A Canadian man has entered a power lifting competition. He smashed the record.

The trans 'woman' who was the former record holder is not happy about it.

Trans-Woman's Powerlifting Record Broken By Man to Prove a Point. New World Record.

A Canadian powerlifter, Avi Silverberg, has set a new record in a women’s competition, breaking the previous record set by a trans athlete, Anne Andres. Silv...

So Anne goes to all these competitions and is all like "ooh I like your hair, yeah thanks, I did win by a lot didn't I, just my lucky day I guess, better luck next time, you tried really hard too bad" and thinks that is fine because it's nice. It doesn't seem nice to me. Nice would be recognising they had a huge unfair advantage beacause science whatever, and then doing something about it.

Mykingdomforanap · 05/04/2023 07:17

I think Avi might be nicer to the women, Anne, you know by maintaining a professional coaching role for 10 years and risking his reputation with this stunt.

Sorry I wasn't being clear, I was talking about wheelchair basket ball and able bodied athletes, the teams should still be segregated on sex. Although I seem to remember murder ball is mixed sex.

With a wheelchair team sport there might not be enough wheelchair users in a school to form a team and even if there are not all wheelchair uses want to play basket ball in that case I think the use of a wheelchair levels things to a certain extent.

I think that actually in that case the wheelchair doesn't just level the playing field but if anything gives the regular wheelchair users an advantage. Whereas I cant think of an equivalent for men/women

Anne transition 20 yrs ago and is fully transitioned* - according to Anne.

Just wondering about about

  • age of competitors
  • ability to substantially lengthen your competitive career
  • weight you can lift as a ‘senior’ lifter

Parallels with the NZ lifter.

Avi - thank you. & don’t let anyone tell you you’re not beautiful!

Anne made a video gloating about how weak and useless women lifters are, doesn’t sound like a very nice chap to me. Avi on the other hand, made his point with class!

What?
And Anne claims to "be nice"??

Noicant · 05/04/2023 09:59

I do wonder what would happen if women just stopped competing, let the men have it. A podium full of men at womens sporting competitions. It’s shit, women train for years for this stuff but if I was in competition I think I would willingly team up with other women to just not play. just to point out the utter stupidity of it.

ArcaneWireless · 05/04/2023 12:40

I think I would find Avi to be very nice indeed.

I also think he is not the one who exhibits malicious intent.

viques · 05/04/2023 12:47

If Anne is so frustrated at the lack of competition then he could always go back to competing as a genuine man. There you go Anne, my “controversial thought “ for the day. Frankly my dear, it isn’t up to a man to tell women how they should be competing.

Helleofabore · 05/04/2023 12:53

Anne, the supposedly, yet is self-described as such, nice weightlift did post that video lamenting how women were just not trying hard enough.

Yet, is complaining that a woman who is a woman just as Anne is, smashed the record that Anne set being such an elite athletes that Anne is.

You actually could not have scripted it better. Yet, I do hope that Avi has a way to unset that record.

LittleEsme · 05/04/2023 12:55

Chicken.

Roost.

Try harder, ANNE.

@sashh
I think you might be thinking of this:
Spanish basketball team who pretended to be disabled to win Paralympic gold.

"At one point during the first game of the tournament, when they were leading China by 30 points, Ribagorda claimed the coach told the players: 'Lads, move down a gear or they’ll figure out you’re not disabled.'"

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/othersports/article-2459172/Spanish-basketball-team-pretended-disabled-win-Paralympic-gold-guilty-fraud.html

But of course no one would ever abuse self ID, that's different...........

Spain basketball team pretended to be disabled to win Paralympic gold

The former head of the Spanish Federation for Mentally Handicapped Sports, Fernando Martin Vicente, has been found guilty of fraud over the scandal at the Sydney Olympics.

It's already happened.

Caster Semenya, Francine Niyonsaba and Margaret Wambui, took all the medals in the women's 800m race at the Rio 2016 Olympics, despite all having XY chromosomes, internal testes and male levels of testosterone.

@lechiffre55

That's it, sorry Canada, it was Spain.
