Apologies if posted before. I couldn't see a post on it. Yesterday the Clinical Advisory Network on sex and Gender CAN-SG which I am involved in published an open letter to NHS chiefs in the UK stressing the reasons why the word woman should be retained in NHS campaigns and literature.
The letter is here can-sg.org/2023/02/23/open-letter-to-nhs-chiefs-the-importance-of-the-word-woman/ if anyone wants to see it

Some sanity at last!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 24/02/2023 17:37

What a brilliant letter.
Thank you 2Rebecca for posting it and being part of it. The determination of so many powerful individuals to turn the NHS into an organisation that's a hostile and actually dangerous environment for woman and girls must be challenged.

Wow, this stuff makes my blood boil!

"This studious avoidance of reference to women, even in relation to getting pregnant, leads to healthcare content that is nonsensical to the public. For example, “If you are under 40 and have regular sex without using contraception, there is an 8 in 10 chance you will get pregnant within 1 year” by definition includes men in the potential for pregnancy."

Very timely and necessary.

Thanks OP.

I particularly noticed that my smear test reminder this week did use the word woman.
I was pleased to see it.

Fabulous letter.

I particularly liked the section about how using person, rather than woman, means that the statistics are nonsense.
