IcakethereforeIam · 29/03/2023 13:54

I think his comment at the end is a bit harsh #notallfeminists

Yeah I was totally on board until then. He does acknowledge the ones of us being silenced though earlier on.

BellaAmorosa · 29/03/2023 14:10

Nail on head.

And being an American, that probably is an accurate reflection of what he sees from online feminists and mainstream feminist groupings. Another word we have to take back.

Jarnsaxa · 29/03/2023 14:14

I took it that he was referring to the ones we call handmaidens here at the end.

Yes, me too.

BonfireLady · 29/03/2023 16:58

Great video. Thank you for posting.
Yes, an interesting viewpoint on the "capture of feminism". We've heard plenty of examples on this board of women's groups being infiltrated and then taken over by discussing transgender issues, so I guess he has a point.

And we've also seen what can happen when women's groups take a stand that it's about the experiences of biological women - KJK in Australia and NZ being a case in point.

Apologies if it's already been covered elsewhere but does anyone know what KJK meant in the Australian footage where she says "I'm not a feminist"? I couldn't work that out but is it related to this? E.g. is she distancing herself from the captured side of feminism?

Turnipworkharder · 29/03/2023 17:04

@BonfireLady
I'm no expert but I heard Kellie say

' apparently I can't be a feminist because I wear make up and I'm a stay at home
Mother '

So possibly other Women have made these comments, but I'm not really sure where it originates from.

Ah OK. So possibly a comment under stress. If that's her under stress, given everything that was being heckled at her at the time, that's pretty amazing.
And by that I mean that she said something that sounded unexpected but didn't qualify it at the time. That's a very easy one to qualify if asked afterwards.

BellaAmorosa · 29/03/2023 18:14

@BonfireLady

I think KJK wants to distance herself from the forMENinists (lib fems and actual men) and those socialist feminists who can't bring themselves to put women ahead of party allegiance, or who think that SAHMs are letting the side down. (Of course #NotAllSocFems, #NotAllLibFems.)
I think that she is a feminist in reality because she is fighting for the rights of all women but I respect her desire not to be labelled as such. And quite frankly, it might be a smart move to swerve all that mess - having to explain I'm not that sort of feminist, I'm this sort of feminist...no, not that one there, this one here would muddy the message. She's a women's rights activist, according to her. So that's what I call her.

BonfireLady · 29/03/2023 18:40

@BellaAmorosa all makes sense. Thank you.

@Jarnsaxa hope I didn't derail your post. It was an interesting point to consider. But the main point being: what a great video. I shall look out for more from this guy. It's great to see this kind of commentary being shared. Thank you for posting!

Jarnsaxa · 29/03/2023 18:59

Oh no you're fine! Chat about whatever you wan it's interesting and I'm supposed to be at work anyway!

I did the same thing about 15 yrs ago. I had called myself a feminist for decades but when the internet came into my life before Facebook and Twitter I joined many feminist forums and message-boards. As I exposed parts of my life I found myself increasingly being jeered at and mocked and criticised by women telling me I wasn't a good enough feminist, or not a proper feminist, or I was a faux feminist or a fake feminist etc.

So I totally understand why KJK doesn't want that label, because the same thing probably happened to her. Do not give yourself any labels then people cannot hold you to their particular definition of that word.

Yeah, he was doing well. Then that and I'm oh fuck off! I mean I know what he meant but it was just so ugggggh! Inducing!

IcakethereforeIam · 30/03/2023 00:24

I think it rankles because it's too like the comments we get like 'feminists said women were the same as men' or 'Well, we can't keep women out of men only bars'. However, as pp have said he's looking at this from an American perspective.

It's a different kettle of fish from Terf Island and, specifically, from this space. Any GC people who haven't found a like minded community will be feeling very isolated. After NZ, I would have really despaired without MN. I've said this place saved my sanity, I was reminded why at the weekend.

Boiledbeetle · 30/03/2023 00:26

I'd have been screaming outside of my head by now, instead of just internally! without this board!

EndlessTea · 30/03/2023 00:31

I feel that the closing comment undermined the rest of it and makes me wonder if he is a ‘sneaky male’. Very good at acting like he really understands, but ends up doing what he accused the other men of.

IcakethereforeIam · 30/03/2023 00:33

'Sneaky male' should definitely become a thing, it's such a good shortcut/metaphor.

Boiledbeetle · 30/03/2023 00:42

There was another line earlier on as well that I had given him the benefit of the doubt over but now....

I can't remember which bit it was but it was about women losing out when you get rid of gender as men 'naturally dominate'.... I can't be assessed to go back and check though if that was actually what he said.

Boiledbeetle · 30/03/2023 00:43

Or arsed even

BellaAmorosa · 30/03/2023 00:46

I understood "men naturally dominate" as "men will dominate the categories". In other words people will nominate/vote for men over women.

IcakethereforeIam · 30/03/2023 00:48

Yes,, I remember something like that.
