Is anyone listening? Nicky, the actress and campaigner comes across really well.

OP posts:
WarningToTheCurious · 20/01/2023 12:30

Yes - I was thinking this too.

The explanations of NB and trans will confuse the shit out of anyone that hasn’t come across this before.

2023username · 20/01/2023 12:34

I’m listening too but cant help roll my eyes at lots of it - lots of word salad.

2023username · 20/01/2023 12:35

The NB person sounds quite tedious - extremely navel gazing

2023username · 20/01/2023 12:36

Jesus Christ did Sam Smith really just say he was part woman because he puts on weight? The more these people reveal the more astounded I am

2023username · 20/01/2023 12:39

Nicky is great

whereisthis · 20/01/2023 12:42

It’s painfully sad. That young lesbian, absolutely classic young lesbian, not girly, groomed by tik tok and social contagion to reject her sex. Because this sexist, lesbo phobic ideology told her being a woman is being girly, girly.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 20/01/2023 12:42

At work so no, but I like Antisocial so looking forward to listening.

WarningToTheCurious · 20/01/2023 12:44

I’m confused about NB people not being able to get married?

Oh, and Sam Smith is apparently contributing to gender stereotypes because of the way that Sam describes Samself. Oh the irony!

TeenDivided · 20/01/2023 12:46

I got stressed so had to turn it off.

I wish someone had pointed out to the non-binary female that categories had always been de facto sex based and so everyone was included before.
I suspect some deal had been done in advance on the parameters of the discussion so as not to 'go there'.

2023username · 20/01/2023 12:49

Charlie singing the end of her/their sentences is driving me mad, am also switching off now, enough is enough

KirstenBlest · 20/01/2023 12:51

I switched it off.

JustKeepSlimming · 20/01/2023 12:51

Yeah, Charlie is coming across as a bit airy fairly to me, with the singing. Bit annoying.

SilverHydrangea · 20/01/2023 12:53

Actually I think both Nicky and Charlie are both coming accross well even if I don't agree with everything being said.

CriticalCondition · 20/01/2023 12:53

Charlie sounds like a teenager. How old is they?

Madcats · 20/01/2023 12:54

I have friends whose NB adult child (with a penis) married a NB adult (with a cervix). Both wore suits and the bearded one wore flowers in their (blue) hair.

It was quite a big wedding/reception.

Ellpeas · 20/01/2023 12:54

Re the Sam Smith 'feminine curves' - someone responded on Twitter that what he had was 'Chippy t!ts'

MTCoffeePot · 20/01/2023 12:55

Like Kirsten, I just turned to another station - so much self-indulgence and so little common sense.

Well quite. Nobody cares about your gender when conducting a marriage or civil ceremony.

WarningToTheCurious · 20/01/2023 13:02

It’s worth listening to the last 5 minutes when they are summing up - Nicky addresses the elephant in the room by getting Victoria Derbyshire to clarify that women are disadvantaged by their sex, not their gender.

KirstenBlest · 20/01/2023 13:02

I only caught a few seconds of it - Sam thingy Spaceman saying he was non-binary. I thought 'Can't I just like the song?' and switched off.

DarkDayforMN · 20/01/2023 13:05

when nonbinary people are being oppressed in a manner which cruelly prevents them from doing something or other, it usually means that some computer system or document is recording their sex.

(Although if 'something or other' involves clothes or haircuts, as it frequently does, it may just mean that no one has yet invented the outfit that can adequately signal to the world how special they are.)

WarningToTheCurious · 20/01/2023 13:21

I dunno. I think Sam Smith nailed specialness in that spangly silver jumpsuit.

CriticalCondition · 20/01/2023 13:23

That was a really frustrating ending. The whole sex matters issue was highlighted when Nicky said that there is a need for safeguarding in the music industry following MeToo. Victoria Darbyshire even corrected herself for using gender when she should have said sex. There was no time to ask the non-binary Charlie about how women could be protected if they can't be defined by their sex.

Are you confusing Sam Smith with Sam Fender?

WarningToTheCurious · 20/01/2023 13:27

Sam Ryder I think.
