Rape Crisis Scotland on Isla Bryson

ArabellaScott · 25/01/2023 13:13

'Sandy Brindley, chief executive of Rape Crisis Scotland, believes it is the first time a trans woman has been convicted of raping women in Scotland.

She said: "If someone has been convicted of a serious sexual offence they should not be held with the general female population."'
...

'Clearly, Bryson cannot be held in segregation - solitary confinement - forever. It would breach her human rights.

At some point she will mix and be housed with other prisoners. One commentator with extensive knowledge of Scotland's jails said the prison service "is in a very difficult position facing very difficult choices."'

BBC article -

Tweet:

'Rape is an extremely serious offence - in deciding where to place any convicted sex offender, the priority must be the safety of other women prisoners. It is not appropriate for someone convicted of any serious sexual offence to be placed within the general female population.'

You have to wonder who thought to put Paulette up to do media. My favourite theory is someone who's covert GC and sick to death of it 😃

GC and sick to death of it

That could cover quite a lot of women, I'm thinking.

I can’t believe it’s 2023, and this bullshit is going on. If someone had told me this 20 years ago, I’d have thought they were insane. It’s such a fucking insult to actual women, they just don’t give a shit, do they? 🤬

Yes but (pronoun) is a 6’5 male predator. This isn’t just about women being attacked, it’s also about being frightened about being around violent males. We’re allowed our own spaces for privacy, dignity and to prevent retraumatisation not just for safety. These peeps need to go to their own prisons and leave women alone.

This doesn't sound right...

Mridul Wadwha if Edinburgh Rape Crisis will be pissed off because (pronoun) was linked to Scottish Trans Alliance who helped write the rule book on how to get violent males into women’s prisons. Maybe Mridul should put out a statement about why female prisoners wouldn’t like to be locked up with rapists. Outrageous!!

GreenSunfish · 27/01/2023 21:15

of not if!!

The Rape Crisis woman lost me when referring to the rapist as “her”. And then mentioning the human rights of aforementioned rapist.

This is a charity set up to support women who have been raped, or men who have committed rape? Because I’m not very sure from the comments made by its spokesperson.

Fucksake 🤬

Thanks for the tweet re resignation from SWA but was more than a little disheartened to read that trans women have been included in their work (ie in refuges?) for years.

Worth re-reading the statement from Rape Crisis Scotland and others that says they have been including self identifying trans for years.

" ... Violence Against Women (VAW) services in Scotland already operate on the basis of self-ID. Individuals are not required to provide their birth certificates to access services, something that would be hugely harmful. Instead, services have robust safeguarding processes that allow for individuals to be excluded where there are legitimate concerns. Rape crisis services in Scotland have been providing trans inclusive services for 15 years without incident. ... "

Also this rather staggering wrong interpretation of gender reassignment as a protected characteristic:

" ... Specifically, the Equality Act has allowed for protection from discrimination of trans people on the basis of self-identification since its passage into law in 2010. This was the case before the Gender Recognition Reform Bill and will be the case after. ... "

So is it any wonder that Edinburgh RCC appointed a trans woman even though the post was advertised under the SSE clause of the EA, if these are the guidelines of the coordinating group of RCCs in Scotland?

It’s also offensive to suggest, with clear problems on the police and probation services and over crowding in pretty much all prisons that women should be placated with ‘risk assessments’
Indeed. And what is the risk assessment? Is it the risk to the trans identifying prisoner? Or the risk to the female inmates?
Are there any transmen in male prisons? If so, are they risk assessed or is the risk assessment the risk to them? And are they kept in solitary?

@Judashascomeintosomemoney
I don’t know how to link,
But the risk assessment is regarding the risk TO the offender.
NOT the risk from the offender to the other inmates
(unless he attacks them I guess, but perhaps not even that would enter into the super-robust risk assessment in any other way than if he attacks them PROPERLY the other inmates still pose no risk to the offender, so it is the best place for him)

This thread has been focused on Sandy Brindley and her statement but I would love to know if Rape Crisis Edinburgh or it’s CEO, Mridhul Wadhwa, has made a statement on the subject.

Or is it too difficult for them to address given the similar vulnerabilities of women imprisoned and women seeking help after rape?

Also, if an offender identifies as a woman - isn’t the risk assessment they undergo the female version?

So a self-identified TW convicted rapist would be assessed according the the female version of a risk assessment, which would not even contain issues such as potential for rape or male strength, etc. as the prison service would be assessing a “woman” as far as they are concerned.

Would such a risk assessment EVER flag a TW as too much of a risk to be incarcerated in a woman’s prison (as it would not even consider any biological male issues)?

Horrific.

Further information about the dangerous infringement on women those claiming they want to transition pose.

" ... Shocked Ayrshire College students claim they were asked to strip off for beauty classes in front of rapist Isa Bryson.

Sickened beauty classmates are demanding answers from college bosses after transgender Bryson was convicted on Wednesday of brutal attacks while living as a man.

Former students from the Kilwinning campus who trained with the 31-year-old sex attacker have detailed how they got naked for spray tan sessions in front of sick Bryson while she was awaiting trial.

Ayrshire College bosses have denied all knowledge of Bryson's rape charges

Rachel Ferguson, 21, said: “It really scares me to look back and realise she was watching me with no clothes on after being charged with this. It makes me feel physically sick and violated. We should have known about these charges. It’s not right that we didn’t know.”

Bryson first appeared in the dock more than three years ago for crimes committed in Clydebank and Glasgow in 2016 and 2019, while known as Adam Graham. Victims in the case told jurors at the High Court in Glasgow how they asked “muscular” Graham to stop before he forced himself upon them.

Students at Ayrshire College’s Kilwinning Campus say they worked alongside Bryson, then known to them as Annie, in 2021. They described her as “overpowering” and “disruptive”, saying classmates were repeatedly branded homophobic before Bryson was finally asked to leave the course. ... "
