TW in golf club has been given 'ladies privileges'

A TW in a skirt has joined one of the local golf clubs. He's applied for ladies privileges and has been permitted by the committee to use the women's loos and changing room. Suddenly all the complacent 'Be kind' middle class rural and retired folk who thought it would never happen here are starting to wake up.

Enjoying the fresh air on this thread re language and I'm joining to see how long it is allowed to stay ...

WarningToTheCurious · 11/02/2023 11:54

Maybe once the TW realises that the “ladies’ privileges” are often inferior to the men’s, they’ll decide that playing on a Saturday morning is worth more than inserting themselves into female spaces.

BarryK3nt · 11/02/2023 11:59

The men won’t like it when he starts playing off the ladies’ tee.

In theory, the Committee should be representative of the wider club membership.

Yes - but chances are that means women are a minority. Issues that impact womens rights being decided by men isn't good.

GCAcademic · 11/02/2023 12:38

Although interestingly, the men's waiting list is much longer than the women's...

Wait till Nick and Simon work out that they can get their membership faster by identifying as laydees.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 11/02/2023 12:46

Do women still pay less and have restricted playing times compared to men, or was that outlawed in the name of equality?

Tell them it is the principle not the person

This individual may be gracious and kind but the facts are that as a group transwomen are no different when it comes to other males when it comes to sex crimes.

There's nothing gracious or kind about men violating women's boundaries. It's disrespectful at best, predatory at worst.

PaterPower · 11/02/2023 12:51

If they’re peaking now, wait until this new member (pun intended) starts sweeping the board on ladies competitions.

Yes, I understand that.

But in the more traditional clubs the women will have their own section, run by its own committee and chaired by the Ladies Captain, who make recommendations (especially on membership) to the overall committee.

If it’s the overall committee that has given approval then the Ladies committee needs to point out that it is the one responsible for running the women’s section and make its members views known.

ZeldaFighter · 11/02/2023 13:38

Why is it always only ever about the trans woman? All the other women in the club, the staff, the cleaners, etc presumably use at least the ladies toilet. Why are the views of all these women, who also use/share the facilities, never taken into account? What about the impact on them?

I would approach the issue on a "door open" basis. Depending on what criteria the committee used to give access, point out how easy that would be for unscrupulous, non-trans men to abuse.

I thought golf membership across the country was dwindling, golf clubs are closing down and amalgamating.
If this decision was not reversed I’d be leaving and be telling them exactly why.

If he was gracious and kind he wouldn’t want to get changed in front of non-consenting women.

This person is doing this for the thrill of exerting power over women and getting attention, and for no other reason.

I hope all the women leave the golf club and tell its owners why.

nilsmousehammer · 11/02/2023 14:34

How did that old saying go? "Do what you like with another member's wife, but never touch his car, his dog or his clubs".

As Jacqueline says above: There's nothing gracious or kind about men violating women's boundaries. It's disrespectful at best, predatory at worst.

Find this male person alternatives to the male toilets and changing rooms if they are unhappy about their privacy, dignity or feelings there. These should not include the women's facilities, as women's privacy, dignity and feelings are no less important, and they are not attending the club in order to be props in someone else's inner life.

BruceAndNosh · 11/02/2023 14:36

A man playing all their qualifying competitions from the ladies tees would be given a lower golf handicap than if he played from the men's tees.

At my Club we pay the same and have equal playing rights. Clubs have to offer this but at some clubs the women have decided to relinquish playing rights (eg no Saturday mornings) in return for lower fees

MiaMoor · 11/02/2023 14:49

A Man Friday approach would work well in this situation I suspect.

In some places maybe. Where I work, the club has 750 members and 200 on the waiting list. The club where I am a member has a waiting list for all types of memberships. Might not be so easy to vote with your feet.

Youdoyoubabe · 11/02/2023 15:24

Mos important ladies privileges in a golf club are being able to hit from the ladies tee which is nearer the hole and therefore makes the shot easier. Since this person grew up as a male they will have had more testosterone than most women so will likely be able to hit the ball harder and so further. Hitting from the ladies tee will give them an advantage whether they play in the men’s or women’s league.

Melroses · 11/02/2023 15:32

Maybe they need to point out to some of the men languishing on the waiting list that it would be quicker to identify as a woman?

I'm not in England, otherwise I'd say that Middle England is beginning to wake up and it doesn't like what it sees.

Middle England has definitely woken up. Last time I was in my village pub, there was a long discussion about gender ideology. I was amazed at how on top of the subject people were. There were middle-aged men who I would have previously thought would be the type to find the whole thing funny who were sounding like they’d been radical feminists for their whole lives.

Good! 😂

WarningToTheCurious · 11/02/2023 16:47

Hitting from the ladies tee will give them an advantage whether they play in the men’s or women’s league.

Male advantage gives 16-22% more clubhead speed.
