Sam Brinton arrested again for stealing women's luggage

Joe Biden's former nuclear waste staffer has been pictured in a striking new mugshot after being arrested for stealing a woman's airport luggage.

Brinton was charged for the luggage theft earlier this year at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas that was captured on security footage.

They also face charges for luggage theft at Minneapolis airport. Brinton, who was appointed to their Department of Energy position in June, was fired on Monday.

The warrant revealed that Brinton had posted to Instagram on July 6, the same day of the theft.

'Thank you to @americannuclear for selling such a great shirt for me to wear on my flight today,' the post said.

'My professional society continues to grow and learn and I'm proud of them. Goodness how we have changed since my service as a chapter president and then on the National Board of Directors. #NuclearPride.'

The White House has repeatedly refused to comment on the scandal, claiming it is a non-political issue.

The Department of Energy has also tried to distance Biden from the issue. Brinton was appointed in June with much fanfare.

'Sam is also a well-known advocate for LGBTQ youth and helped to secure protections against the dangerous and discredited practice of conversion therapy in more than half of the country,' it said.

'They identify as gender-fluid and use the pronouns they, them, and theirs,' their bio reads.

On top of working in the Department of Energy, they also held seminars including a recent event on spanking. Brinton lives in Washington DC with their husband.

I hadn’t seen whether the first piece of luggage was also stolen from a woman?

Which, if so, might indicate he’s targeting women’s luggage because he’s getting a kick from the potential contents (rather than some uncontrollable urge to steal in general) in a ‘stealing knickers from the washing line’ kind of way.

The fact that he’s allegedly chosen to steal a case again, despite having been arrested at least once before (and with such negative consequences for his career), points to a very strong drive behind the behaviour. I’d be concerned about what other ‘kinks’ this guy is unable to stop indulging, and what that leaves him exposed to in terms of blackmail etc.

The first suitcase was also stolen from a woman and he claimed he had been using it for a month and put the clothes in drawers at the hotel he was staying in (although they weren't found).

This second charge is for a theft before the first arrest. I wonder if they'll find any more cases(!) they can pin on him in the archives.

The news reports are apparently tending to omit the "women's suitcases" detail, for whatever reason.

ApocalipstickNow · 16/12/2022 06:45

Presumably because there’s no pronoun badge on the suitcases?

People write their names on their luggage tags..? He was recorded on CCTV checking them and removing them before taking the case.

It was a joke.

georgarina · 16/12/2022 07:49

Sorry. That is the kind of comment people are making on other forums so hard to tell.

Both pieces of luggage were stolen from women. He was seen on cctv checking the tag on the case in Las Vegas and the one in Minneapolis had a floral print.

Vera Bradley suitcases are well known for their gender-neutral appearance!

Clymene · 16/12/2022 07:53

And I would get my house on these not being isolated incidents.

Hughsrunning · 16/12/2022 07:59

I don't want to think about what fetish underpins this behaviour. I'm trying not to think that it's worn clothes that he's after. It's a bit trophy garment...

Fififafa · 16/12/2022 08:07

Starts small, taking clothing from cases he thinks belong to women, but this kind of behaviour can quickly escalate to much worse when he needs an even bigger sexual thrill

Yep, I watched a case recently about a killer who started out looking through a woman's window, escalated to stealing and wearing her clothes and finally broke in and murdered her. This man probably started out with tamer behaviors as well.

Here’s the mugshot mentioned upthread, btw.

Bonus: a comment re: Sam Smith’s recent silver outfit posted on the Gay Men’s celeb gossip site Datalounge.

I had planned to post it on the Sam Smith thread but that was deleted before I got to it, so here will have to do instead: not implying that Smith is motivated by sexual fetishes btw, so don’t pretend I am, Monitors.

Was that Col. Russell Williams by any chance?

If so his backstory is awfully similar to many of the late transitioning males in the public eye (decorated military man, history of cross dressing etc)

Link shows lots of photos of Williams wearing stolen underwear so don’t click unless you have a strong stomach:

Vice article from 2017 (they seem to have forgotten how to identify males with paraphilias since this was published):

he looks like the only gay in the village

I can't help laughing to myself about the time that DH had to take my pink trolley case on a stag do to Amsterdam as all the kids were away on school trips and had the red, black and grey ones (I bought a colour coded one for each member of the family for ease of family ski trips and as usual I got stuck with the token magenta pink one). Imagine how upset he would have been to have found DHs post bender pants, stinky socks and minimal wash bag!

But even though I'm laughing, what a fucking wrong 'un!

picklemewalnuts · 16/12/2022 13:43

Those photos, that paraphilia... it's often the subject of jokes in films. I wonder whether the creators of those films and characters see it as a common but harmless funny, or a serious issue? Are they being aggressively disapproving with those humiliating portrayals? Or trivialising it?

That was an unfortunate cross post. I think it's the sort of gross seemingly harmless fetish that people laugh at.

But it's really not funny. This postman's escalation sounds absolutely terrifying for the women whose homes he invaded

Sam dressed for court in a suit.

If I was investigating this case I'd look for CCTV of Sam before boarding, to see if Sam has been targeting women and not just choosing luggage at random.

Bonkersworknonsense · 16/12/2022 15:14

And Brinton’s face - this is where we get by never wanting to hurt anyone’s feelings. Someone needed to sternly say to him “Sam, dude! You will never pass as a woman. Look in the mirror. You cannot be “gender fluid” because you are a man.” But no, he was indulged all the way into a good job, and applauded for it.

So dresses and skirts are just ‘playwear’ then? Oh… no…. Not a fetish .

Thelnebriati · 16/12/2022 15:22

Here's a pic for those who can't see the video.
(Even when they are both wearing a fairly conservative suit, you can tell etc.)

It makes me think that having the option to be masked in public sometimes works out conveniently for some people.

Yes it was 🤢 awful story.
