist, because he is a Conservative. It prevents them from understanding what's going on.

Floisme · 16/04/2023 10:07

Oh dear Labour. I'm still hoping you can dig yourself out of this in time for the general election but let's be honest, it's not looking good is it?

It's not! especially as every time one of them opens their mouth they manage to offend vast swathes of women with every sentence.

I'm getting fucking sick of it. I honestly think that despite them knowing they are alienating their core female members they think we will still vote for them because we are Labour women.

No! I say no!

Baabaa75 · 16/04/2023 13:09

So he's admitting Keir and the majority of the labour party failed GCSE biology and have no idea what a woman actually is, no surprises there then 🙄

Needmoresleep · 16/04/2023 17:59

Denying reality will continue to lead then into all sorts of problems. It's probably 18 months till the next election. 18 months of them trying to justify the argument that gender takes precedence over biology.

It's going to be grim.
