A Canadian man has entered a power lifting competition. He smashed the record.

The trans 'woman' who was the former record holder is not happy about it.

Avi Silverberg's argument stating that they are 'nice to people' is bizarre.
Sorry but who cares how liked they are?
It's blatantly unfair that they are allowed to compete, it's not 'nice' to deprive biological women of their medals.
Obviously Avi is accepted in the gym that they train in because any women who object to it would be silenced, sidelined and possibly hounded out in that environment.

Are you mixing up your Avi and your Anne? Anne is the transwoman who has been beaten by Avi, who identified as a woman for the purposes of this competition. Anne is not happy because he feels he has been unfairly beaten by another man playing the same game as him but with a beard.

Not particularly overjoyed about either man taking womens records, but appreciate the irony of a transwoman hoist by their own petard - that has to hurt (🙂)!

Avi is an active coach, who I believe coaches female weightlifters. You know, to achieve their very best..... while you Anne, seek to beat them in a competition you now acknowledge is not fair.

I wonder though if there is a way for Avi to reject his record in the future? Or if he will now work to ensure that legislation goes through that will wipe it?

I'm glad he is showing them how absurb this all is. Just because you think you are a woman doens't make you a woman. We can't deny biology.

@Helleofabore I think if they reverse allowing male to participate in female categories, then both Avi and Anne's records will be removed. Don't forget that 8 out of the 9 records in Canada are now held by a biological man already.

So Canada's policy is essentially that any male can enter a female competition? No hormones, no surgery, no birth certificate change, no proof of "living as a woman"? Nothing?

I wonder does 'a woman' even have to be human now. Maybe a bear could do the next lift. If we're pretending a man is a wiman, then a male bear might (as well as anyone or anything else) be a woman in Canada now (amongst other places).

all that will happen is that there needs to be a f document of some sorts saying you identify as a woman. It would still allow biological males to compete in women’s categories

I sadly cannot see this change. Ever. It seems every young person thinks this is good, and most men don’t care as it does not affect them. (Avi is a rare guy) So the majority of people either do not care or think this is great.

I feel inclusion (disability / able bodied) is fine at club / school / recreational level but not at higher levels.

I actually think it's going to take some wild, ridiculous acts like this to peak people into realising what's happening. Lia Thomas in the swimming made a lot of people sit up and take notice.

The unbelievable thing here is that the trans woman athlete Anne admits their own participation isn't fair but thinks because they're nice to others, they should be allowed to continue. So what about the biological women? They're probably nice to others but they don't get to win because of that pesky unfair advantage.....but that's OK because Anne is also really "nice", right?! Jesus fucking christ.

I also think the fact that Anne is now gatekeeping who is allowed to identify as a trans woman and therefore enter the competition pretty much sums up the entitled attitude of many TRAs. As long as they get to do whatever they want, fuck everyone else, especially the annoying biological women.

As a PP said, we've been told that anything other than total acceptance is transphobic - so by excluding trans women that haven't had the op, that means that you're now a TERF Anne. Oh dear.

I disagree.

Women at school/ club level still deserve to be able to compete on a level playing field. They deserve to be safe in their sports (eg rugby). They deserve to have their achievements noted and celebrated. No woman should be pushed out of a team or shoved down the medal table because a male-bodied person with a biological advantage 'feels' like a woman.

Safety and fairness over inclusion every single time.

If men are going to take women's sport and records, then let's at least enjoy seeing the elite men identify in and take those medals as the best of the best. There's no difference whatsoever between their taking the medals and glory and any other male athlete doing so.

Sorry I wasn't being clear, I was talking about wheelchair basket ball and able bodied athletes, the teams should still be segregated on sex. Although I seem to remember murder ball is mixed sex.

With a wheelchair team sport there might not be enough wheelchair users in a school to form a team and even if there are not all wheelchair uses want to play basket ball in that case I think the use of a wheelchair levels things to a certain extent.
