TW in golf club has been given 'ladies privileges'

A TW in a skirt has joined one of the local golf clubs. He's applied for ladies privileges and has been permitted by the committee to use the women's loos and changing room. Suddenly all the complacent 'Be kind' middle class rural and retired folk who thought it would never happen here are starting to wake up.

Tell the club that the government have recently clarified that same sex spaces are protected in law and the club has the legal right to protect their female clients and insist this biological male uses the mens toilets.

Tell them you will not feel safe taking your customer there otherwise.

EdithStourton · 11/02/2023 09:46

'Be kind' rural types can get very arsey very quickly.

Speaking as a 'be kind' rural type, who knows a ram is a ram without seeing his bollocks, I suspect this will get very interesting very quickly.

This is why I hate the "there are so few [men who want to violate women's boundaries and spaces], it's not worth worrying about".

There might only be one at this golf club, but he will impact every single woman.

It's the same as prisons. "Oh, there's only 6, don't worry*". How many hundreds or thousands of women do those 6 men impact?

*Given how shit the record keeping is we can't even know the numbers

pattihews · 11/02/2023 09:50

Hell would freeze over before I join any golf club!

But I'm hearing about it on the local grapevine and if the gossip has reached me then it's everywhere. The women don't like it. I'd be amazed if any of the men did. I'm not in England, otherwise I'd say that Middle England is beginning to wake up and it doesn't like what it sees.

I hope those that don’t like it feel able to speak up to the club committee highlighting their concerns and take their custom elsewhere if the matter is not resolved.

Toseland · 11/02/2023 09:55

I once heard that the name Golf stood for 'Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden' and women were not allowed to play for years, yet along comes this guy and is instantly allowed to use the women's facilities!

mrshoho · 11/02/2023 09:57

I imagine as soon as the TW starts exposing his dick the club will have a lot of angry patrons. Why should women have to witness what I consider indecent exposure in the first place? This just shows again that there is no protection given to women and girls in this gender ideology.

Tell them it is the principle not the person

This individual may be gracious and kind but the facts are that as a group transwomen are no different when it comes to other males when it comes to sex crimes.

They're statistically more likely to be an offender.

CrotchetyQuaver · 11/02/2023 10:09

This is interesting. I was the only non golfer in my family but remember how misogynistic it seemed up at the golf club. I do hope they take notice of the women and their concerns. The individual needs their own space, could they use disabled facilities instead?

ErrolTheDragon · 11/02/2023 10:10

It would be interesting to know the sex ratio on that committee.

SecondRow · 11/02/2023 10:10

Also, the sporting side. Male upper body strength, different centre of gravity etc all bound to make for large performance difference in golf. Surely ousting the local queen bee from the top of the league table ( or whatever - I don't play golf 🤔) will drive the facts home to the committee?

zanahoria · 11/02/2023 10:14

"They're statistically more likely to be an offender"

that appears to be the case

Possibly skewed by all the chancers although under the rules of self ID they count too. Who knows?

On practical terms, if I were making an argument to someone who was in two minds I would stick to the simple "no different" line. It is more straight forward and less vulnerable to the transphobia retort.

It is always worth mentioning it is the principle not the person.

If the nicest, meekest transwomen in the world is admitted, it creates a precedent and if more are admitted then by the laws of probability, somewhere there will be a predator.

You don’t get to hand over disabled facilities to TW just because women want safe spaces.
Disabled people fought long and hard for their basic rights and facilities, so we could participate in society.
Trans people can use their correct sex facilities or gender neutral ADDITIONAL spaces - just as TW can’t have female spaces, neither TW/TM nor anyone else not disabled can appropriate the disabled facilities.

CosyBobbleHat · 11/02/2023 10:29

What are the privileges they now can have, apart from using the female rooms?

2bazookas · 11/02/2023 10:29

The lady members of that club should immediately apply for use of the gents facilities, and occupy it en masse. When you all descend on the gents , be as embarrassing as you like, make them feel really uncomfortable.

CosyBobbleHat · 11/02/2023 10:31

Definitely. I would be straight in there to use their loo. And then join another club immediately 🙂

In theory, the Committee should be representative of the wider club membership.

I hope this individual isn’t also playing off the Ladies tees.

Yes! Turn up in awful, stereotypical men's golf clothes and sign up to use the mens facilities!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 11/02/2023 10:40

Hopefully this will reach the wider public - the Daily Mail are very keen on running stories like this - photos and all.

Middle England has definitely woken up. Last time I was in my village pub, there was a long discussion about gender ideology. I was amazed at how on top of the subject people were. There were middle-aged men who I would have previously thought would be the type to find the whole thing funny who were sounding like they’d been radical feminists for their whole lives.

CosyBobbleHat · 11/02/2023 10:29

I've no idea. I'm not a member of this golf club or any other. I've been given the information by someone who is, but isn't themselves very clear what privileges other than use of women's facilities, they have been offered. If there are female golfers around perhaps they have suggestions of what their own club's 'ladies privileges' involve? I imagine that a man playing off the ladies' tee (which seems to be a little nearer the hole than the men's tee) would go down badly.

I am surprised, I would have expected a golf club to be the last to act as they have.

I’m not remotely surprised. Golf clubs have a long history of prioritising men, even to the point of excluding women until they were forced to change. Why wouldn’t they prioritise a man when given the chance to do so, especially when you add in the special bonus of thinking themselves very progressive while they shaft women again?

BruceAndNosh · 11/02/2023 11:08

I'm a golfer. "Just taking your custom elsewhere" isn't easy if you belong to a Member owned Club.
There are waiting lists to join the decent Clubs around here.
Although interestingly, the men's waiting list is much longer than the women's...
