Bookbinder removes JKR from Harry Potter novels

This person is removing the title pages (and unsurprisingly the copyright pages) from Harry Potter novels so that author attribution is removed in order to sell on for a (considerable) profit to those who 'need to feel safe'.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11622773/Bookbinder-23-removes-JK-Rowlings-Harry-Potter-novels-amid-furore-transphobia.html

As has been pointed out elsewhere, European copyright law includes the right for attribution i..e the right to be recognised as the author of a work.

(As a note for the 'Daily Fail!!!' shriekers, this is being reported on various sources but this is by far the most detailed).

Yes, I did catch sight of that headline.

Here's hoping that JKR asserts her rights as the author

UWhatNow · 11/01/2023 20:44

They can try, but they won’t erase the fact that JKR and Harry Potter are synonymous. As are the words vile misogyny and TRAs.

burnoutbabe · 11/01/2023 20:45

I mean yes, breach of copyright law but also how mad to pay this chap £140 when you could say get your mate to buy it for £10 and just rip out page 1!

Either way jkr gets their royalty as the original book has been bought so that's better than most copyright infringement cases.

PronounssheRa · 11/01/2023 20:46

Reselling at £140 a book. Fecking hell.

Whinge · 11/01/2023 20:47

If someone hates JK Rowling enough to want her name erased from the book she wrote, why does that person want to own or read the book? Confused

They must really really really love her work.

Like really love it.

Almost like she's talented and brilliant.

ReunitedThorns · 11/01/2023 20:50

Surely this is just a guy cashing in on people gullible enough to buy into (at £140 a pop) all the hatred?

burnoutbabe · 11/01/2023 20:53

Does say it takes 12 hours for each book to do so £10 an hour work. So not a huge return for the effort.

Crouton19 · 11/01/2023 20:54

I had been wondering how to make some cash out of this awful ideology, may as well seeing as so many others are. Not having the time to retrain as a surgeon perhaps I can follow this chap’s example and find a lucrative side hustle.

Tigger7654 · 11/01/2023 20:54

JK should undercut this guy and offer to send out copies with no copyright pages for 100 quid 🤣😆

Slightly different news but read that Hogwarts Legacy is the fastest selling game on Steam at the moment.

Despite TRA's having footstamping tantrums on Twitter, demanding that it be boycotted.

Slight tangent but I disagree with Philip Pullman on a good few things, but the last episode of His Dark Materials made me cry. I love his books and the TV adaptation.

This strange obsession of trans activists is really quite tragic. Deep down they will never forget Jo wrote those books. Just like deep down they know what sex they are.

gawditswindy · 11/01/2023 21:52

'Safe'?

Are they aware that in some parts of rural India girls have to go to the toilet in pairs so they don't get raped?

Fucking safe.

Delphinium20 · 11/01/2023 21:58

Well, if they can fool themselves that people can change sex by a cosmetic change, they can fool themselves JKRowling didn't write the book. Like a kid who puts his fingers in his ears.

They don't care. About any girls.

ScrollingLeaves · 11/01/2023 22:40

Ironically this is about a tra erasing someone’s existence.

The book is getting top and bottom surgery. Literally.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 11/01/2023 22:42

Christ, what an insufferable prick.

Joolsin · 11/01/2023 22:45

What a absolute tit.

Rainbowshit · 11/01/2023 23:13

This is beyond pathetic.

The great masses of the plain people, in this instance, have the intelligence to buy JKRs books unmutilated for the normal price.

TheWitchesAreBackInTown · 11/01/2023 23:39

Honestly, it's got to the point where I laugh at (some) HP fans' obsession with the books and the hatred they probably feel for themselves for liking them as it's written by a transphobic bigot. As JKR herself said, "Cope and seethe."

If you are really bored you can watch a video of this skilled rip off artists at work and see how long it takes to earn £140
