Not sure if this has been highlighted on another thread. The consultation on the new draft guidance is open for 4 weeks till the 10th March 2023.

UWhatNow · 09/02/2023 20:34

Not much of a window for consultation! Interesting. Thanks for sharing - I will respond.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 09/02/2023 20:36

Definitely worth responding

Pootleplum · 09/02/2023 20:37

I just flagged this on the thread about the Scottish prison service - I really think we need to mobilise on this

ClaphamSouth · 09/02/2023 21:12

Excellent! Thank you for sharing Flowers

Potatomashed · 09/02/2023 21:13

Bump

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 09/02/2023 21:18

Did we collectively will this into being?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 09/02/2023 21:37

Very quick scan of the draft

it seems very circular eg media should consider the name & pronouns used in court. But as we know the judiciary has been heavily stonewalled so we’re still in the land of falsehoods

how about media should report both the sex and the gender identity of the person in court

Redshoeblueshoe · 09/02/2023 21:39

Thanks for this

DontAskIDontKnow · 09/02/2023 22:57

Responded, thanks

Bumping this

Another example of what the shitty current guidelines lead to

Sorry that link looks super dodgy! Here it is again

nothingcomestonothing · 10/02/2023 09:31

Done!

OrangeToothbrush · 10/02/2023 09:40

Yes Clymene I was talking about that on another thread. That story was not open to comments and they barely promoted it on social media so it only had a small selection of protesters who noticed. A basic google of the first name apparently reveals it is a traditional male name too.

It can't be allowed to stand as a woman's crime. I also wonder if that is one reason the person escaped a jail sentence, too much potential for publicity?

Will take a good look at this consultation OP as this kind of reporting should not be above scrutiny. I think a complaint to the paper itself would just be ignored.

Clymene · 10/02/2023 08:03

That article looks really out of date now, doesn’t it? It’s as if time has sped up due to Isla Bryson’s pink leggings.

the big papers and the general public are now streets ahead of that judiciary bench book thingy and the llocal papers who are studiously sticking to IPSO.

I wonder if it’s just a ‘can’t afford the legal fees/fines’ situation? I bet local journalists must be as sick of the gaslighting as the rest of us.

OrangeToothbrush · 10/02/2023 11:12

Sorry to derail again but have noticed today a lot more pushback on Twitter about that story now.

The Echo has now snuck in an amend (without flagging up the change as the nationals do), so a quote from the judge tucked away at the bottom now includes mention of transition. That certainly was NOT there yesterday.

So the journo kept that out for what reason originally?

It’s a bloody long way down!

(and a direct quote from the judge)

Names used online when trading child sex abuse images were ‘Billy’ and ‘Leah’.

It was edited at 9.21 - so inbetween the time I clicked on the link, read it, wrote my comment and clicked ‘post’.

I feel personally gaslit! (Sort of joking)

How is this person not in prison, after breaching their bail conditions, by continuing to offend in the same, horrible way? It's an affront to all ordinary people.

I personally don't care about their childhood, this person is an adult now and getting their thrills from CSE and obviously isn't bothered about stopping it.

HarmonicAnalysis · 10/02/2023 12:33

Good to see this - thank you for flagging it, @Justme56 .

TheBiologyStupid · 10/02/2023 17:03

Thanks for sharing, Justme - I'll complete the consultation over the weekend.

MilkandKids · 10/02/2023 17:17

Can anyone help with answering the first two Qs from a gender critical perspective? The wording is really confusing.

CryInToYourCornflakesNicola · 16/02/2023 08:55

Bumping and asking for help.
Have you all put real name and address?

MarkWithaC · 16/02/2023 09:23

Done it; thanks for flagging this up, OP. My main issue was with the court reporting section, specifically that the media should 'consider' the way that the defendant is identified in court. I agree with a pp that the media must report both the gender identity and the sex of the person in court, and make a clear distinction between the two, and I've said that. I used the Ketan Shende report as an illustration.
