Mr Burke continues to insist that the Irish State are trampling him (a good Christian man) with their oppressive Queer[-positive] boots policies. He’s all set for making a martyr/political prisoner/prisoner of conscience of himself - the judge has offered to allow him home for the Christmas holidays as he’d not be able to break the orders against him, school not being in session. Mr Burke’s not having any of it, though - he’ll be leaving prison with a fawning apology & great big compensation payment or not all…
The original thread is here & there’s good explanation of not only his claims (it’s because I’m Christian! NO TO PRONOUNS!) but also relevant family background - & crucially, the fact he behaved appallingly beyond the matter he’s latched onto; & decided he could just ignore having been suspended.
It’s an interesting case, despite the person bringing it, because the clashes of trans rights & religious rights & the idea that all must be compelled to participate in a lie of their choice to satisfy the trans individual (itself a further clash of rights with most religions & with rights of some disabled people - I mean, not that anyone should ever have to lie, but thinking of categories equality law “privileges”) need exploring. This case makes for very watery sunlight, but hopefully will still serve to provoke thought. (Even if the thoughts include how obnoxious Burke is 🙄)
